  1. Living in the sub tropics we manage to attract an amazing array of varmits into protected area (sheds, hangers, planes) including a great influx of carpet snakes. I've had the odd marsupial rat jump out while taxiing and wondered at the time if a rat can get in the pan what about the the thing that eats him??.......... Try taking off with this in the fore front of your mind. So it goes with out saying that most engine warm ups now are exceeding long hoping to shake the sh......t out of anything that might bite.
  2. Over flew a neighbourly strip a while ago with wires a couple of hundred off the end and notiiced he had painted the power poles white with a couple of stripes at the top... Amazingly effective !! Stood out like the proverbial dogs b....s.
  3. Yeah,........ kinda gets you when those big wings start moving so gracefully and its then something stirs and we remember what its all about................:)
  4. Thanks guys, Frank I know we spoke of this some time ago privately and have tried some of the ideas you suggested with great success. 99% of my landings are glide approaches at different air speeds (safe ones) and 50kts seem to be the optimum, for me in my particular machine. Obviously varying for changed conditions. I basically have the question as David ... does the machine windmill ( not I guess after a siezure) and how does it affect the speed/glide?

  6. Thanks Tomo, But.....................pull start !
  7. Hey guys, The question is has anybody had an engine out in a Drifter? If so what was the handling like? Glide speed and attitude and also the reason for the outage? I, like most of us plan for the event whilst flying at all times but (touch wood) it has not happened so i was trying to gauge a likely response. i_dunno Regards Jordy
  8. Fly it I have to agree with you Thommo, amazing little aircraft infact far better than I had ever anticipated. The low stall speed and handling was very......very impressive. Thats my boof head in your first 2 photos, 190 cms and 105 kgs in perfect comfort. And with Tims first flight pretty close to MTOW. To any one one who doubts the some claims made here in this thread......fly it! This is a well built, sweet handling, pretty little aircraft and would have to be the best bang for your buck on the market. The only problem i had with plane was the spanner its thrown in my my financial works.
  9. Heon, was speaking to Wayne on Fri, said that your new drifter was amazing......one of the best yet........ Just thought I'd let you know I'm very jealous
  10. Just what everybody needs............a pretty girl to wheel your wings off!!! Interesting aircraft as well. Experimental Aircraft - 1952Newsreel Footage From 'wingless' To - Video#

    Drifter Bits

Hey whats the go drifter gang? No posts for 5 mths? Surely not everybody is parked up./....... I'm looking for the engine mouting bracket so I can convert the 503 to 582. I have arranged the stay conversion (pan to post) from wires to stay bars with Wayne Fisher but need the rest of the set up. Any thoughts?
  14. I spoke to a couple of dealers in the States last night and can have any amount of Video's but none seems to carry a DVD version so i might have to see what I can arrange with you thanks Phil.
  15. 196 video I spoke to Garmin Aust today and was informed that they used to carry it but don't stock the item any more. :faint:They advised me to source it via Garmin USA. I found the Part or stock number 010-10467-00 and have noticed it readily available on numerous sites and hopefully tonight will find out if its available on DVD to save the USA-Aust video conversion dramas. Might be a good one for Clear Prop. Will keep you informed.
  16. Positive..the guy in the intro even says he works for Garmin flying the country (USA) demonstrating the unit... Amazing Vid.. anyway I have put other wheels in motion to track it down. The copy I saw was pretty poor quality and probably not worth transfering to DVD
  17. Hey guys I've just bought a Garmin 196 and love it. I friend loaned me an old training video for the unit which runs through the extensive capabilities of the 196. Does any one know where I can get hold of a DVD of this information?
  18. Hey guys this might sound like a basic question but....... is it ok to ground run an engine ( In this case a 582 in a drifter) without a prop and if so are there any precautions.
