  1. Change of wing Hi Pete, Yes same problem. Just new sails alone (don't need yet) from P&M in UK is $5000 inc shipping. A new Wizard III wing complete with shipping from Perth is I think $6,500. But it gets boring up there alone. I would still want to legally carry a passenger. I guess it can't be done if you still need the spare seat. Azhar
  2. Hi, Just a thought here. Is it possible to put a different manufacturer's wing on a trike? Bearing in mind the wing loading and wing surface area factors are matched to your engine capacity etc. Has anyone done this or given it some though? How would this affect the registration? Azhar
  3. Hi, The bushbaby: is that the new ones designed in South Africa now manufactured/sold as a kit in Mareeba? I didn't know the Gazelle had folding wings. Azhar
  4. Hi, I am wondering which fixed wing planes have the following options: 2 seater, tricycle wheel configuration, trailerable (so the enclosed trailer can become the hangar/folding wing option of course) and has a cruise speed of at least 75 knots - any engine. I can only think of the sykranger (with removable wing kit but that one you need 2 people and looks fiddly). Any ideas out there? For single seaters there's more choice. I think the sadler vampire is the only true single person foldable wing plane for the above specification unless anyone else knows of another. I would be interested to know your thoughts. Regards, Azhar
  5. Hi, I have a Rotax 462 and the service manual states a change in gearbox oil every 10 hours. It recommends SAE 140-GL5 Gear Oil. I've searched everywhere and all I can find is 75/80 SAE Gear Oil. Does anyone know of a good place to buy all your engine's maintenance oils and other bits etc? Thanks, Azhar
  6. Hi, Would appreciate feedback on this. Say you are about to taxi to enter the runway. The runway is 27/09. You enter and travel West along 27 to then turn around, line up and depart East on 09. What would your radio call be for back traking? Are you back tracking down 27 or back tracking up 09? Hope someone can clear my confusion on this matter. Regards, Azhar
  7. Hi, But do you think it would be suitable in an open cockpit high noise environment? Maybe I'll try it next week!! Azhar
  8. Non X-Country Ruling Hi, Can anyone clarify the restriction for non xc endorsement flights? 'Limited to 25nm radius upon point of take-off'. So could you in theory 'bunny hop' every 25nm to travel further? If so, does the landing need to be a full-stop landing or touch-and-go? Azhar
  9. Does anyone know where to get hold of trike wing covers - if so, roughly how much they cost and are they suitable for outside storage (not long term of course, but say a week or so here and there). Regards, Azhar
  10. Thanks Hi all, Many thanks. Yes you all are absolutely right - there's no limit to how much you can learn. I'm just so eager to get going so I guess I need to take a breather and take it step by step. But I must admit, an open cockpit certainly does pose difficulties. Hi Perry - excellent to hear from you. Will catch up soon to show you my new trike. Many thanks, Azhar
  11. Hi, Can anyone briefly let me know what theory I need to study for the cross country endorsment? I only have GA books at hand and need to filter out some unnecessary topics. Many thanks, Azhar
  12. Hi, I was taught this...on roll, keep bar in neutral until you can feel the wings wanting to lift off (control cables become taught) then rotate out fully and trim. Maintain climb speed. Short field take off is different... roll and gain enough speed for ground effect to take effect then push bar forward and let aircraft lift off the ground. But you will be flying in ground effect as you don't have sufficient speed to maintain full take off so immediately after the wheels leave the ground, bring bar back to neutral to gain airspeed then rotate out fully and trim. This technique is used for boggy/wet ground conditions where you need to get off the ground fast. Regards, azhar

  15. Hi, A while ago in the Pacific Flyer mag, Peter Mclean introduced his muffs for open cockpit flying. There wasn't a contact given only a price. Does anyone know where to get some? Pacific Flyer mag page 47 Oct 2006 Azhar
