If he was released at 4,500 ft , then he had ample altitude to make a few sorties back and forth trying to sniff out some lift, before the sink / lift instrument buzzing its head off in a continuous deafening squeal Indicating nothing but Sink for his efforts, would of caught his attention. He should have proximate d himself over the Strip well before dropping below the height of the Ridge. That was his downfall (literally) , But all said and done , once he realized his predicament , as a student, He's done very well under pressure to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear in IMO. As they always said in WW1 , any landing you walk away from is a good landing.

Well Nich , We all Enjoy immensely Our time in the Hangers all over OZ chin wagging with like minded people and Pilots , Bouncing Ideas off one another and describing past flight experiences, all wile tweaking and performing Maintenance on our Birds, all a prelude to throwing open those Bomb Bay doors and committing Aviation ! Maybe the "War Minister" ,when introduced to this Recreational Pursuit surely will see the merits to both your Lives, and help you convince her altar ego, the "Finance Minister" to part with the Budget and encourage you to follow your Dreams ! Then were woken, to find Of course this all takes place in an alternate Reality, to a different luckier Nich lol !! So if all else Fails Mate just Sneak out , Our Mistresses are more Understanding, They don't judge us ! HiWe - me being a member :-) at RNAC have a trike that can be wet hired on an hourly basis similar to what you can normally do for a 3 axis machine.

I think maybe the first in Oz.

 

May not be exactly what you need but rates are very reasonable - approx $60/hr plus fuel levy.

 

At present it is only available to be flow out of Rutherford ( Maitland / Newcastle area)

 

It is a very low hr edgeX 582 machine with streak 2b wing.

 

You need to be HGFA and a check flight is required.

Hello,I'm looking at buying a trike and I have a bit of a dilemma as to what radio and headsets to get for it?

Is it worth going with the Microair and Lynx from Airborne?

 

From looking at the Vertex 220 radio for example it seems to have really small buttons, which may be a bit hard to operate in the trike.

 

I've seen the headset discussions in other parts of this forum, but they mostly relate to GA headsets.

 

So I'd appreciate any advice about the headsets and radios that you use.

G'Day Glen, Long time Mate. Well the Ridge hasn't Dried Up yet, We Still have five Lakes Visible in the close proximity of Town. Get up to 1500ft , look around to your North and out to the west, and there's Water all around and Beneath you. A set of Pontoons would be very handy now, I could go Fishing more often ! Your old Trike is enjoying its new Life in the Picturesc surroundings of the Coocaron and Hebel Lakes of the Big North West. The Landings at the Ridge can be Challenging at times Cos of its Position on top of the hill, That goes for both strips,so if there's any wind at all from what ever direction, you cop Rotors as it comes up and then over , The best is to drop in and touch down right up at the top, level with the Wind sock, For rwy 10 that is. Once again Mate, sorry I missed your Visit earlier this year.... But N.Z. was very Pretty, and I had the Bonus to do some Gliding while I was over there.. The old skills are not so rusty after all. i have heard through the grape vine that airborne will soon stop building the classic as the rotax 2stroke is an endangered spieies.i believe that the red back is as good as finished as well.

Hoping to get some advice on an issue I have noticed with my 2003 270hrs Airborne Classic with Streak 2 wing.I bought this aircraft at 190hrs and for the first 50 hrs found the wing and aircraft to fly very true and straight. After some particularly advanced and turbulent flying conducted in Townsville I started to notice a minor yaw/twist motion with the control bar -i.e my right hand position felt and looked like it was closer to my chest then the left and did not look perpendicular to the front mast brace and pod. This was more exaggerated on full power on takeoff. What I have also noticed is the aircraft wing has a very slight/mild right turn now and the right wire wire running from the control bar to the keel seems looser then the right. Inspection of the airframe does not indicate any major bends or twists but I have not done any in depth measurements or testing as I don't have the knowledge or procedure to do.

I am really hoping some one may have already experienced this issue and maybe able to send me in the right direction. The aircraft remains safe for flight but i would really like to know what has happened and a way ahead.

At the risk of having projectiles aimed at my head, I'd like to know what's involved in converting from a WSM license (HGFA) to a 3-axis license.A bit of history:About 15 years ago, I did about 15 hours in a Lightwing taildragger. I never finished the license, but still have my logbook. I now have a WSM license with endorsements for radio, pax, and cross country. I also have a 3-axis flight simulator at home which I regularly fly so that I don't become too mono-focussed with the trike. Yes, the sim IS based on MS Flightsim, but it is a full cockpit with working instruments and radios.

 

Any advice here, especially from any instructors reading this would be most welcome.
