  1. Bird strike with a vengeance . . . but there's a thought, now - could we use drones to chase the 'roos off? They don't take any notice of the wedge-tailed eagles that have a nest on our place, within a couple of hundred metres of the airstrip. Drones with whistles? And if we did, would that satisfy the duty of care? Maybe we should stipulate that all aircraft using the strip must be equipped with whistles and air-horns (all that would be missing is the bells). Or paint a large kangaroo sign on the ground (but don't make it look like the QANTAS emblem, or who knows what might happen . . .)

Drones with motion sensors to detect animals programmed to automatically patrol airstrips .

    What a great idea Dafydd

  2. Yea , i think your right there ,

Ive got a couple of concepts on the drg. Board for all electric single seater ,

and the avocet has the potential to be a hybrid , ( plenty of room ) but i dont think it'll get into RAA ,

mtow 750 kgs , unless the batteries become lighter .

Ive been waiting with anticipation for the batt technology to catch up with ambition !

    Cheers mike

  3. I found c/ tex 98 has a lot of aromatics and it made my fuel lines soft !

95 still has aromatics but not as much .

I can smell the fuel through the pirtec fuel lines on the multipoint SDS

But on the rotec TBI the red silicon lines are ok .

  4. Mike. Why would the battery pack have to be changed by "suitably qualified folks"? You work for CASA? Simple slide out slid in packs will do the job, take all of two minutes. For cross country I'd go the electric diesel route. Small diesel generator running the show with a smaller battery pack.

I hope thats the case ,

And no , CASA works for me !

Yes i recon hybrid is the way to go , but ill be surprised if you'll get all of that ,for 600 kgs mtow

    Mike .

  5. I carnt help it , or remain silent any longer .

Every time i read the name Gandalf ,

    I. Keep seeing this long haired pipe smokin dood

Its what ring he's the lord of. Lol

But as you've let slip , you bust long haired pipe smokers .

Keep up the good work .

    Cheers mike

  6. If I could find a school that wanted to put one online, I would invest in one. Three or four battery packs and a row of solar panels on the hanger roof. And as for xcountry, its not there yet but a couple of spare battery packs and you have four and a half hours, it is well on its way and certainly a step in the right direction. Remember the aircraft it is based on is extremely fuel efficent by most standarsd and has a glide ratio better than almost all of the competition.Cheers Geoff13

I think that changing battery packs would have to done by suitably qualified folk , i don't think it would be like changing batteries in a flash light !

    Cheers mike

  7. Seems to me that this is just another microcosm of whats already going on in the rest of the world .

. "Everybody thinks there right in there own eyes "

    ( no where have i red that , script & verse ) no matter how-smart , educated , dumb , or stupid .

  8. EU$100KThere are billions going into developing a battery that can get a 4 passenger car 300 miles and recharge within an hour. Its almost there

It will still be about the weight of the battery's , Are those billions going towards light weight alternatives ? I hope so .

Exciting times on the electric horizon . .

  9. I get depressed recalling all the roos , emu's we've hit since we moved to sa ,

3 cars one 4 wd written off , insured yes , inconvenience big time !!!

Some locals sit on 130+ to avoid , as Dafydd has said .

Ive found slowing down gives more time to stop or avoid and since then have had few probs .

Good bull bars , side steps . And good high powered spot lights turned slightly out gives the best chance .

Other than culling , which you need a permit , or fencing , theres

not a lot you can do around airstrips other than keep a good lookout .

    Mike .
