Russ
Jack.............had to use "opal" on a few occasions in my soob ej22............i definately noticed a drop in performance, needed more revs at usual cruise mode, also used more fuel ........ the statement that opal is infact near on 100 octane does not stack up with my experiences. Somewhere...........i have a mail from BP ( trying to find it ).........i then asked, if opal was suited for an aero engine "efi" that was certified to run on ordinary unleaded....... minimum, preferably premium, the answer was NO. My then actions was to add "octane booster" to any opal i was forced to accept. This then made my machine run as normal. cheers............russ
Vev
Hi Russ, I assure you that Opan is 100 RON Octane and not 91 ... the feedback you have been given is the Marketing Spec and not the Actual Typical Technical Spec. The base fuel is made from Iso-octane the same as Avgas less the lead (0.55 gm/lt for 100LL).... you can't make a low volitile fuel from anything else in such quantities. Guest rhtrudder
Have been using an additive in my 914 . 300 hours later no trouble . Was worried about detenation so fitted a knock meter . Tested it with A.V.gas in one tank unleaded in the other , switching between the two, cant tell the difference . Regards Greg
