Hi all... i did it... i flew my first solo today just before last light in my Savannah at Wollongong! i cannot begin to tell you all how awesome it was... though i am sure most of you know only to well. thanks so much to my favourite flying instructor Ultralights and and a big thanks to Motzartmerv for doing my pre solo check flight and sending me on my way! I cannot get the ridiculous smile off my face! the solo flight was smooth and although i was nervous i managed to keep the squeals to a minimum and concentrated on my flying. I did let out a little woohoo on the radio after touchdown! just the best feeling ever! dont think i'll be sleeping too much tonight. cant wait to get back out there again! Rach

sat the pre solo exam today and passed with 100%! now its time to get up there and fly by myself! woohoo!

have done many many landings since those first three in a row. wasnt at my best on sunday at Jaspers Brush but was fun trying to land on that narrow strip. will be out there for more practice in the coming weeks. its weird... when i think im ready for solo the next circuits i do make me think im not.

that is awesome Winsor! watching that has got me all excited and nervous! i am about to do my first solo... am ready to go just waiting for the CFI to be available to give me the go ahead. so will hopefully happen next weekend! its so great that you have captured your first solo on camera too! i will try to do the same! well done! thanks Bill. couldnt do it without that fabulous savannah! she's put up with a fair few firm landings and one bounce which Rob says is not too bad going. we are about to start circuit emergencies hopefully next weekend then it will be time for my solo! im putting about four hours per weekend so it may well happen next weekend! so very scared and excited about that at the same time! hope Jen is well. :big_grin: Rach

I am up to 21 recent hours. had previously started to learn many years ago but just didnt have the cash to keep it going. i have done about 12 hours in the circuit now. have got all my radio calls and down wind checks now also. i really felt like i could have flown alone today... first time i have had that feeling. and looking to the end of the runway is slowly becoming a more natural thing to do. its so true what they say... practice, practice and keep having fun! and yes... wollongong is albion park Rach

today it clicked!!! i finally get it! i can fly! i did three hours of circuits today at the oaks and wollongong and i get it! landing at the oaks really helped as its a grass strip which took away the fear factor i have of landing on a big huge concrete runway. after an hour or so at the oaks we flew back to wollongong and i just kept getting better and better and before i knew what was happening i had done 5 unassisted landings in a row and just kept on going. after starting the day feeling that i would never get it... i feel that i am now really on the down hill run to my first solo! i now understand what everyone means by "it will just click"! what a great day! cant wait to go again tomorow!

Hey Stewy. I am about 4 hours ahead of you in the circuit and i completely relate to your post! i am finding that each time i go out i get a little bit better... and get a whiff of success only for it to disappear again the next time i go up. I have decided the best thing to do is just let it happen... keep practicing and wait for the click. its coming.... just cant push it. Have fun out there! Rach

She is so lovely to fly and I am just in love! I can sympathise re the weather and have been thinking you might be missing her! We are flying to moruya tomorrow to show off our new baby. Hi guys, just had to brag that today i landed the Savannah 3 times in a row unaided! i felt that this was never going to happen. and have been elated ever since! after a break i went back out and tried to do the same trick again and failed miserably.... but i hold on to the success i had today and will get back out there tomorrow and go again! for all those newbies out there like me struggling to get the landing.... just remember the way to succeed is to try not to land. happy flying!!!! hey planey! if i could put it in my driveway i would! so very cool! we are keeping it at wollongong for now until we find better accomodation. would love a hangar but too expensive at bankstown and none at wedderburn. so we are making a jacket and goggles for it to keep it warm in the wind and rain. we go get her tomorrow!! so excited!

hey thanks.... almost at 100! i like those rules... just need to get my brain to agree to not make my eyes look at the runway. now i have my own aircraft i'll be doing so many circuits im sure i'll get it soon enough! Rach

Its official! i am a total Savannah convert! no more Jabiru... no more tecnam... its Savannah all the way! woohoo!

i totally agree about the outer beauty.... but they are really starting to grow on me... on way to look at one this weekend... lets hope theres some inner beauty there!
