Effect of altitude on flying characteristics

Recommended Posts

Bing mixture compensation.

The Bing is a CV (constant vacuum) carburetter and what happens to the slide at altitude is exactly what happens at lower altitudes if you throttle it back to the same manifold pressure as it would register at full throttle at altitude. The taper on the needle would then be what determines the mixture. (as it does at ALL positions of the slide). It is considered to automatically compensate for altitude and in a sort of way it does. It certainly does not richen up like a fixed venturi carburetter, as you get higher..

Note I am NOT talking about the direct slide (cable operated) types fitted to the 2-strokes here.. Nev..
