  1. thinking of building a new wing, the foxcon wing is pretty damn heavy compared to a wood, fabric wing. I have been toying with the idea of a simplifies wing, keeping all the moving components and bell cranks out of the wing all together. this is just an idea at this point. the flap runs a larger torque tube setup through the body of the flap, the aileron torque tube runs through the flap torque tube with sealed bearing keeping them concentric. both run on the same axis but move independently of each other. Again....this is just testing the theory at this point, actual load and torsional tests will be run on the torque tubes and the bellcranks themselves to see if its feasible.

  2. Updated Version, little bit beefier around the axle mount and more meat top side, aft of the main gear leg mount hole. 3d printed a prototype out of ABS and test fitted excellent. the mission was to gain a little more prop clearance and to be able to fit the bigger Tyres

  3. Haven't forgotten about the Foxcon, have had a few things going on in the background, this is the new nose wheel fork I designed to accommodate the bigger Tyre and get a bit more clearance for the prop over the original one, attached are some renders and also a 3d printed prototype I knocked out through the night, fits the original front leg spot on and has nice clean clearance and should help with  avoiding prop strikes.

No i am using1.6 mandrel bends and cutting of holes in tube easy to weld and a small muffler all ms  i dont have tig gear any more so ss tig is out i recently welded a new pipe on a 40 year ol ms pipe on a 172 so ms does and can last for many years,it will last me anyway

You could always cerakote the exhaust too if you are using mild steel. Mild steel has less tendency to crack too

  5. Good morning,

I've been working on my own aircraft for a couple of years now and designing various parts and aircraft. i have found the road to be relatively difficult initially trying to source parts for aircraft builds/homebuilt etc. especially when compared to USA. Admittedly, everything is available but i have found more often than not, specialized items will need to be sourced from the USA. I do understand aviation in Australia doesn't have the following like it does over there, but it does get me wondering a few things.

-What are some of the biggest parts or materials hurtles you have had

-what would you like to see more readily available?

-any particular material/parts you were unable to source?

    Cheers

    Bob,

Great comments borne from experience and the fundamentals of aircraft design.

That Falco just is sexy, a timeless beauty. If it looks right, it flys right.

Yes, today a better aircraft might be designed but damn it's hard to beat an Italian master. No CAD, no CATIA or fluid dynamics programs just pure design.

This provides an Italian lesson "form follows function, but beautiful form gives beautiful function".

Not only does this provide a wonderful flying machine but makes the pilot and bystander want it. It's an emotional thing when you purchase or lust after a personal aircraft. Same goes for cars and bikes for fun, you don't pay top dollar for the fugly one that lumps along. No we want a machine that attracts the eye, commands the heart and satisfaction in high engineering.

If you can make a baby Falco as good as the original or better, you have a winner.

the falco was one of the inspirations for drawing up my own, love the aircraft, always have.

  7. Ok so, life does what it does and happens....just like the rest of us. Have had a bit of time off so have been working on the Foxcon Project and have made some ground finally with the Valkyrie design, i had to become more efficient at CAD to finish the bits that were holding me up.....but.....i am nearly there with the final drawings and renders, also had to teach myself how to do the render artwork aswell but i have some pics here of the progress. Aero-Ex-Poster-3.thumb.jpg.494f76164e9b2b1330dd81e0531f9870.jpgAero_Ex_Valkyrie_MK5_Final_11_01.24_2024-Jan-14_07-50-38AM-000_CustomizedView2041556429.thumb.png.8bdd8ca44d602772fa14f0d7f09d5494.pngAero_Ex_Valkyrie_MK5_Final_11_01.24_2024-Jan-14_07-59-29AM-000_CustomizedView10729970913.thumb.png.f69e81478f1312fc14144185872fd1c0.pngValkyrieMk5RenderBlank.thumb.png.e13429fd9e06267c44269d84cb12baf9.pngAero-Ex-Poster-3.thumb.jpg.494f76164e9b2b1330dd81e0531f9870.jpg

  8. Good afternoon, looking to see anyone's thoughts on a good improvement on from the Clark Y airfoil, I believe these are a good airfoil with relatively stable stall characteristics but is o tad on the older side.

not wanting to reinvent the wheel but looking for honest opinions on maybe a better designed airfoil for better STOL Characteristics, 90kn cruise etc.

    Cheers

  9. Good evening all,

Just looking to get some insight on inspecting wood wings, they are uncovered and mostly constructed, they are either Spruce or Hoop pine but id say they are hoop pine just based off the information i have.

besides the obvious things like cracking and splits etc, are there any techniques, checks i can do on the spars? moisture check etc

    Cheers in advance

    Cheers

Over the years I have noticed so many marriage problems for aircraft builders.  In the 1970's a friend was building a VP1.  His wife left him for another woman.  I have stopped building my own design because of the extreme hassles I was getting.  Why do our partners object so strongly?  Sorry if this is a little off subject. I hope things work out well for you PP.  I am behind you all the way.  Your craft will be great, you are putting a great effort into it.

Appreciate the positivity mate, never really have quite understood the issue with having projects while in relationships. Motivation to fi is this thing has never dimmed though and now having more dedicated time to put in I'm feeling really good about it
