  1. Hi all,

I know that to carry pax you have to have done 3 take offs & landings within the previous 90 days. My question is whether this has to be done in an RA aircraft or whether 3 takeoffs/landings in a GA aircraft would count as being current.

The ops manual says that the takeoffs/landings must have been "in an aircraft of a "similar" type [their " "] as that to be used for the carriage of passengers".

Would a GA aircraft qualify as "similar"?

  2. Thanks everyone

Congratulations Dark One! I am mightily impressed having followed your progress from the dark days when you wondered out loud if you'd ever get this landing business sorted.

haha, thanks! I've come a fair way from when I thought I'd never be able to land, although I still do some absolute shockers! 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

]Is the next hurdle to be CPL?

I'd like to do CPL eventually, but the next plan is tailwheel/aeros :)

Well done little Princess. Proud of you!:clap2::clap2:David

    I guess I'm truly a 'Warrior Princess' now! 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

  3. gr8 Work there Darky ! Congradulations. Hey Whats the PPL set you Back Now days ? Did you do your Raaus Flying Cert First then the PPL ? Cheers Lance

The RA-Aus flying does count towards it, yes. But I had to go over the general handling and go solo etc in the Warrior which added hours. I think it cost me round $15,000 at a guess, perhaps a bit less.

  4. Thanks all :)

I've looked at the websites of a few clubs, but the main thing that's putting me off is that you have to pay a yearly membership of their club. I don't particularly want to do that since I'm not planning on taking up gliding as a hobby, I'd just like to try it to improve my skills (e.g. forced landings, since you only really get one chance to land in a glider, so it's always a forced landing...), so I'm reluctant to pay the fee. I might email a few of them and see if I can organise a weekend thing without the membership fee or at a reduced fee or something...hmmm

  5. Hi all,

I'd like to try my hand at gliding, does anyone know of anywhere that does gliding reasonably close to Melbourne? I was thinking of seeing if I could organise a '1 day intensive' sort of thing, or maybe go there for a weekend and do a 2 day thing.

So does anyone know of somewhere reasonably near Melbourne that teaches gliding and any idea of a rough cost estimate for it?

    Cheers

  6. Early 1990's and my instructor was bemoaning the loss of students directly related to the women in their life - she was either scared her meal ticket would be killed in a crash, jealous that he was spending more time flying than with her, or spending money having fun when it could have been spent on other things she considered more enjoyable. His own girlfriend kept up a littany of "If you love me, you would give up flying ..." I used to listen to so much moaning about how wives / girlfriends hated flying from commercial pilots scrapping a living in the hope of cracking an airline job - and this is what makes them give up in sight of the prize. How many here have moved on from aviation resistant partners? Or given up the dream in the younger years for lack of support?

Then again, half of them probably wouldn't want a girlfriend who flies because (as several pilot blokes have told me) she'd know when he was BSing about things... gleam.gif.61a3085bab2441797a6de7bfc35070cb.gif

  7. He's welcome to kill his catalytic converter if he wants, it's not my car! I do have some doubts myself but I said I'd at least ask around and see if it was possible for him to get his hands on some. The rest of it is up to him.

(personally I think he's nuts, it's going to ruin his car and I don't see the gain from it being enough to make the price of the AVGAS plus the price of repairs worthwhile)

  8. where can i get an aviator watch that is girlie and pretty?? that thing i wear just doesnt go! girls?

If you have a spare $500ish, Abingdon Watches do girly aviator watches. Only problem is that as far as I can see from the pictures, they don't have markings for each minute, only for every 5 minutes. I could be wrong tho (it does seem kinda illogical for an aviator watch not to have minute markings but anyway...). But they're definitely all pretty, you can get one with rhinestones around the edge and stuff.

I, on the other hand, ditched the 'girly' and 'pretty' and bought a mens one because it was a limited edition Red Arrows one 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

And congrats on the XC! If the weather ever improves, I won't be far behind you!

  9. A friend of mine is planning to race his car and was asking me about getting his hands on AVGAS to put in his car.

I'm fairly certain he can't just go to the airfield and buy it because he doesn't have a licence, is that right?

But are there any rules that would prevent me from buying a jerry can of AVGAS to take if I wanted to, or can you only buy it for use at airfields/in aircraft etc?

  10. You'll enjoy the Cooper Darky, I had the privilege to drive one a couple years ago (don't tell anyone!), they are good fun. Plane would be first priority I thought though! 017_happy_dance.gif.8a199466e9bd67cc25ecc8b442db76ba.gif

I love Minis, ever since the new ones came out I've desperately wanted one. Now just gotta save up this year for a nice 2nd hand one (unless I win lotto on saturday night...got me a ticket!).

Plane isn't a priority at the moment, mainly because I don't have enough experience to know what I want. I could go out and buy a plane now only to discover that by the end of this year I want a tailwheel aeros machine or something. Too much around to be making any decisions yet!
