An aeroplane that's flying well above stall as a % (like all low level cruise aircraft that aren't near their service ceiling) behaves very differently to one that's at the highest cruise level safe for it's weight. IF you are in the second category, losing a few knots (as one does in turbulence) will put you into a much less efficient Lift/drag situation and you have to do something about it or it degrades more. Eddies after separation of the boundary layer have their own inertias in the swirls as you will also observe in water flow at a river's edge. .Remove some of them over part of your wing and you are better off. You go a bit faster to do that but may reach M crit. easily if you are too high.. Nev
