  1. very cool video,,hard to imagine spending all day at dot feet,,,they must be absolutely buggered at the end of the day

It does get very tiring day after day, i can be found sitting on the tyre most afternoons think What the F*ck am i doing this for, then next morning just before daylight your strapping yaself in again doing the same thing again. 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

    immediate cause[/url].

Something so simple, however it was in the overshoot section, so he could have had a problem or just didnt quiet get it off in time.

    a pity thats for sure.

  2. Christian,

The towers idea is great, we have a great strip here, and you are right there is plenty of camping space, the ovals right next door could very easy handle 500 + campers, there is a lot of locals here who would gladly help, we are a very friendly bunch and this type of exposure is what we been trying to get, with the gliding club, local ultralight guys, myself with gyros, and the local air force cadets, and the local ga guys, drop me an email if you want any more info.

I should be in ingham also, with a demo flight as asked.

  3. G'day Tsemler, sorry about my post i should explain what i was meaning when i said "when i get it up and recertified i will go and learn how to fly it (maybe)

what it should read is, when i get it up and recertified, if i get up enough courage, i will get lessons on how to fly a gyro, at this stage it was just to build one then sell it or even give it to someone that can fly one.

anyone that knows me, knows that i think a gyro or chopper is a million parts all wanting to go in different directions and every landing is a controlled crash (that is just my opinion) (dont want to upset anyone but thats just me)

I do have a bit of knowledge of how gyro's work, and have been around a fair few aircraft over the last 25 years to understand them.

I am looking for another challenge in life and thought getting a broken aircraft back in the air would be a good thing for me to tackle.

I apologise if i have upset anyone with my comment on the training side, but i hope this post has cleared that up.

I will email bones for more info,

    Cheers,

at no stage would i ever dare to fly any aircraft that i did not have training on, that is just straight out stupid.

NW, there is good advise above here, look up the club over there, seek out Adrian Stoffels, he has a weath of advise for some one starting out.

Sorry been away for awhile this is why i not replied ealier.

  4. thats sad to hear. its a very trying job, i guess, doing crop dusting and mustering...any type of low level airwork. extremely difficult to see powerlines and such, whilst trying to maintain ur eyes on your work, as well as the aircraft attitude and possible hazards.commiserations to the family of the pilot involved....051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Trust me there is only one thing that really, scares the sh*t out of me, and that's "the lines of death" as we call them, it is IMPOSSIBLE to see without the posts, there is one line near Ravenswood NQ, claimed the lives of 2 in a R22 about 15-20 years ago mustering, i was at the same property a couple of years ago, and one of the guys that was there that fatal day warned me about where it was, even when i knew where it was, you could not see it, situation is, one pole on 1 hill and about 2km away another pole on top of the next hill, in the middle it is about 250', right where you should be mustering, and even though i flew over the top of the pole and followed the line down about 50' away, i COMPLETELY lost it about 50' from the post, they just vanish.

So if you fly low be very aware of the surroundings, and you get very spoilt in the NT, cause there is none out here, but its a real shock to the system flying home at 100' looking out the the side seeing a line of poles coming at you :ah_oh:

  5. No i was talking on the approach before they landed, they just seem soo much louder empty, i know they throw reverse in once they touch ect, and yes you can really hear that, but it was surprising how loud too me anyway the noise empty.

  6. Is it just my imagination but after spending a week at an airport, where a AT802 or is it AT820, anyway one of those big kick ass spray planes fly from.

My question is why do those engines sound soo much louder when the plane is empty coming back in, on full song taking off they not too bad, but as they land to reload, the just sqreams????

  7. Hi thereI'm really interested in the product you have described and wonder what your experience has been in-flight. Is the tank sufficiently sealed to avoid problems of fumes in a closed cockpit?

No matter what solid containers I have tried, they all seem to have a propensity to leak vapour and that scares the *&$* out of me.

I'm also nervous of the prospect of havng something behind the front seats that might spring a leak.

I am also considering having a shaped ss tank manufactured to fit the floor in front of the rear seat because I found an endurance of little more than 3 hours including reserves was not all that reassuring on my last trip around the Centre.

My Auster J5D holds 68 litres in the main tank (with guage) and 52 litres (no guage) in the belly tank. I don't mind having to land to do a transfer as long as I have the fuel available.

    kaz

    Kaz

I too was abit concerned about the things you mentioned, but to please me it proved to be not the case, because it is collapsable the whole tank is completely sealled, you carry it to the booser, it has two hard handles to carry, then i strap it back in with the seat belt, plug the hoses together, then once the main tank gets to about half start the transfer pump, as it pumps out the tank starts to suck in, and as there is no air getting in, it completely sucks in.

All in all a real good tank for MY needs any way, this way i have 4 hrs main tank and 3+ in the plastic tank, all usable without landing if needed. Wish i had the this machine now, 20 knot wind and yep you guessed it near full head wind, so now i need to try and find fuel in the middle of the desert 049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif

  8. Bones, have you run into the Cliffs in Boulia ?. Billy Cliff had a couple of Thrusters, then got into Gyros last I heard. Not sure where they are relative to town but maybe they might have cheaper gas at their property ?............................................................Maj...024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

I thought it was Cluffs, but anyway i know of them, in the gyro world, actually their npehew? i think, wants me to teach him to fly as soon as i get time. i do have a contact this side that i can get fuel, but i preferr to keep my asks until i "really" need them if you know what i mean.

  9. Landed at Coonamble for a fuel top up. Great service there, ring up the number on the aero club wall, and the chap was out in a few minutes. Fueled up, nearly died when coming to pay for it... over $2 litre...... 040_nerd.gif.a6a4f823734c8b20ed33654968aaa347.gifAnyway, that can't be helped.....

Im hearing ya there you want to try Boulia, $2.35 ouch, but still cheaper then walking

  10. You dont need to fill the spring, just put a generous dollop along the side of the spring(pushing it in between the rings of the spring) from one end to the other preferrably right to the actual attachment piont, the idea is to take the vibs out of the spring, with the silastic on it it cant shake, and fatigue as quickly, should get twice the life out of the springs if done right.

  11. Hmmmm this is very interesting, i do not belong to the RAA, though food for thought, is ASRA(gyro world) is all voluntary board member and their time is just that voluntary, and well i wont bore(shock) you all with our fees :)

You would think with the 10k odd members the RAA has, one only needs to think where does all this money go, and yes the ASRA has to jump through all the same hoops the RAA does, and ASRA last time i talked to a board member was one of the top performers in CASA's eyes.

Must cost a lot of money to keep that office open.

  12. Tomo, ill be going back up through that way early next week, sitting Quirindi now, but i just punch in the next stop and sit about 500' over the top of the hard stuff and watch the view, best to fly over all that lovely country between Roma and Emerald is at 500' best seat in the world, unless you dont trust your motor that is :)

  13. Ok now i dont mind playing with electrics, but this is not playing the way i want it too, might be a case of looking too hard, but i have a mind blank right now.

What i have is a infinity aerospace hand grip with 50 switches and 5000 wires(seems like it any way) coming out of it, i worked out the wires ect, eg for the trim i was going to use the 4 way rocker switch on top, but there is only 5 wires for it, after friggin with the multi meter, found out the switch connects the corrosponding wire to ground, there is no + wire to feed power in, the wiring diagram i have for the motor requires a + and - to go to the switch, so the switch can then reverse the polarity to suit the direction required.

Anybody wired one of these hand grips before, and can give me a SIMPLE schematic to work to?? i_dunno

    Thanks

  14. If I remember correctly...Jab sort of did that back at the beginning. They built the plane and put an Italian (?) engine in them. Then the company stopped making the engine so Jab were left with a plane without a suitable engine. They decided to start from scratch and manufacture their own.

Thats fine then i knew nothing of the history, when you look at it that way i guess it is good that they got as far as they have.

Turbo, yes i agree, like i said i know basically nothing about the jab, but they are a great looking LOCAL made AC, just a pity they have these troubles. But yes i agree its a lot easier to blame some one else, than to man(or woman) up and admit you made a mistake.

Been eating a bit of humble pie lately and it not nice either but it was my balls up. 025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif

  15. A serious question here, can you order a new Jab with say a 914, or does it have to be their engine?

I would have thought the best thing to do would be to build a beautiful plane and use a known engine UNTIL they could have done their R&D on their engines, maybe offer the plane a bit cheaper with the jab engine, but they are still getting them out the door, money still rolling, so the R&D can continue?

Or have i got my head up my own butt ?? because i dont get to sit around talking with alot of people, but i can tell you the jab engine is not a good topic to bring up.

  16. A quick question. I don't understand what this instrument does for the $350+? I mean, I have a computer in my car that tells me fuel burn on either instantaneous or average basis and it helps me to be less aggressive on the accelerator. But in a plane without a mixture control? It may help you know how much fuel you have left but if you allow yourself 45 minute reserve, you don't have to know that accurately. I guess it would tell you something if you sprang a leak.

When they are set right they will give you an accurate reading down to about 2 lts left in the tank, they have the flow in 0.1 lt, i have used one for 1700hrs on the rotax i have now great for a SECOND check on what is left in the tank, i always would get nervous when the alarm went off i had set for 10 lts left, i would land and double check it was accurate, then i knew i had 30 mins before i was back on the ground again(1 way or the other)011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

Mine though lately has had a brain fade, it will not keep settings, turn it off and it resets itself, very annouying, very unusable also, so i have a guage in the dash not worth its weight.

  17. Ok not sure if this is the same thread i looked in before or not but here is a classic NOT listening to your motor, the motor slows and burgs about 5 secs before it shuts down, when it happened he was over the road, a lot better out come i would think.

  18. You gyro guys have realy got me thinking, wasn`t aware of the mustering bit,it may be that you are correct,Gyro versus fixed wing.Frank.

There is mustering and there is mustering, it all depends on your interpretation of it

  19. Gyros. Sorry Bones, but I just don't trust myself!! I know you need to be 110% when flying, but I have the feeling you have to be 130% when flying Gyros??!!

Honestly they are easier to fly than the fw in thermals and rough conditions ect, as they dont get thrown around as much.

Anyway got to get my stuff ready heading of in a week for another 6 weeks of play time 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif or and did i mention it is still freezing over there:ah_oh:

What ever your choice of flying is, enjoy it, do it safe and have fun, i enjoy being around all types of flying stuff, sitting and hangar talking with a couple of lames up here is my favourite type of time wasting. Hope you find what your looking for Plane, i wasnt doing a sales pitch, it was just my opinion nothing more nothing less.

Tommo i be through your neck of the woods in about 5 weeks to bring the new one home, might look you up, and if your up to it, cut some holes in the sky, then oyu know what im talking about 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

  20. Have mustered on the ground with a gyro and there are a few around.......but I'm still a chicken when it comes to them!!Hamish

Hamish have you ever been up in one? i believe you will change you mind when you under the huge operating envelope these machines(step up right) have for this job, mate if you send me a pm i will come down(if your not too far away) and show you how good they are.
