1. That's what I thought Turboplanner. I have the latest .PDF of the CASA VFRG. I just can't curl up on bed and read a laptop. :)
2. Thanks for the feedback everyone. FlyingVizsla - is this the one you were referring to?
3. Just wondering if anyone has a CASA Visual Flight Rules Guide they would like to sell? (I know these are essentially out of date) but for general reading - I prefer books than .PDFs and/or print outs. If anyone is interested in selling a copy - please PM me. Better still - CASA - please put this back into print! Thank you kindly. AV8A
4. Thank you very much Cameron - just because my reply isnt as long winded, doesnt mean I am less gratfull mate! Thanks also for the link - I have spent many a late night searching for more information on the Sierra before I thought it prudent to post. Obviously I havent seached this site enough.. Its changed since I used it last Speaking of late nights - you guys both have taken considerable time during the witching hour to help a stanger out. Good sign of a healthy forum IMHO! :clap2:
5. Thanks Kevin, I obvously haven't spoken to Garry yet as I prefer to get first hand opinions from those who may be in the know. Opinions come from experience either direct or indirect with a given product and surely others have already asked simialar questions of Garry. I can only imagine he is busy building planes and would field these questions regularly from people who are still in the preliminary stages of aircraft ownership and merely tieing up his valuable time. Thank you very imput mate and best of luck with your own kit! I am another step closer to aircraft ownership!
6. Hi guys, I have a lot of questions about the Sierra and dont know where to begin. Some elements have been discussed but I will revisit some queries for confirmation. *Firstly can a BRS be fitted to the Sierra, and if so what brand is recommneded? *Has anyone got any pics of a glass setup in the Sierra yet or have recommendations? *Has there been any talk of the Sierra 100 being brought up to the 600kg class in the near future? (factory built obviously). I guess the alternative is the 2+2 and run it without the rear seats (ie.J230) *What inflight adjustable prop unit is recommended with the Jab3300 and Viking? What the expected cruise with both units? *Is there any information concerning the derigging of the wings? Is this a one or two person afair? *Is there a dedicate forum or builder blog on the Sierra available? *Does anyone in Brisbane have the dvd on the Sierra that I can copy please? *Whats the fuel capacity of the Sierra? are long range tanks available? Sorry for all the questions, I think the Sierra ticks alot of boxes (for me personally) compared to anything else on the market IMHO. Any advise, suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated!
7. I have been in your position. 12 years ago I had litterally just picked up a near new car from the dealership (I hadnt insured it yet :S) and was turning off into the city just after the westgate bridge in melbourne. Anyway the traffic on the off ramp was back almost to the highway and so to turn off it was a matter of going from 100 to 0 in a matter of meters. Inevitablly I had a car come flying up behind me with all brakes fully locked and smoke bellowing - I pull off the road quick smart and drove down the very steep embankment. Needless to say the car that was infront of me got a decent nudge.
8. Ex AFL Geelong captain Leigh Colbert used to fly the same C150 out of Avalon as me :D Not a racing driver - but interesting never the less!
9. Thanks mate, I guess I need to work out what I want from flying - rather than just flying itself. I worked my ass off through school and what not - I was even a flight simulator guinea pig for Hawker Pacific once upon a time at 14. The plan was always to go commercial. Now at 31 i think i am over the hill for that - personally. I think I might drop into Evans Head this weekend and pull some ears and get an idea of whats involved in ownership these days, and what the advantages and disadvantages are.
10. nice video! I think I know the #9 sprintcar - if its who I am thinking of he was always stacking! :P
11. I am only new myself, but welcome! Its challenging, is great fun and its addictive! Once you start - you can't stop. You might take a 10 year holiday 1 hour from solo! But you know you'll back! ;)
12. Thank you for the warm welcome Tomo! I had about 12 - 14 logbook hours before the whole S11 thing. Dual went from around $169 p/hr (omg so cheap!) for a 180hp Warrior to about $220 with the overnight insurance scare and airport security brought into play and what not. I was only making about $350 a week! The J230 certainly does tick alot of boxes for me personally and is on my short list for sure! Are there any links available that outline typical running costs associated with running a given A/C in RA versus GA? I used to be fairly familar with the figures but have lost touch.
13. Hi all, my name is Ben. I started flying GA about 13 years ago but gave it away after about 12 hours (almost solo)... Apart from a few sparodic dual lessons since, I just couldnt justify the cost and lost interest because I couldn't fly as much as I would of liked. I am starting to run out of excuses and have started dusting off the BAK with a view to atleast get the hours to finish my GFPT. Then I think I will decide if I want to continue with GA or go LSA. On one hand I would like to stick with GA so I can take the whole family away for short trips (the 3 of us). Then on the other hand I have always wanted to build my own A/C (plans/kit built) and the reduced costs of owning and operating LSA is appealing!
