  1. A coroner's inquiry is substantially to identify any 3rd person's probable culpability regarding a death. This case, as so many others, can only find that responsibility lies solely with the pic. Training can only point the pilot in a direction. Decisions are always subject to irrationality. This man was mature age and had a history of operation in risk prone activity. A leopard cannot change his coat.

Hopefully no further restrictions will be levied on us arising from the palpably stupid actions of one 'pilot'.

  2. Luckily, the pilot, no spring  chicken, was only a little shaken & bruised. Really unfortunate that he didn't quite make tha strip but airplanes are dispensable, we're not!

  3. To Area 51, see my post on Thurs. I flew VW as did Markdun  for years. I was attempting diplomacy (yeah, foolish I know). Never works, pistols at 10 paces, I bags second!

  4. Hey! Just another forum. Nothing is 'gospel, nor 'truth. Opinions are matters for judgement. Each engine has its adherents or even 'fanboys. Never going to resolve questions of faith. I flew for 550 hrs behind a VW  conversion, fancy that.

No, Dick's Gundaroo strip is about 15nm north of Canberra.  Williamsdale is about 20nm to the south.

Neither of these are available to transient aircraft. There is also a strip mat Lanyon, 10km to the s/w of Tuggeranong town center but I don't like the chances of getting permission for this one either

we as Aussies praise the stuff made in Europe (which by the way have just as many issues as everything else)

Was in Tumut this weekend. Lying forlornly in the field 300m north of 35's threshold was a Foxbat. It had declared an oil pressure related engine failure. Rotax 9 series engine I would suppose. So, they  don't all run like the veritable Swiss watch. I'm certainly not attempting to bad mouth the pilot who suffered a little physical shaking but otherwise unharmed. Any engine can fail. Don

  8. The Kitfox 1 we owned was equipped with flaperons. I quickly learned never to activate the 'flap' feature on this plane. Roll control suffered to a frightening extent and it was never necessary to modify the final approach path anyway. It virtually landed itself in normal into wind conditions.
