  1. Not a problem, don't fly into airports that charge landing fees.  A number of airports are now moving towards demanding 24 hour prior notice (c/w Credit card details) from RAA pilots.  This is an outrageous imposition.  Release of details to AvData will mitigate this.

And have you dealt with AVdata?

A totally corrupt private organisation. No likelihood your information will be safe, much Lee's charged accurately. A landing fee is between you and the organisation charging it. If you feel like this, pay the airfield operator direct. Don't give AVdata a 30 plus percent fee.

  2. Welcome Joe! Unfortunately you won't get away from CASA by marrying the daughter RAA! However the exemptions do give us some freedoms. We have a RANS S7 Courier (home built from a kit) and love it. I did my conversion from C152 to ultralights in a Lightwing and we are looking at doing an airstrip at home. There's plenty on establishing your own airstrip on this forum. Depends a lot on your local Council. What are you flying now?

  3. New movement for #aviation New England by-election

    New England by-election

    Found this material today.

Barnaby Joyce has a worthy adversary who is putting aviation front and centre.

We should forget about politics in this and get behind the principle of what aviation needs and get it in front of as many Journo's that we can.

An opportunity for change and proper publicity

  4. These are sad events and condolences to the families.

As mentioned, there are what appear similar occurrences with an EFATO [Engine Failure After Takeoff] over the years.

The Brasillia #atsb report called for these ops to be done in a simulator. The PA30 far example, had a recent occurrence at Camden at airport elevation, yet the AFM calls for a hard deck of 3500FT AGL for these types of OPS.

Also there have been some reported instances with the Metro where #casa FOI's called for stick shakers to be disengaged for the pilot to demonstrate stall recovery. This occurred in the Sydney basin and the aircraft only just managed to be recovered. In Holland, a similar exercise was at 10,000FT. The aircraft could not be recovered and span into the sea with a forward speed of around 30KTS.

Flying at the insistence and at against the AFM specifications is usually fatal.

    .

    Just saying

  5. Then you get the use of unsubstantiated videos, such as the John Quadrio case, where a known criminal with a 7-page rap sheet, was used by #casa to "convict" John in the AAT. This video was given to the Federal Police" expert, but in a low resolution form where details such as a flock of birds in the vicinity could not be seen.

The CDPP [Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions] had abandoned the case in the Federal Court and like other cases #casa kept pursuing John through the AAT with a "show cause" notice.

#casa will not discuss new evidence that turned up after the lapse of a time to appeal the AAT decision.

  6. More spin from #casa and Carmody -

#casa still has not come to terms with actual pilot numbers and quotes over 40,000.

My last estimate, from #casa numbers gives < 20,000.

#atsb gave an address which does not come to terms with slowness of reports and the gross inaccuracies in them eg. Dromader, Albury, Pelair and on and on.

Airservices could not explain away the ADSB controversy or the loss of staff or movement of costs to the GA sector.

  7. Have seen this, but Carmody is working to negate all forward movement for the industry.

The Skidmore "stakeholder engagement officer" Robert Walker has continued under Carmody. Their attitude, as shown in the 27th February 2017 Senate estimates shows contempt for the Senators and their positive direction for aviation.

The last #casa missive shows a "toning down" of attitude and even a speed up in processing of #avmed applications.

But is this just an apparition or is it real??

There has been no change in staff or removal of key obstructions within #casa. Until this happens, there will be no change.

At the Avalon air show Carmody spoke, but there is no indication of of anything but a negative attitude towards aviation participants.

Summary - Just more spin and lies.

PS: Same from #atsb [Hood] and Airservices [Jason Harefield]

  8. they were very lucky to survive that.

Yes, they were, but the Nurse Karen Casey was badly injured and #atsb, #casa, Truss and the Department [#mrdak] all have avoided her questions as an "...unknowing #aviation participant....". Karen has had her damages judgement appealed in the NSW Supreme Court to be heard next week.

Maybe, CP, we should be working towards no fault #aviation insurance as it took eight years in the Lockhart River loss of 15 lives for the insurance payout.

  9. Well Keith, the Jabiru issue starts and finishes at Jonathon Aleck. He signed the Jabiru Instrument and he, at the time, was in charge of all things light aviation - Gliders, Experimental, RAAus etc

And Aleck did not get the relieving gig to replace Skidmore when he backed his bag and left #casa.

    [Some history on Skidmore]

    WHY??

Where did the advice come from for the Jabiru issue, when the statistics used were quite false and misleading??

Down the line "advisers" of course. And who would have been the principle one??, the ex-ceo of RAAUS.

What influence did he yield can be asked, together with, why was he so hard on Jabiru??

    I leave that for others.
