  1. Ahhh yes David! coudn't have said it sweeter! I'm in love with taildraggers haha!

     

    Ur so right about learning what a rudder really is for!

     

    Learning what ur plane is all about is so evident in a taildragger and more masked in a trike.

     

    Horespower (careful use of throttle), wing span to prop diameter for torque rudder deflection, length of nose (more or less tendency to nose over including careful braking and also runway surface), and wide or narrow track undercarriage and groundlooping.... I see where they can bite you! ...but aren't they so sweet !

     

     

  2. Gimme a taildragger and stick anyday! ...nosewheels r good... but my first plane's gunna be a corby starlet for many reasons.

     

    Taildraggers make u more aware of nosing over, whereas some trike pilots aren't used to holding the stick back whilst taxying and sometimes aren't aware of the pressure they are exerting on a nose leg when they taxi/take-off/land !

     

    On taildraggers, its fun to put 'em down on 3 points... On trikes, U gotta put 'em down on 2 points to take the exertion of landing before you lower the nose, otherwise if u 3 point a trike on landing that nose is taking the brunt the mains should be taking first.

     

    A nice slow 'n' easy 3 pointer on a taildragger and you're firmly on the gound!

     

    A nice slow 'n' easy touch down on ur mains in a trike, ur not fully on the ground yet, ur lacking nose steering until that nose wheel touches and ur using the rudder!

     

    Both got their pro's 'n' cons...

     

    But tail dragger for me anyday !

     

    Would that be right or could someone please correct me? :)

    Yes the AAL is a good place for youngins starting out in flying! I was a member once before I joined the RAAF. The aircraft construction and theory of flight subjects are actually quite good. The discipline is good too.. Once he leaves his junior cadet rankings get him into flying!!

    ....old school totally rocks!

     

    I'm originally from the central coast too! From Umina Beach! ...yes I'm a beach bum haha (jokes) I used to work at Westfield Tuggerah for a while there hahaha... I've flown out of Warnervale a few times too. I hated the rocks on the tarmac that the props would kick up.

  5. Hey guys here's something random,

     

    In the garage, I found the most hilarious book recently called "practical flying"... I was really surprised when i opened it that it was a flying training manual from 1917 !!!!! I skipped to the 'solo' part and it was the funniest read ever! Apparently if you're a good horse rider you'll make a great pilot hahahaha so there ya go man! ..If we could only do today what those guys did back then!!!! ...I guess I kinda learned how to tune a gnome rotary from it tho LOL... scary much... Anybody interested in reading it??

    I think it's awesome that you already know what you want to do in life!

     

    I first started flying when i was 15. I got photo's of me in my profile on here!

     

    In the begining what I did first was speak to my careers advisor at school and they contacted the local flying training schools in the area and made a deal and organized one day a week after school for a few hours each week to study the theory component of becomming a pilot. The course is called BAK (basic aeronautical knowledge). Since the school organized it, I got it a bit cheaper and it was classed as an extra subject!

     

    So maybe speak to your careers counsellor at school after the holidays and they might be able to give you a head start as they did with me.

    Thanx 4 the reply. I notice you have a sportstar! ...wow... some time ago I seen one with mum n dad at Boonah Qld (flying tigers club) and it was quite nice!

     

    I gotta admit those types of machines are the future ...who on earth would want a C-152?? ....and yes I do have it bad.. it's gotten to the point where I guess the plane flying overhead by the type of engine I hear... and if it's not a Lycoming, I run outside to see what it is flying overhead! ..If it's a radial, I fly out the door! hehehe

    ..The name's Adam, I'm new here and what an awesome site this is!

     

    First started flying at age 15 (gliding) then moved onto GA but moved straight onto ultralights as soon as I discovered them at age 16!

     

    I gotta love the performance today's ultralights can put out as opposed to the old GA derelicts of yesteryear (although i have a soft spot for some GA aircraft, but not the costs associated with them!!!)

     

    I'm very much so looking foward to building my first aircraft, but first I need some help with which category to start! The second hand market looks good but can be hit-and-miss there. Factory aircraft are nice and shiney and $$$ however I don't get to put my love into it !

     

    I want to build and fly and never sell a nice spruce and ply Corby starlet or a Taylor Titch with a lovely Jabiru 80hp....I'm leaning towards the Corby. Two seat aircraft are great, however I'll stick with a 1 seater for now.

     

    It's great to be a member here !:thumb_up:
