1. Just had an interesting phone call from someone with an unusual accent, offering investment opportunities. Why I ask on this site is, they knew my name (no big deal) and that I was a level two maintainer. There is only one place this is on record, any other L2's had similar incidents? If so, how does one fix this problem?

How did RAA information end up in a telemarketers office?

I got the same call as well ,if someone calls me with a strange accent i just hang up. To get info all they have to do is go on the RAA website and all your contact details are there if you are a L2 or CFI etc. Cheers Steve.

2. Hi All,Where could I get a set of skins for a Chinook WT-11?

Regards

Bill

Hi Bill, Wayne Fisher made skins for the Chinook i use to have, all i had to do was send him the old ones so he could use them for templates, they were perfect. cheers, Steve.

3. Hi Everyone,I have recently purchased a T500 that was a 99% complete rebuild project.

I am in the process of replacing the wing skins as the aircraft has been sitting in an open front hangar and the leading edge is stuffed.

With the skins off I have checked that the strut attach brackets comply with the AN 27-10-2004.

They all seem ok but there is a second set of these brackets inboard of the strut brackets which I think attach to cables? It appears that these are the old style seam welded variety.

Do these need to be updated as well or are the ok provided they are not damaged?

Thanks for your help

David

Hi David, The outer brackets are the ones that have to comply with AN 27-10-2004 Happy rebuilding Steve .

4. Hi Guys and Gals,I am looking for some good photos of recreational aircraft for the new website. They will go on the "aircraft" page to give people an idea about the kind of aircraft we fly. So I need:

• Ultralight / LSA category: Jabirus, SportStar, Morgan Aeroworks, etc.

• Trikes / weight shift

• powered chutes.

I don't want to randomly grab them off the internet and having to chase people for permission. So if you have good quality photos, please send them to me under the understanding they may be used for this purpose!

Please email them to [email protected].

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bas, I have sent you one of my Thruster Gemini i hope it's what you want. Cheers Steve.

5. Seeing the inspection windows just behind the seats reminded me of some photos Tony Tiffin sent me. Hope you don't mind me posting one of your shots here Tony.

Nice presentation I'm sure you will agree. What do you think of the spinner?

Pud

Hi, Pud, The photo's that Tiffo sent you are of my Gemini after him and i finished completely overhauling and covering in the rear with stits. It also has the same amount of wig battens as a t 500, If you look above the doors you will notice "experimental" stickers, Steve Bell from Raaus had me put them there until it had a reg 35 to make all the mods legal. It's now a legal trainer again and flies as good as it looks. Cheers, The Baron.

6. It wont be 10-0049 as thats the number on my Thruster T83 which has flaperons and is a EHF version they done with a full rear pod which looks awesome too.I havent flown it yet as I'm building a X-Air S to get my licence in, not sure where you herd or read that you dont need a RAA licence or reg aircraft needed if flying on your own property but I do like the idea though :)

cheers Pete

Hi Pete is 10049 your rego no or is it your serial no

reason i ask is all the serial numbers i have looked at only have 4 digits just curious? cheers Steve

7. Hello, just did a complete and thourough look over, could not find a plate still and also looked for rivets or rivet holes and nothing?I should mention its still running the origanal fuji robin 50hp and appears to have origanal alloy engine mounts..what has been removed and replaced were the wing box's,new mild steel fitted(raa phoned and noted)..I dont have a lot of history other than it was inspected in 1990 at mt,gambier by a Lyall Sharam then in 2009 it was inspected in nsw(somwhere near Sydney),wing box replaced and flown(total 3.5 hours logged),I bought this from another owner with no log book,no licence, (as he was a farm flyer who flew it on his own property{apperentlythe raa rules state no licence or reg required if flown on and within own property} wich he flew the day of purchace. other than that all I know is its a modified T83, one of 49 built...mods are : endurence tank and spoiler fitted, rear cabin new full alloy sheet fitted(to fill in cockpit) new doors fitted and a 3 blade brolga fitted..I was yold this eas done very early in its life..?

Like Corky said it should have a 4 digit number starting with the number 1 on the end of the engine mount usually the front left hand side one. The numbers are not real big. For example if your t83 is the 49th built it's number will be 1049, certified 2 seaters have the ID plate like Pud mentioned.Cheers Steve.

I now have 1.6 hours in MY airplane, and don't it feel good:rilla::rilla::rilla:

She flys very well with no unpleasant characteristics. It took me a little while to get back into the groove, seeing as how it was June last year the last time I flew a Thruster. Went with the instructor for a few circuits until he was satisfied I still 'had it'. I need a few more hours of circuit bashing to get real confident but I'm up for it:laugh:

I've got a couple of video clips I need to edit and I'll post the end result here if somebody tells me how to go about doing it.

One very happy puppy:thumb up:012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif012_thumb_up.gif.83e1b5422694a022eec36e1e8343f687.gif

Pud

PS The bloody gate takings were miserable!! A couple of old geezers snuck in the back way without paying and that was it!!

Good onya Pud, Thrusters Rule!

9. G`Day Steve, Well done!...Wish I could get that life span, here!Being covered certainly would make a big difference and the darker the hanger, the better, but it also depends on the hours flown and the intensity of the sun, as hrs flown = hrs in full UV.

I`ve always used UV protection...... Initaly I was buying AP303 from Wayne Fisher but I decided to try Armourall on this last set......I realy don`t know if it makes much difference!!!

Cheers,

Frank.

Hi Frank, I have used both Ap303 and Armourall on my skins i think it's much of a muchness. I put my rego numbers on before i used UV treatment on the skins. The Gemini has 760 hrs on it and it would not have spent much time in direct sunlight in the heat of the day. Cheers Steve.

10. Geof, Unfortunately painting numbers on with the wing attached to the AC is a pain in the neck, literally!....I make my own skins and paint the numbers on after I`ve assembled the wing, but before I attach it to the aircraft, this way the fabric is tight and I`m not breaking my neck, having to looking up!....It seems a lot of trouble, but if you have someone to help you remove the wing, you`ll be much better off.Skin lifespan: When I was instructing and flying a lot of hrs, 3 to 3 1/2 years, max!...These days I don`t fly as much so it`s not exposed to the sun as much!...The current set is coming up to 4 years and still in good condition.

By the way: I make my wing skins in 2 seperate sections , much easier to construct!... I`ve put an extra rib in the middle end and this allows me to pull each wing tightly together and get a tighter wing, also to retighten later if required!

Frank.

Hi Frank, The elevator, rudder, and horizontal stabilizer skins on my Gemini are original 1986, the only reason i changed the wing skins was because i wanted 17 battens instead of 9. Having said that my aircraft has always been in a hangar and covered , which i think makes a big difference. Cheers Steve.

11. Meddo, Is it Dacron and did you clean with solvent before sticking the numbers on?......Just interested!!!Frank.

Hi Frank, They are dacron and no i didn't clean them with solvent as they hadn't had any armourall or anything like that put on them. Cheers Steve.

12. Hi could someone please tell me what are the best method of attaching rego numbers to sail clothcurrently l am using the vinyl stick ons from my local sign writter l am having to restick them on after each flight is there some better system.

thanks Geoff.

Hi Geoff, I got my numbers for my thruster from Di at Punkin Head Airsports and they haven't budged in the five years

they have been on. Give her a ring on 0429938426. Cheers Steve.

13. Well tomorrow is the day if the wind is ok.Tomorrow is the day when my T500 Thruster registered 25-0331 gets to become a flying machine, rather than a pile of rag and tube aspiring to be a flying machine:oh yeah: I'll get to Northam around 8am to help Steve do some final stuff, throughly check out the complete aircraft going over every control circuit nut and bolt, clip in the radio (hand held), and watch Steve do some strip runs. Some minor adjustments, another inspection of all components, and if all checks out, I expect to record Steve do a circuit or 2.

Who knows, by Saturday evening I may well have tasted flight in my own aircraft - it's been coming for a lifetime but the last 18 months or so have been excruciating!!

Pud

Here's a pic of the finished product.

She looks fantastic Pud it is a credit to you believe me i know how much work has gone into it as i have completely rebuilt a Gemini and brought it up to T500 specs with the help of the late Tony Hayes and Bob Llewelyn of TOSG. With Steve doing the final bits she couldn't be in better hands. Cheers The Baron.

15. single seat thruster info

16. this is indeed avery sad day, not only for Kay, Sue, and Penny but for ultralight aviation as well.we have all heard the saying that everybody can be replaced well sadly in this case that is not true Tony can not be replaced nor can his experience and knowledge, he freely gave expert advice to anyone who asked and took nothing in return, nothing was to much trouble.I could site hundreds of occasions where Tony has helped someone with a problem. Kay ,Sue, and Penny have lost a much loved and valued husband and brother, aviation has lost his knowledge and his wealth of experience, and i have lost a bloody good mate, cheers Tony and may you rest in peace. Steve Meddings.

17. your right Gary it is terrible news.I think it would be safe to say just about everybody that has owned a Thruster has needed Tony's expertise at one time or another. I know my Gemini would not be flying hands off if it wasn't for Tony.Over the four years i have known Tony we have become good friends, and i am proud to be associated with him and TOSG. Together we have solved many problems for myself and others. when Kay told my wife Marilyn and myself of the prognosis i felt like i'd been shot in the guts at close range. I know Tony's dogged determination and if anyone can beat this he can. All the best my friend we will be up to see you as soon as possible. Cheers Steve Meddings.
