  1. Well what a difference 72 hours makes. Got back to Aus from NZ and spoke to some people in the know and also rang lots of people who have had experience with conversion or trying to convert. I cant say everything because it would be unfair to do so as some things we where told we where told in confidence. But to cut a very long story short. We spoke with about 8 people who have done or tried to do conversions and the news is not as rosy as you might first think. Yes there are happy campers out there, but in short, they didnt get there quickly, cheaply or within the boundaries of what we are prepared to go thru.

So we have aborted the mission. Im shattered as a Jab powered by a 912is in my mind would be an amazing aircraft. But its in my opinion not achievable yet, within the time or money limits i can put into it. If i was rego 19 and doing it myself , i think i would still do it.

Anyhow live and learn, stumble or fall over get up and move on with a smile.

Dr Z you give up easy. Not such a difficult conversion. Perhaps you should come and have a look (and fly) of mine. Pm me to know more. Tom

  2. Hi all, has anyone flown their skyfox/gazelle without the rudder springs on the pedals or the aileron centering springs, the reason I ask is I have a problem flying straight and level and keeping the ball centered, it won't fly "feet off" and after a couple of hours it gets very tiring to have to keep weight on the pedals, unless there's a rigging problem I might be able to tune out of it, cheers Matty

Hi MM yes my skyfox doesn't have the aileron centring springs. I did not know it was meant to have them till somebody else mentioned it to me a couple of weeks ago. They have never been on there since I bought it 2nd hand not long ago. Tom

  3. Can a vh registered jab 430 be converted to rotax 912 uls and still have 700 kg mtow?If not can it be done and swapped to raaus rego and if so into which class and what mtow?

Is the 430 experimental? If so yes it can be done but will require another final inspection and reissue airworthiness certificate. Ok for 700kg. If you want RAAus it will become a 2 sestet Mtow 544kg I believe. If it has been factory built then I do not think it can be changed. Tom

  4. Hey thanks that is so much better :) Tom

I have moved the Back To Top button to the very bottom right corner (10 pixels from the right side and 5 pixels up from the bottom)...that's the best I can do however if anyone prefers it back to where it was then please advise...it was higher before as it interfered with the Instant Chat bar which has been removed now

  5. Yes using iPhone. If it was in the corner ok but it sits part way up the page. Just very annoying. Tom

You must have only been using a small mobile device to view the site over the last 4 and a bit months...it helps to give more detail so I know what you may be talking about...but the "Go To Top" button HAS been on the site since April, just over 4 months ago, however on small mobile devices (i.e. not ipad) then you were seeing a non-responsive cut down version of the site with a lot of features removed, but now small mobile devices use the new industry standard of "Responsive Design" which the site is now developed in so you can access everything the site has to offer on a small mobile device but in an easy compact way

  6. I reckon people are reading the market incorrectly here... If Recreational Flying is to become a truly popular past time/hobby for the larger audience including younger people (rather then only the self funded retiree/highly paid executive/miner etc etc as most are who fly now...lets face it) then these sort of machines if certified for hire from schools could have a real future... I reckon what you want is a sub $40K fly away price to make them economical to hire at say $80 per hour...single seat and suitable for fledgling pilots ...20 hours dual should see most students in a single seater doing a circuits and building experience ... I think there is a huge untapped market out there waiting to be exploited...

I agree with you 100%. I plan to build a single seat aircraft for less than $10,000 using all new materials. Tom

I like to be a little different and fitted rotax 914 to the j400 I was building. Very happy with it. Take off and climb performance better than standard jab. Cruise 115. @ 17lt/hr. Come and have a look at Narromine if you get a chance. Tom

  8. Another point about Natfly, for me, the exhibitors are not the main attraction rather the comraderie and talking to other builders etc. I am not sure how this can be achieved physically at Temora but I am sure things can be rearranged to bring the whole thing closer in. I suggest studying the aerodrome plan and look at different arrangements to try and make it work better. Tom

  9. I believe that one reason Temora is not as popular is it is just too spread out. At Narromine the planes and exhibitors were all there together and one could walk around and talk to other builders etc. having planes parked tail to tail puts a lot more aircraft in a smaller area. I did never get around to catch a bus to look at some planes at Temora. It really does not create the atmosphere like Narromine had. My 2 cents worth. Tom
