  1. Hi Matt,

Pouring from a normal 20ltr container into a funnel even up high on a ladder I had numerous spills and getting a bit of seepage around the Savannah fuel cap area and the inside wing section being open to the cabin create a strong fuel smell which was giving me the shits, especially when your about to go flying.

So thought there's gotta be a better way and there is 020_yes.gif.58d361886eb042a872e78a875908e414.gif

I got 1 20ltr and 2 10ltrs Tuff jug so can fill 40ltrs at a time. The TJ nozzles are design to fill farm bikes etc so easily fits inside the Savannah fuel inlet hole and so sits on the lip hole with the draining bit inside and u just let the weight of the fuel push down which opens up the nozzle and so you don't have to hold the weight of the container.

Once the fuel reaches up to the nozzle it stops air getting into the container so the fuel stops flowing and you just lift it off and it's really that easy and can highly recommend these TJ.

I have been using them for about 10 months and have never had a drop spilt, the 10ltrs are easy to lift and if you find the 20ltr a bit of a struggle a small ladder would definitely help.

I don't bother filtering the fuel but others will have other ideas I'm sure.

    Cheers Guy.

  2. Any helpful hints on how to install the lexan cover for the landing lights? Thanks!

The Lexan tabs goes inside the outer housing, if you cleco the Lexan you'll see how it shapes the front to suit the wing,

  3. I can't really answer that for you Bob,

I guess it's a case of putting the petals back and having the seat right back or having the petals in the forward position and having the seat forward a touch and if you got taller passengers they won't be so cramp for leg room.

Maybe someone of similar height to you can answer your question.

  4. I've found the adjustable seats comfortable and very easy to take the seat out if you want to get them recovered or get into the underseat man hole is great and being able to adjust for leg room if needed for different people heights.

I really don't know what the downside would be unless your 6ft3" or taller, a little extra weight maybe but my Sav came in at 307 kgs so still can carry full fuel and luggage with 2 85 kgs blokes.

I like to know what reasons people are down on the adjustable seats ?

  5. I did the same as Mark and took the Lexan to a tinting mob about a year ago and no problems with it.

I got a Tint film that blocks out most of the UV as well and works a treat.

  6. Pretty sad to hear this and Rick will be sadly missed in the Recreational aviation circles and his wealth of knowledge especially when it comes to Savannah's and his willingness to help.

My Condolences to Rick's family and friends.

  7. Hi Guy. My son lives in Grafton and he sent me a picture of the Lismore Subway outlet half under water. My brother's in laws also live in Lismore but on higher ground. That flooding is pretty devastating.I am so glad that your Savannah didn't come to grief!

Me to Hank and yes Lismore CBD cop it bad and the surrounding area with many Business still haven't reopen and whether they will remains to be seen.

  8. Question for XL and S builders: I'm looking at the SS assemblies that bolt into the ends of the undercarriage tunnel (to clamp the undercarriage and take the ends of the struts). At present, it would be impossible to line up the bolt holes to the fuselage side skin without some major modification of the tunnel shape.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for fitting these?

    Thanks.

I had exactly the same problem and posted what you posted and was told by the guru to get brutal so I did, eventually I got it to fit but Crikey it wasn't easy and a few times I had to walked away for a day to recollect Lol and then come back to it to persevere. I used large multi grips with a hollow pipe on the handle to get leverage and twisted the SS to get the holes to line up.

It was doable but Crikey and good luck 001_smile.gif.2cb759f06c4678ed4757932a99c02fa0.gif

  9. What a nice gesture JG and I have your number in my ph just in case but not planning on using it for that Lol. I sent you a email which did lack a little finer detail I know on a trip I'm planning out to Marree and many thanks for your kind reply and info and have taken it onboard, We still have a few months before we head off but will ring you closer to the trip to pick your brains.

    Cheers Guy.

  10. Thanks IBob and FIL65 and the aerodromes going ok with Hanger owners and help from friends getting into it making a dent in the clean up Kevin. Manage a quick fly in between showers today over Lismore and Crikey what a bloody mess and a very daunting.

  11. As many of you know about the very recent floods and I just thought I would post my saga.

After sitting at home idle for most of thursday Me and the missus decided to go for a spin into Lismore to check the river height. As we drove over Ballina bridge I thought to myself yea it's up a bit but no real drama after all they have forecast floods for lismore roughly 5 times over the last couple of years which never happened so mmm into town for a quick bite in the CBD. We wander for a bit and sensing a funny mood in the people we came across and spoke to. Some were just working casually like nothing was going to happen and others were acting like a little weird like, like they weren't sure what was going to happen or what to do but standing around all jittery like.

While taking in the vibe of the town all of a sudden I realize shit was going to get real and said to my wife we gotta get home to get the car trailer which had a drift car on it with a flat battery and of cause I'm not thinking clearly like because I had gone into panic mode so it took an hour to get it off. Then we raced back to the hanger and had a mammoth job getting the Sav uphill onto the trailer and having to hold the nose wheel up cause there's only air underneath, (car trailer) didn't think to grab a long plank to run up the middle for the nose wheel but things were happening fast, rain and rising water levels and hard yakka trying to drag it up bit by bit. Sandra (wife) couldn't understand how I didn't do a hernia.

Put the plane back into the hanger and sent my wife home with my sons as the water was starting creeping into the hangers. i thought i'd stay and help out other fellow aviators to get their planes to a high ground (The mound that was put in by the council after the 74 floods) which you can see in the aerial photo. Most people managed to get their planes onto the mound, but some people were either cut off and couldn't get to the aeroclub or were dealing with other flood drama.Once the water started coming up, it came up very quickly and some planes went under.

By 10pm when we got things sorted, well sort of, a handful of us got stranded at the club and I ended up sleeping at the Lismore aeroclub with Wally Soward, the club president, only to be woken up at 1.30am with the flood waters getting higher and making things interesting. We spent the rest of the night getting everything in the clubhouse up high.

Always in the back of my mind was the Blue Budgie and hoping, next morning on day break I waded up the hanger to find the car trailer under water but it had done the trick and saved my dream machine.

Have never experienced being in floods before and the clean up is a little daunting but it's surprising how people can come out of the woodwork to help out.
