  1. I have fitted a Dacom intercom unit out of a Gazelle to a Bendix King radio in a Skyfox. Inter com between occupants is excellent, reception from other aircraft is good, but on transmit only sends the carrier but no voice. Does anyone out there have any ideas of the problem?

    Cheers, Robert.

  2. Bruce Avery a well known aviator in the Albury / Holbrook area past away 4th of November . Bruce was a capable aviator and offered assistance and encouragement to anyone he met . Bruce was involved in the aviation museum at the Holbrook Aero club as well as active member within the club. We will miss Bruces positive view of life and his genuine interest in all things aviation.RIP Bruce.

That's Sad. Doesn't seem very long ago I was sitting with him having a chat1

  3. Robmus on here had one last heard - he may have sold his. It looked very similar to that one and was HKS powered I think.

That Boorabee in the first post was mine and yes I flew it for hundreds of hours. When I purchased it was fitted with a 582 Rotax, and after many enjoyable hours I fitted a HKS 700, great move, went from about 17 ltrs/hr mixed 2 stroke fuel to 11-12 ltr/ hr 95 UL at same performance. Yes it is now in North Island of NZ with a very happy owner. The only problem is that I miss her terribly as she was such a delight to fly. No vices whatsoever. I am now stuck with a Jabiru 170 that I fitted a 912 100 hp Rotax too. Good aircraft but not as much fun!

  4. Yes! did that myself a couple of weeks ago. I actually swapped #4 cyl CHT and oil temp. Both read the same as before swapping, so I guess they're good.I also have a spare fitted in # 2 cyl .

hi recently i have noted that the oil temperature readings were getting to be too high in normal climbs. The eng is a 912 S. I dont think its actually getting over hot. So i decided to check the gauge and sensor.

I checked the sensor resistance to ground whilst the engine was cold and had a reading of 860 ohms at 25 deg C. With the wire disconnected.

I compared this value with 5 other 912 engines and they all were near to 1000 ohms.

This leads me to believe that my sensor is lower than average and therefor the gauge will read higher by about 10 degrees ( 10% of 100 ) the sensor drops resistance as it gets hotter so it can only go down a max of 1000 ohms. Hence 10 %

I also noted that my gauge was the only gauge to move off the stop when the master was switched on.

Now heres my question. A new sensor has been quoted at about $ 400. Yes thats $400 ..

The 912 by the way has 3 of these fitted they are oil and cht x 2 they are the same sensor.

2 questions .......... is there a sensor available at a cheaper price anywhere?

And i am considering removing the sensor and testing it in hot oil with a thermometer . Has anyone done a similar test and what was your experience?

By the way this is the eng that had the brass rocker bushes, its running sweetly since the overhaul, this temperature issue has been brewing for quite a while, long before the brass rocker issue.

I don't know who quoted you the $400? They are $200 or close to that!

  5. So got a place on the Surf Coast now and was down there the other day so paid a visit to Barwon Heads not much happening on the tarmac but guess there are a few aircraft in the hangers, anyone based there?Much happening at Lethbridge? Back down there Monday so might have to check it out.

Lethbridge generally quite busy with developments new hangars etc and two flying schools weather permitting.

  6. I think you will find that the rules differentiate the original builder and the second & subsequent owners .I remember when 19 happened and it was discussed what to do with 19 aircraft after the owner builder wanted to sell , it was suggested that you would have to burn the aircraft to stop anybody else using it !!

I have a 19 rego Boorabee that was fitted with a Rotax 582. I fitted a HKS 700 E and it was passed and approved by RAA with a W&B and photos. I have just lately fitted a Rotax 912 ULS to a 19 reg Jab 170C that has proved Quite successful. We'll see how we go with that when we change details with RAA?

    Regards Robert.

  7. Thanks for your advice guys. I might have a squizz around at some different schools and see what others will offer RA training within moorabbin. I've always been keen to fly a tecnam but it seems as though you have to drive out to horsham or stawell (in VIC) to fly one of those.

Lethbridge uses a Tecnam in the RAA school, and they are fussy with there maintenance.

    Cheers Robert.

  8. My Aircraft was grounded for 4 weeks. Didn't bother me greatly as most of the weather near me was not , apart from the odd day, compatable for flying. When my renewal came thru it was dated from the day it was done, Not the initial day 4 weeks earlier. So for that I personally didn't mind a lot. And I am still able to do my average of about 150 hrs a year. Although like others I agree it should never have happened.
