  1. My Thruster has washout in it for sure, much like the R/C models I build but as to how many deg it is I would have to measure with my digital incidence meter,

Mine is the T83 ELF with 29'6" wing and has flapperons..

How it is achieved I would gather in the wing strut lengths, eg the rear strut is longer than the leading edge strut to lift the trailing edge spar upwards giving a - deg washout of the wing tip to increase the low speed stability, about 2deg but can check it for you if you like.

    Cheers Pete

The guy in the bed next to him got his viagra stuck in his throat and ended up having a really stiff neck..... :)

  3. They are most likely refering to the Yamaha RMAX heli which is used to spray crops, there short training I hope has changed as one bloke chopped himself up (and died) trying to fly one years ago.

I have flown R/C helis for 10+ years and these guys can fly one after one or two weeks training.... lol

  4. Peter I'd love a photo of the attachment points if you can. Pat

    Hey Pat,

I will get a pic next time I am out there, the points we used were either side of the main leading edge and trailing edge pipes but attached to the Square pipe not the wing pipes..

I gather thats where the engine hangs from so thats the strongest point...

    cheers Pete

  5. I'm looking to hang a Chinook single seat, weight about 128kg, I was hoping for something more conclusive, I might try a dolly frame with two pulleys and static climbing ropes.

I have my chinook WT11 hanging from our roof with no probs at all, used a car block n tackle attached to the main Square bar the wing and engine mount to :)

one strap at the engine end and another one at the front and all good....

    cheers Pete

  6. This is a PST Panther I have spent countless hours building and adding extra scale detail too, just have the decals to finish now :)

powered with a PST800R turbine, I will finish it as soon as I get my X-Air finished and registered

    cheers Pete

  7. Hi peteActually I havent flown any turbines or any models for about 18 months due to building the Sav but starting to get it all together again. There is a big event up here in about 2 weeks and I am supplying the jetA for the demos Ali machinchy is coming to do some demos and O'reilly is supplying the aircraft so I am supplying the fuel as a favour to Mike. I have quite a bit of jetA here I supply all my mates I collect all the dregs from tanks from heli's that they drain and are not allowed to put back in and they have to pay to dump so they like it when I turn up and bum all the JetA. I usually have 3 or 4 205 litre drums here at any one stage. The fuel isnt the issue it is the oil that is the costly stuff as you know.

I will probably get the magnum chute as I have fitted all the gear from ICP into the Sav and it is setup for the Magnum anyway just got to come up with the 5 grand thats all

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

Yeah same here, I almost finished a X-Air project which has slowed my Jet flying a but too, still get my P80 powered Kangaroo out when the weather is good and having our own strip its smoother than our local club field..... sounds like a great event going to be there.. Ali should put on a great display with what ever he gets to fly, I think he has flown almost every model made lol

nice for you to have so much JetA locally, yeah I usally get the Oil in boxes which is out of date for full size use but works great in our model Turbines.... ends up about $10 a can last box I got...

    Pete

  8. I emailed these guys the largest they do is 500kg they are working on a larger version for LSA but still a ways off

Hi Mark: I am sorry to report that our largest parachute is for a 500 kg payload. Larger systems won't come on line until next year.

Thanks for your interest, and please keep in touch!

    Hey Mark,

Maybe worth looking at next year then, be great for my X-Air weight wise but not having a 600+ type just yet looks like you will have to wait :)

you might have to rig up a Simjet instead of the rocket ones lol

You still flying ya turbine Jets?????

    Pete

  9. Great feedback, thanks.Incidentally folks can we have a few of you kit builders quantify the costs of some kits built to complete flying stage please? Also let us know what engines are installed - thanks.

    Savannah?

    Skyrangers?

    X-Air?

    Others?

I have almost finished building a X-Air Standard with my Dad and has been a great build project....

to approx the costings etc I will list below...........

    Kit was $15420 delivered

Rotax 582 with 3:1 gearbox, muffler, oil injection system was low hours s/h $4000

    New bolly 68" 3blade carbon prop $1374

A few thousand spent changing to better zipties, fuel line, fuel clamps, windscreen clamps, spiral wrap for wires,

fuel pump, head sets, radio, intercom, vhf antenna, High cranking amp battery, full set of gauges, fuel drain valve, battery cables & mount, lots more small items too as well as lots of tools purchased along the way too I havent priced into the project :)

Total cost me just over $24,000 but if using a new engine you would be at or just over $30,000

    cheers Pete

  10. They look easy to get into. The Sapphire I used to have was a bit of climb, and the Varieze would turn you into a ballerina. That 60 kt [65mph] sound more realistic vne. Ideal for thermalling as long as it has good aileron contol. They have thermalled these engine off for long periods. The Chinook I was looking at on Gumtree is not there anymore so he may have sold it. Now looking at another Sapphire or even a Rutan designed Quickie.

If your interested there is a chinook for sale in the Sport Pilot mag (Add 2937) all yellow with the new version full span aileron wings and upgraded tail... only has the 277 engine but includes a trailer too.... I would get it my self if it wasn't so far away...... located in WA :)

  11. I own one that Dad and I have fixed up but not yet flown but I have lots of video and info from other chinook flyers :)

we upgraded a few things like changing all the control cable pulley's from the old warn out bushed ones to nice stainless bearinged ones, re wired all the gauges as they were not right when we got it, made a longer pullstart cord and added a pulley above the seat so it can be started while sitting in the seat, felt to dangerous starting it while being behind the wing struts and not being close to the throttle, upgraded the elevator bearings for the main pivot which I found were worn out ( got them from the Canada Chinook factory ), mine has the boom mods done and also the alum pipe between the wing struts has been replaced for steel as these have failed....

They have great cabin room for a single seater too. plus I like the look of them too :)

there is a video here of a US bloke enjoying his chinook to give you a idea of how well they fly...

    http://www.lightsportaircraft.ca/volume1-issue9/webcast-3/

here is a good look at one on youtube too

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqlzw-aQMjk

from what I found they are only a slow flying plane and only had flight issues when people tried to fly them fast which caused the pitch issues mentioned

    Specs are :

    Cruise Speed: 45 .mph

    Stall Speed: 20 .mph

    VNE: 65 .mph

    cheers Pete

  12. Hi Steve, from the info I have in the logs the reg and serial are both no 49 not to bad to get both the same, I do know its a late version they made bacause it has the top and bottom wing ribs as well as a different boom location for the wing which was a one off version from what Tony Hayes has writen, by that I mean it has the wings mounted forward, closer to the engine than most T83 I have seen which gives the tail a longer moment making it better to control on the ground and in the air without wanting to ground loop.

    cheers Pete

  13. It wont be 10-0049 as thats the number on my Thruster T83 which has flaperons and is a EHF version they done with a full rear pod which looks awesome too.

I havent flown it yet as I'm building a X-Air S to get my licence in, not sure where you herd or read that you dont need a RAA licence or reg aircraft needed if flying on your own property but I do like the idea though :)

    cheers Pete

  14. Hi Pete,Just any type of info you have basically, electrical schematics, maintenance manuals, operating manuals, general speeds/performance charts just anything you think I'd find useful.

I can PM you my email address or I can provide you with webspace to upload them if you prefer.

    Thanks heaps,

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

I got ya pm thanks and will dig out the info for ya, may take me a couple of days as I have heaps of info here thruster related so I will need to get the T83 specific info.

    cheers Pete

  15. Well if there was only 49 then I have the last one they made 10-0049 :) T83 ELF

had new covers fitted and been restored with only 55 min flying since to get it to my place, rotax 503 powered which has heaps of power.

I have folders of info that I got with the T83 :) what specs are you after??

    cheers Pete
