Yes, he stood for election. Any member can put their hand up. There is no mechanism for saying "we think he's a bit sus don't accept his nomination". The election spiel is written by the candidate, RAA does not go into the truth of the statement. Even if he did get on the Board, he is still only one of seven.
The system is fairer than when Ian (Admin) nominated and certain members conspired to delay his membership, so that it lapsed while nominations were open and Ian was denied the chance to stand. You can read about it on the forum, or PM Admin. This was years ago with RAAus Inc.
Hi FlyingVizsla, thank you for your reply. I’d like to provide you further details and reasons why it raises questions about the level of RAAus involvement, but it may offend some viewers...and possibly some offenders.

There's a familiar face in the July 2017 RAAus directors election spiel edition of the Sport Pilot magazine. It, along with a number of other items and events, again raises the question of the level of RAAus involvement in this debacle.

Does anyone know the story or details behind the below entry on page 9 of the online RAAus Accident and defect summaries?
Date Location State Aircraft Model Engine Model Summary
1/7/2019 Kelso QLD drifter dfifter ?
Seems quite a long time for no further details to have been added. There was word that some of the RAAus hierarchy had been up here not long after that date, and was wondering if it may have been related? Cheers

The “Aircraft Crashes of Northern Queensland and the Pacific during World War 2” FB page has still been getting content added/uploaded since then. The latest was about half an hour ago. I’ve messaged the page Admin to find out what the go is, and will let you know ASAP. Cheers
I’ve got a reply from the FB page Admin. You should able to select the “Join” tab, and then they just require you to answer the questions. Cheers

NSSS - That Facebook page says it is no longer being updated, from 11th November 2019.

Been following this story with interest.
It seems like some dreadful outcome for the poor young people who put their faith and dollars (their dollars? Our dollars?) into this Neel fella and his ‘business model’. At a time when we all agree we need to encourage more youngsters into aviation this kind of rort can’t be helping.
Hopefully this with help deter further abuses. We can all learn lessons from this, including RAA!
Alan
Don’t forget the equity fund that owns 50%, plus any other associates that may have been getting money channeled to them. It’d be interesting to see the level of involvement of RAAus in all this.

If you're on Facebook, have a look at the page "Aircraft Crashes of Northern Queensland 1942-1945". There's also a book by the same name, and they've got a few other books still in the works. These guys have done some amazing research on Australia's WW2 aviation history, helping families find out information about and what happened to their loved one's, along with getting memorials established at various crash sites across the north.
In case any World War 2 aviation history buffs are interested, the above mentioned Facebook page is now “Aircraft crashes of northern queensland and the pacific during world war 2”. They’ve been gathering some really great information and photos. Cheers. P.S. I’m not associated with them, I just have a passion for aviation history.

The last day of 2019. This is the page that you see when logging in to Raaus, the front door of the business if you like. The numbers have fluctuated widely over the year. If an instrument in our aircraft did this we would get it repaired.

Happy New year to all recreational flyers.
In the December 2019 RAAus E-News Issue 64, the RAAus CEO wrote "I’d also like to thank our staff who have done a wonderful job again this year as we work with our 11,000 strong community". Does anyone actually know what the exact RAAus membership total is? And has RAAus removed from the membership total, those people who are no longer financial/current members of RAAus, and also those that are deceased, either from accidents or natural causes? The mis-match of statistics, etc. plays a part in the credibility of the RAAus and its members. Cheers

The ATSB has released a preliminary animation of the accident via its new Whizz-Bang Media Studio... Heck, don't be surprised if the ATSB bases their investigations and report off of it.
-
To be fair to Soar, when you have a large number of students, you see a few flips, hard landings, aircraft stuck in drainage ditches and broken nose wheels.
Their aircraft stack ratio seems to nearly rival that of the WW2 Empire Air Training Scheme. “Tally Ho Chaps, we need to get you up “Training” before ol’Jerry decides to pull his money out of the equity fund”...

I went looking for the original report on this site, but couldn't find it.
It would help an awful lot if Thread titles could be edited to correct mistakes, and include the location, Aircraft and Date, and be easily searchable.
I also went looking for the Coroner's report and found it within a couple of minutes.
In this case you'll note that the Coroner flies recreational aircraft and also has a PPL.
Here's the report: https://www.courts.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/578010/nif-millard-r-20180723.pdf
Same Investigator and Coroner as the Young and Friend accident that occurred in February 2015. I personally don't believe that that accident was investigated to the level that it should have been. If it had, Mr Millard may still be alive. Cheers

The reality in this case is that there is no public interest in establishing the cause unlike any commercial aircraft crash, so little or no funding is allocated. The result is that all is eventually forgotten except for those close to the person. A sad but true indictment on our society.
If the aviation community wants to be respected and considered true aviators , then the level of public interest, low or not, shouldn't be used as an excuse for not investigating accidents and incidents correctly and thoroughly. Most cases seem to indicate an attitude of "Don't go looking too hard and chasing the real facts, in case you might find something you don't want to be found". Also, it doesn't cost a great deal to carry an effective investigation, so the availability of formal funding shouldn't really play a part either. If you can carry out basic troubleshooting, etc., you have the foundation skill set to carry out/play a part in an investigation. Long story short, it can be down to having the right Attitude and Approach. Cheers

If the RAA are the sole beneficiary of the trust that runs Airventure, it is very ignorant of them to say they "know nothing".....
They call it "Scapegoating". I'll bet you a 1x year RAAus membership, the RAAus management/board were more aware and involved, than what they are letting on. Plus, didn't the RAAus Chairman claim that he came up with the idea for Airventure? Fly Tornado, you posted a copy of the/his article back in March-ish this year. It's an insult to Paul Poberezny and the EAA. Also, wasn't there much more to the story of why Ausfly and Airventure Australia became separate events? Cheers

Any income would have to be listed in the financial statements wouldn't it? Any good beancounter would be able to pick it out in a heartbeat you'd think.
Didn't you Mob vote in a Director with "many years’ experience in corporate fraud as an investigative accountant"? Was wondering if management may have wanted someone to help reverse engineer some creative accounting solutions. Cheers

“with this in mind, this year we need to ignore these self-contradicting comments and not allow ourselves to be distracted by the noise.”An indication of the value placed on member’s views by MM.i.e. Stop criticising and just cop it as I know best.
(Extract from March SP comment)
“with this in mind, this year we need to ignore these self-contradicting comments and not allow ourselves to be distracted by the noise.”
Would the above spiel from MM correspond to a slight form of "Gaslighting"?
Are there any examples of the self-contradicting comments which can be posted here for review? RAAus management have put out a few in their day, and there's one from DiddyPilot that could be posted as an example.
Cheers

So did Tony figure out that he'd been working alongside some shonky characters?I was very impressed by the part he played; showed some class. As FV said, better to find out the real reason. -

There's a bloke by the name of Sarah Connor that'd outclass ol'Murgatroyd.

It seemed like Tony was sent as a Sacrificial Lamb to front the RRAT Senate Committee, to protect the 2 x Micks and other board members.
Hopefully Tony hasn’t had to cop on his own, the full brunt of any abuse or complaints, etc. that should be more so directed at the Micks, RAAus Ltd, and its consultants and associates.

There needs to be proper criminal investigations into all 3 of the above organisations and their associates, otherwise aviation in Australia has no credibility, progress and innovation will be stifled, and the crims will continue to run the aviation industry only for their own and their mates gains/advantage. Innocent lives have already been lost, and with the range of information/evidence already available, if investigations are done correctly, you should be able to get some of these clowns serving jail time or at least out of the aviation industry. CheersThe joke here is that CASA wants to give dysfunctional organisations like RAAus and GFA monopoly control of their respective aviation activities under Part 149.So much for aviation safety and "safe skies for all".
Some years ago GFA hired a professional sports administrator out of the UK. He lasted a few weeks beacsue he found out how it dysfunctioned and fled back home. The full story was never revealed to the members.
Time to end this farce.

They reckon History never repeats itself, but a lot of the contents of this thread rings true today to some very similar events and characters in the current Recreational Aviation scene.

Are you Mob sure the public release of the review of the RAAus Board is not a diversionary or misdirection type tactic? The action seems a bit too honest and transparent for RAAus, and doesn't match their standard 'Modus Operandi'. Cheers
Crash at Aratula..anyone heard anything yet?
in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Posted
Hi ausadvance, just wondering if the pilot or anyone else who witnessed this accident/incident, has reported it to RAAus? There’s no record/mention of it in the RAAus accident and defect summaries. Cheers
