  1. Pavarotti passes away and heads to heaven. He knocks on the pearly gates St Peter opens them and says ' Oh it's you Luciano, come on in. Squeeze through'. Pavarotti says ' Hold on, I 've got an envelope for you, from the Pope.' St Peter opens it up and reads it............. Dear St Peter, 'HERE'S THAT TENOR I OWE YOU'
  2. Darren, I agree to a certain extent and plead guilty to posting the Steve Fossett article on the site. But in my defence look at the time it was posted ... So therefore plead a major bout of non awakeness :;)6::;)6:.zzzzzzzzzzzzz and had I thought a bit more would have posted on another site. On the crash side surely an international incident involving RA or ultralight / home built craft pertains to all of us. Although some are down right stupid and many sensationalised (if thats a word) are excellent examples of what not to do. Many of us have a major love but limited experience in the world of avaition, we cringe in horror at the accidents, shake our head at the stupidity and feel for the tragic loss of good people, but it reminds us and constantly installs in our psyche how careful and ever alert we must be in this amazing sport.
  3. Hey this might be a bit niave but what about the good old electric blanket? Has all the safety fetures built in, safe enough to put over you and your kids and will not overheat or "bubble anything.. and economical..Just a thought .
  4. FAA: Adventurer Fossett's Plane Missing By SCOTT SONNER – 18 minutes ago RENO, Nev. (AP)  Teams searched rugged terrain Tuesday for a plane carrying aviation adventurer Steve Fossett, the first person to circle the world solo in a balloon, a day after the plane vanished, federal officials said. Fossett took off in the single engine Bellanca at 8:45 a.m. Monday at a private airstrip on a ranch south of Smith Valley in western Nevada and didn't return as scheduled. A friend reported him missing, said Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman in Maryland. "The Civil Air Patrol is looking for him. One problem is he doesn't appear to have filed a flight plan," Gregor said. The search for the millionaire entrepreneur was being coordinated by the Air Force's Rescue Coordination Center in Langley, Va., Gregor said. "They are working on some leads, but they don't know where he is right now," Gregor said. In 2002, Fossett became the first person to fly around the world alone in a balloon. In two weeks, his balloon flew 19,428.6 miles around the Southern Hemisphere. The record came after five previous attempts  some of them spectacular and frightening failures. Three years later, in March 2005, he became the first person to fly a plane solo around the world without refueling. He and a co-pilot also claim to have set a world glider altitude record of 50,671 feet during a flight in August over the Andes Mountains. Fossett, a Stanford University graduate with a master's degree from Washington University in St. Louis, came to Chicago to work in the securities business and ultimately founded his own firm, Marathon Securities. The 63-year-old has climbed some of the world's tallest peaks, including the Matterhorn in Switzerland and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He also swam the English Channel in 1985, placed 47th in the Iditarod dog sled race in 1992 and participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans car race in 1996. In 1995, Fossett became the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean in a balloon, landing in Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada. Fossett, of Beaver Creek, Colo., was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in July. He told a crowd gathered at the Dayton Convention Center in Ohio that he would continue flying. "I'm hoping you didn't give me this award because you think my career is complete, because I'm not done," Fossett said. Fossett said he planned to go to Argentina in November in an effort to break a glider record.
  5. Wepons, ultralight !!! its the jet wash I'd fear most !! can you imajine what the blast is going to do to my windscreen (or poor excuse for one) let alone my face sitting perched out the front of the drifter when that thing roars past at 400 kts just to check me out!!!

  12. A guy sitting at a bar at Adelaide noticed a really beautiful woman sitting next to him. He thought to himself: "Wow, she's so gorgeous she must be an off duty flight attendant. But which airline does she work for?" Hoping to pick her up, he leaned towards her and uttered the Delta slogan: "Love to fly and it shows?" She gave him a blank, confused stare and he immediately thought to himself: "Damn, she doesn't work for Delta." A moment later, another slogan popped into his head. He leaned towards her again, "Something special in the air?" She gave him the same confused look. He mentally kicked himself, and scratched Singapore Airlines off the list. Next he tried the Thai Airways slogan: "Smooth as Silk." This time the woman turned on him, "What the f *** do you want?" The man smiled, then slumped back in his chair, and said "Ahhhhh, Jet Star.
  13. A bloke's wife goes missing when holidaying on the Barrier Reef while they were out scuba diving. When he can't find her, he reports it to the police and spends the night wondering what could have happened to her. Next morning, there's a knock at the motel door and he is confronted by a couple of policemen, a tough old Sarge and a younger Constable. The Sarge says, "Mate, we have some news for you; unfortunately some really bad news, but some good news and maybe some really good news." "Well," says the bloke, "I guess I'd better have the bad news first. " The Sarge says, "I'm really sorry pal, but your wife is dead. Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms down in a little cleft in the Reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was dead." The bloke is naturally pretty distressed to hear of this and has a bit of a sob. The two coppers wait patiently at the door, looking suitably solemn. After a few minutes, he pulls himself together and asks what the good news is. The Sarge says, "Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized crays and a swag of nice muddies attached to her wetsuit, so we've brought you your share." He hands the bloke a sugar bag with a couple of nice sized crays and four or five mudcrabs in it. "Geez thanks, mate. They're bloody beauties. I guess it's an ill wind and all that ... Now, what's the really good news?" "Well," the Sarge says, "me and young Bill here get off duty around 11 o'clock and we're gonna shoot over there and pull her up again! You fancy grabbin' some stubbies and comin' with us?"
  14. Hey Kevin, Welcome . I think the schools you mentioned are the closest availble to you. As far as I'm aware the Rocky ones are only GA training. I'm having the same problem myself and have decided to go to a school that uses an aircraft like mine and do a block sitting.

    Hey

Hey guys i've just joined and still finding my feet (or should that be wings). I'm reviving an early driter with a dual ignition 503 pull start and an amazing amount of tolerence from Wayne Fisher (genuflect here) and Floods. Started it for the first time yesterday... Awesome, still smiling  Ran like a charm after 6 yrs. Question... uneven rev drop on the mags, No 1 drops 100-150 rpm , No2 drops 250 rpm??? is this normal ? if not any ideas? Regards Jordy
  18. Hey guys, I've been sitting on the side for a while and thought i'd make my self known. Very impressed with the friendliness, quality of discussion and overall good vibe on the site. Haven't flown for a while, life and business got in the way. At the moment i'm flat out reviving an early drifter found under a tree and loving it. We live in a piece of rain forest paradise on the central Qld coast with our own 850 mt grass strip. fell free to drop in, we have loads of accomadation. Regards Jordy
