New wooden prop for Jabiru

Sorry if this was brought up earlier...

Three Jabis landed at YCCA - Chinchilla - las Saturday. Amongst these was a brand new 230 - nice!

All these planes had a new type of prop that looks very nice. They say that the vibration is less, rate of climb is better and that the speed is the same (as the conventional prop). Apparently the prop is selling for about $1100.00. Does anyone have any more information in this regard? Where, who and how much?

Hi, are these props just the new timber ones with the rubber insert or were they black and made from carbon fibre?

If you're talking Carbon there's a thread on it in the Jab forum but the props we disussed were a reasonable amount more than $1,100.

The ones I saw were wood with a rubber insert. I'll check out the prop forum. Thanks

Last time I saw Cliff Banks (a week ago) he was pretty chuffed with his new prop. Wooden wonder with yellow urethane? insert.

Seems that because its LSA (J170c) Jabiru can certify it themselves. Not sure of the brand - I was quite busy that day and so was Cliff. 031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

No increase in speed, but climbs much better. I'll chase him up next week.:big_grin:

regards

When you see your mate again could you please ask him for more info? It seems that there is room for improvement with regard to props.

What you've described sounds to me like the new standard Jabiru prop. They changed within the last year from memory. I think you'll find that it's standard issue for Jab props now but I'd check before ordering to be sure. $1,100 sounds a tiny bit dear ($1k is what they were delivered) so it may be a bit extra over the old ones.

"Sensenich" props by the prop specialist from the USA.

The first trial lot had a bit too fine a pitch and a some changes had to be made to get the best performance.

A very good move by Jabiru as our experience with Jab props for glider towing gave us the impression that their props were cut out with an axe that was swung by somebody with a sight impediment!

Remember though, Sensinich is not approved for the Jab in Australia on factory built aircraft. Also, they are a lot more expensive.

I think that Jabiru have self certified, (under LSA) these new Sensenich propellors, as Cliff Banks has one on his J170c Jabiru.

So (LSA) J170c and J230c (and probably J120) factory built aircraft can now fit Sensenich props. 018_hug.gif.8f44196246785568c4ba31412287795a.gif

Won't happen for us J160c owners though - sigh. 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Jabiru were definitely trialling the Sensenich props and not just for non certified aircraft.

I also understand that Cliff is pretty pleased with his prop.

Will find out some more this week I hope.

Jab props have also risen very substantially in price so that I believe there is only a couple of hundred difference in price.

Will check this also as our kit built J170 owner is considering a Sensenich replacement prop.

On the kit build, the Sensinich is no problems of course! Yes sorry, the LSA is a different story, so I'll have to be careful of that from now on as most a/c seem to be becoming LSA nowdays.

For yez info, I have a recent quote for a white painted Sensenich prop for my 230 of $US845 + shipping and 60 days lead time.

I thought that price was pretty good.

Gee - how did the fumigator get past all that hi-tech synthetic, impervious coating that protects the wood from moisture absorbtion? 031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif068_angry.gif.cc43c1d4bb0cee77bfbafb87fd434239.gif:yuk:

Oh - bum. Sorry - It would have been a Government department - they can do anything!:big_grin:
