  1. I would like to see something for the Xbox 360. I have tried PC based sims, and don't really like sitting in front of the computer any more than I have to, and don't really want to have to buy a bunch of gear (because using the keyboard sucks). Now, if you have ever played (eg) Forza Motorsport III, you will know that they are more than capable of terrific graphics and simulating every aspect of a wide range of cars/tracks/etc. So it can be done.

    Thoughts?

  2. Yeah same here.. .time and money... and WEATHER! They always somehow seem to be mutually exclusive - any time i actually do have the time and money, the weather is horrible. Great weather and lots of time? Yup... broke. so I find my lessons can sometimes have a month or 2 in between. I started this in August of 11 and am only up to 5 hours :-(

I would say the next biggest challenge is consistency of information. It seems, at least in RA, that there are a few "grey areas" on certain things.. for example the Radio Exam. Come to think of it I'll start a different thread for that. I Have Questions.

  3. Verrrrry nice OME....

Sold my bike before I moved to Oz, Yamaha Vstar 1100. It was OK but not my favourite... did the job. I would say that honour would have to go to my black Triumph Thunderbird... loved that bike. So many others, but that one sticks out. I rode a Harley from Alice to Darwin once, that was an amazing experience - Heritage Softail I believe??

Anyway, if I were to get another bike, I might like to try one of those monster BMW GS enduro bikes like Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman rode in Long Way Down. But, I think at this point I'm more likely to want to buy an RA aeroplane!

Beautiful pics here, let's see more!

  4. Neil - sounds great, that is definitely part of the plan! There is a book I have seen that lists all the rural and unregistered aerodromes, is that a good place to start just for impromptu camping trips?

Gnome - its at the Sydney Jabiru flight school in Bankstown. They have that and a couple of Jabs. I didn't realise Maton made electrics! Shows what I know..> augie.gif.8d680d8e3ee1cb0d5cda5fa6ccce3b35.gif

J170, I believe so. The idea was it could remain airborne for a long time if necessary, so I am sure there were a number of stations for that. At the time we weren't really made privy to and details, and what I may have known at the time I have since forgotten haha

Again thanks all for the welcomes! At the moment I have been studying for the Radio exam, which I understand is required before first solo. That's probably a ways off, but I'll feel like I am making progress if I can at least tick a few boxes. Probably search the forum here later on to see if anyone has any tips on that one. I understand it all, but jeez its dry!

  5. Hi Adam, i went to Lincoln Ne last year for the airshow and there where a bunch of ec135s, those are the refuelers yes?

hey Fly, yup they did refueling and had a massive great antenna spool on the belly which was let out in flight for Airborne Command and Control. Super-duper low frequency, something like a 5 mile long antenna. Kind of pre-AWACs if memory serves. Love those 707s though, kinda miss em...

and, Alan - yup that's the plan! :D

  6. G'day, just joining up. I am just beginning (5 hours in) my progress towards my RA-Aus license, and found this great site. Look forward to sponging as much info as I can, and one day hopefully being able to share some myself!

A bit about myself, I am living in Wentworthville NSW after moving here from the US a year and a half ago. I actually have my Oz citizenship as well. I served as a Crew Chief in the US Air Force on EC135 (b707) aircraft, but that was over 20 years ago and I am just now rediscovering my fascination with Aviation. I am learning in a sweet little Tecnam low-wing p96, but think i would like a KR2 or similar when the time comes.

I am married, 3 girls (all grown) and enjoy learning to fly, playing and building acoustic guitars, woodworking, camping/travel, and cooking among other things.

    nice to meet everyone!

    cheers,

    Adam
