Nancy Bird Walton Memorial

Despite the overcast skies and early morning rain, Luskintyre Airfield draw a large crowd for the official opening of the Nancy Bird Walton Memorial Tower. The RAAF Band turned up and played a few themes from aviation movies. When the band ran out of puff, Glenn Miller music blended in with the sounds of Tiger engines. After a few official words from the hosts and local Mayor the Tower was declared open and the masses ascended. Flying Dog was seen scrambling into Brumby for a quick circuit. The three Tiger Moth formation was held up for a short time due to the timed 11am arrival of Matt Hall in Fightertowns P51. Some mighty fine flying followed before he slipped off back towards Willy. Tiger Moths filled the sky for the rest of the event. Thanks to the Luskintyre crowd for a great day.

We also had a tribute in Perth with a Langley Park fly-in.

Here's some photos of the day and the video will be uploaded as soon as I get home from work.

Dexter, the weather was bit iffy but worked out OK. Flying Dog possibly has some good pix to post he was walking around with an impressive camera all day. there was also some coverage on NBN news on Saturday night.

Hey Brett, I didn't know Nancy Bird Walton was that well known there. You want to get in touch with the guys at Luskintyre as they may be interested in any thing you have from her, pictures, etc.

Very well known here in WA mate, she'll be sadly missed for sure. There's a number of her interviews online, really good to have a look at.

Will get in touch with the guys for sure!
