  1. ...until one of them is your family.

Of course, at that point I would most likely be screaming for a complete ban but then again, as a society we should not be making laws affecting millions of people based on irrational and emotional responses of few affected individuals.

????So that makes it alright?? One is one too many.

You are not being rational - by that definition just about every activity should be banned because , if given freedom to do so , there will always be people who will abuse it one way or another.

  2. Yeah, you're right - nothing to see here, move along folks - just another guy exercising his fundamental, 2nd Amendment right - to be judge, jury and executioner, all rolled into one.I guess that Paddock guy would have been in for a right judicial ass-kicking, too, if he'd lived? Yeah, that must be really reassuring to a lot of people attending open-air concerts within range of multiple AR-15's.

The story is simply this. Mass murders by angry Americans, equipped with military-assault firearms, are increasing steadily in America, year on year.

    ...

Among 330 million people , statistically speaking there will always be an individual or two with some combination of genes that ultimately results in a tragedy like the one we just witnessed ( by it by guns, driving a truck into a crowd or a pilot flying a plane into a mountain ) Still , given that we are dealing here with 330 000 000 people and these tragedies being so rare , your chances of being hit by event like this are many orders of magnitude less than being killed in a car accident. There are about 3000 people accidentally drowning every year ( mostly kids ). About 40 000 people die each year in various car accidents. There are 90 000 000 gun owners in US and once in a while one of them goes berserk and kills a dozen or so people - a tragedy to be sure but basically statistically irrelevant.

  3. Only in America. But, don't forget, he's completely blameless, he was just exercising his 2nd Amendment right - to shoot and kill people he perceives as a threat to his life and liberty. 059_whistling.gif.a3aa33bf4e30705b1ad8038eaab5a8f6.gifHow can the authorities remove all his weapons?? That must be a sign of a Tyrannical Govt, who are infringing on his God-given, inviolable, 2nd Amendment right! 034_puzzled.gif.ea6a44583f14fcd2dd8b8f63a724e3de.gif

I've even seen a gun-fondler clown on a forum, claim that the 2nd Amendment was God-given, as if it came down from Mt Sinai on stone tablets!

He got his ass charged with a crime ... where is the story ?

  4. No it's the software standard, hardware quality, and definition level of the screens - that's what costs money.

    It does not.

You pay for having a specialized device manufactured for an extremely small market.

A high end glass panel doesn't even come close in power to your typical iPad - both CPU, Gpu and resolution-wise.

  5. HiI am trying to work out how to option a Kelpie. If I have Dynon skyview, do I need analogue speed, altitude and RPM?

On one hand, analogue watches are easier to read than digital watches.

On the other hand, if a simulated six-pack was better than tapes, then fighter pilots would use the simulated six pack, tapes would be uncool, and we would never have seen a tape in an aircraft.

So, there are two issues: dial vs tape, and screen vs physical thing. This ignores the requirements in a VH plane that can never fly IFR.

If glass is so great, why do people have the analogues right in front of them, to the left of the screen? This is confusing. I know I need to see a Dynon myself and will do that. Also, I am 48, have reading glasses, but don't need to use them to see Foxbat gauges because they are far enough away.

    Thanks!

P.S. Why isn't RPM one of the analogue gauges? Surely, people need to be able to set RPM precisely and quickly so that they get predictable performance in the pattern, and elsewhere? Thanks!

I figured I wanted to have a reasonable analog backup - so glass on the left and Altimeter, Speed, VSI and , precisely for the reason you mentioned , RPM gauge on the right.

  6. Well, for A32 ( as opposed to A22) are not so much different.

At least for me the most important were:

    - forgiving and overall easy to fly

    - great cockpit visibility ( I am doing it for fun after all )

    - decent cruising speed

Both Sting and A32 score well on all these points and I don't frankly care so much for STOL capability ( which is what sets A22 apart )

  7. Well , waiting another year seemed like a long time so I went for my next choice - got myself an almost new (150 hours ) Sting S4.

  8. I don't think you will ever see 110 kts cruise in the A22LS.Big thick and long wing, big rudder and fin and a fairly unaerodynamic fuse just about make it impossible with the Rotax.

I'm nudging 100 kts on a good day at 5500.

Smaller tyres and spats may give me another kt or two but after 90 kts it's all a brick wall.......

You're also hitting the "yellow arc" at 100 kts .......

Yes, I was actually referring to 110 MPH - if I can get that out of Foxbat 22 than this is not too bad.

Thanks for that very detailed and very helpful reply... It took me a long time ( 2 months ) but I am back in the business of looking for a plane ( I am a computer software engineer and my company decided to relocate to San Francisco area - went there for a week with my wife , even with almost doubled salary the place was still so crazy expensive ,even compared to Chicago, I decided I would rather find a new job than relocate - so now I got a new shiny job that pays almost just as good as in SF but is still located near Chicago)

Anyway, I am thinking about flying out to Oakland , TN to talk to Denis, have a demo flight etc .... The plane looks really sweet and the only thing that holds be back is the fact that I would like to use it for some cross-country trips with my wife and perhaps holding off for A-32 ( which can cruise at 115 knots but , according to Denis, won't be available until 2018 , if then ) would be more rational but hell, purchasing a plane is not a rational decision in the first place :-)

I am wondering, maybe I should order A22LS with 912is ( Sport) engine with wheel spats etc , as long as it can manage 110 cruise I would be perfectly happy ... Decisions , decisions :-)

  10. Thanks 2tonne. I am well pleased with the airplane, the quality of construction, the performance, and Aeroprakt's U.S. representative - Dennis Long. He is a great fellow to work with. Meanwhile, it's in the hangar due to a forecast of 6 days of rain, thunderstorms, and some tornadoes. Just in time for my 3-week holiday break and my plans to fly, fly, fly. Oh well. There's always another day. I'll still have days after this weather passage to get it out and about before returning to work.

Would it be possible for you to outline the process you went thru when purchasing the plane via Aeroprakt USA ?

How long it took, as everything done the way you requested etc ...

    Thanks

  11. According to Dennis , there won't be A32s available in the US until 2018 and even then , the aircraft needs to be certified first so , the actual sales probably won't be happening for a long, long while.

Too bad ... A32 appears to be just about a perfect option for a someone looking for a gentle , cross county capable plane with a bit of character ( in a good way )

    Thanks for your help.

  12. Hi,

I am wondering if A32 release is currently limited to Australia only ... it certainly seems that way, there is no mention of it at all the producer web site or frankly any other dealerships acrosss the world.

Seem quite curious to me.... one would assume releasing a new product that is supposed to represent next generation, would warrant a bit more publicity ... am I missing anything obvious here ?

Thanks for any insight .. ( obviously I am seriously interested in their aircrafts but this stealth mode like release gives me a pause here ...)
