However, it seems to me that training and theory training could do with a massive boost Keith.

I am completely befuddled as to the modus operandi, just where is the expansion. The training and theory is getting to be a replica of the GA schools.

The exact reason why AUF was set up, all has all gone only the memories are left.

The little rag and strings are basically history. There are still people about who wish to fly and enjoy these little machines.

Mention 2Stroke now one gets blank stares.

In the Members' Communiques - The CEO didn't renew his contract as he had another job.  The job was advertised.  Maxine, who has worked for RAAus for 20 years and acted as CEO from time to time, was appointed.  Jill Bailey retired - it is a thankless job and she works away from the office a lot.  Her Assistant has stepped up to the job and his job is now advertised.  So - no great conspiracy there.  These things happen in the best of organisations.

    Thank you Sue,

All done very quietly -- no fanfare as most times we hear.

  3. Wondering if anyone has heard what is going on?

The grape vine has been a bit busy.

    Jill Bailey has resigned.

The CEO has resigned and one of the office staff has taken on the roll.

Not sure however someone else could have heard something.

Hmmmmmmmmm....Pushing the compliance and enforcement component will greatly increase the "Catch Me if You Can" factor.

Comes down to simple marketing  strategy , One is better off being friends and offering -- than getting out there with a big stick.

Keith, I'm probably aware of the same information you're aware of; I was not at all happy with the outcome or the way it was achieved, but the constitution certainly provided powers to take action, and that wasn't taken; people didn't stand up when they could have, so technically the members voted as I said. There's not a lot of point chewing it over now, because there aren't a lot of people wanting to change, and more importantly, no really big issues have come up, which in itself is a good thing.

One of the shakers who caused/advised all that - got the heave ho out of another organization, he did not take too kindly at all.

    Evidence, not hearsay thanks.

ONLY direct evidence given by the person who actually saw or heard the incident, counts. All the rest: ‘I was told, did you hear, I heard that, he was actually there and he said to me ‘ is called hearsay.

I used to do this for a living. So no more unless you are in a position to give direct evidence. Then I am happy to hear it.

Didn't you hear the dogs barking?

All that noise would have told you something...as I have moved on am not that overly bothered any more nearly all has slipped my mind. Why linger on shoddy outcomes plenty of other great things to achieve.

However the clear judgement I made at the time will stay with me.

RAA members actually voted for the shift from being an Incorporated Association, to handing administration over to a Company, albeit with directors being voted in by the members.

In the Incorporated Association there was local Executive representation and you could raise an issue like this, and if necessary vote it out, but with the company you don't have that hads on access, and it seems don't get to know what decisions are being made or even what the agenda is.

I beg to differ regarding the RAA members voting regarding transferring into a company.  I have on good authority from a current board member (at the time) this process was not done honestly and I have to agree with him as he gave me a set of of circumstances which did not indicate honesty.

That just mirrors what's happening in the automotive industry these days. On board cameras pick up in bulk any out of date registrations on vehicles using the road.

It remains to be seen whether RAA have set up an electronic compliance system.

    Oi Turbo,

We pay membership for that, this situation simply put we are getting less for what we pay for.

How would you perform if you went to Woolies and they started giving you a kilo short of what you paid for?

Does anyone know the cost to councils of maintaining an ALA, and how many movements they typically have a year? Knowing this would help with working out about costs.

Air strips are a service to the region, hence the rates. A better question, how much revenue dose the strip bring to the district and emergency service like flying doctor and during floods and fire.

    Morning All,

Due to our issues at Lismore (YLIS), and a statement made by the Manager of Commercial services that landing fees are market-based, it has lead me to some questions that I would like to throw out there:

    1) How are airport fees calculated? The obvious answer would be: Cost to run the airport - other income / number of landings....but that does not work out in the real world due to variability of traffic (e.g.: Covid).

    2) Are councils actually calculating what airport fees should be or just simply 'what ever we have * maximum increase we can do'?

    3) Most importantly: What do you thing is a reasonable landing fee from $0 to $15 (per tonne, one tonne minimum)?

    Have a great day!

What are the landing fees for?

We pay tax to have public infrastructures, fuel tax where dose that money go.

So landing fees are a simple case of double taxing.

The government is getting a bit too handy with their taxes.

Just like our income tax a percentage of that tax is supposed to go to an aged pension not any more, not even rescinded.

Simple case of grab at any cost.

    Morning All,

In the Northern Rivers of NSW, we have a situation that is close to every aviators heart: Local council having a go at aviators because we are an easy target.....

ONE aircraft noise winger (Judith Forsyth), who moved to our community about a year ago, has managed to get into the ear of a few councilors and now the whole airport and peoples livelihoods could go up in smoke.

Izaac from Fast Aviation has put out a petition with a very detailed description of what is going on to assist business at Lismore Airport and taking aim at the ridiculous landing fees.

    The link is:

    https://www.change.org/p/lismore-city-council-provide-support-for-businesses-at-lismore-airport?cs_tk=AtkOBv7K2BaJSC_v-mAAAXicyyvNyQEABF8BvEETZtNUdhfVozQxUYWF8so%3D&utm_campaign=0e2a59f104804f9cbfd4c794ee40f289&utm_content=initial_v0_2_0&utm_medium=email&utm_source=recruit_sign_digest&utm_term=cs

If you are unimpressed by the way Lismore City Council is administering the district, or simply sick and tired of the abuse we cop from aircraft noise lobbies,  please consider signing it and passing it on to as many people as you can.

    Andy

The airport was there well before all these do gooders turned up. When they bought there the airport was in full operation.

Hence there before them or the real estate lied o them.

The trouble is Marty not everyone lives in a smallish place in Australia like you do.  For me to drive the 300km  to the farm towing a trailer drop off some gear then head back...can not be done...and some times we dont have any power when we get there due to being on a SWER line...so that dirty coal fired power station up the road is no good to us. I would have to start my diesel generator to try to charge the car long enough for the return trip home.

EV cars are only practical for small travel distances and just carrying passengers...until there is a mega major shift in performance...it wont happen in this country. Most of us travel too far and too wide

    Trucks fit into this category.

Imagine an electric B-Double, Brisbane to Darwin.

OR Is that why there is talk about inland rail?

The manuals are probably completed and signed off and RAA are keeping them under wraps until D Day.  In the meantime they will be writing their ideas of what we must do to comply.
Hopefully the more knowledgeable among us will scour through all and tell us the real story.

That is all OK...CASA is derelict in duty for signing off before all the requirements are not address and compliant.

The manuals must be compliant as a requirement of gaining Part 149. How will the process stack up in an audit?

If there is any other process -- could be a case of supposed non compliance.

  14. I am at a loss how did RAAus get granted Part 149 when their manuals are not completed.

I am of the view all those manual are to be ticked off before Part 149 is granted.

The other missing issue Part 149 is what one is going to do and Part 103 is how one is going to carry out operation.

Now Part 103 is now actually a MOS for Part 149, the goal posts have wheels under them.

The Glider federation paid a lot of money to have their SMS formulated and the goal posts moved on that one.

So happy times. No wonder aviation is going backwards.

  15. I'm happy to accept him moving on, as long as it's not to CASA , taking his inside knowledge with him.

We got a letter from him, but his destination was conspicuous by its absence.

And Turbs, it is very unfair to blame ELAAA for the fact that CASA is stonewalling them. My guess is that they need to go political, but alas there are too few votes in it for most pollies.

    Bruce you 100% correct.

Turbo needs to take a refresher on bureaucrat behaviour and the art of.

    KP

  16. Obviously a company that's looking for MORE bureaucracy, staff, rules and regulation, meetings, fancy position names, contractors, increasing operating costs, fancy web sites and bleeding more money from who ever funds it.......whether it's wanted or not.....

    That prompted my thoughts.

    Brisbane., "Broncos" fit that bill.
