1. In my opinion you should have it connected to the rudder cables.

My tail wheel cables are attached further up the rudder cables than Kiwi's, 16.5" .

His are a fair bit shorter, but both aircraft feel the same on the ground.

  2. Hi Greg, congrats on your new Drifter, what was the setup with tailwheel/skid? Nothing wrong with the small solid tailwheel, I changed mine from pneumatic to a smaller solid one on the advice of the Drifter guru's. The factory did the same with the later S.B. model

  3. Hey guys i am getting back into flying. And the local instructor teachers on a savannah i think it's a S20. So the question what are the aircraft like to fly vices and tips would be a great help.

    Regards Paul

That would be the Savannah " S ". S20 is a Rans aircraft.

  4. Mark , when you say premade, do you use it straight out of the bottle? I am paying $180+ for 1US gal of Alodine but then dilute it 3 to 1 with distilled water, giving me about 15lts. of mixWhat is the brand name of the mag wheel cleaner? is it the same as Alumiprep 33?

Correction, the rate to dilute Alodine ( for dipping ) is 2 to 1.

    I use 3 to 1 for the Alumiprep 33

  5. Yes I finally found the right place. Its halfway to the Gold Coast at Ormeau but they had it. You used to be able to buy it in crystal format in 500 gram lots but they have since changed and Henkle now only supply it in 4.5kg....thats $1000 and makes up 600 US gallons....yeah right!!!!! but you can buy premade up liquid in 4 of US 1 gallon bottles in a carton that was $155.00 plus it totals about 15 litres. I have 2 of the 4 bottles in that tub and its heaps so far and it is still doing it in about 1 minute...yes you need to clean then acid wash first..wash off the acid wash then drop into the alodine...then pull it out and wash it off and let it dry and bingo its done...its really quick and easy

  6. Naturally we have all heard of Amelia Earhart, but what other great female aviators are there that you consider worth mentioning and why?

  8. I currently use an Icom A22 as my only radio, without a battery pack, powered via the 12v socket in the side plugged into the aircraft 12v power bus. It seems to work fine. But I have recently read that this is not a good idea, & that a 'battery eliminator' should be used. This is a black box full of electronic trickery, roughly the same size as a battery.

The reason I don't have a battery fitted is to save the space it occupies in my very cosy cockpit/panel. So the battery eliminator would negate this.

Does anyone else just power their Icom direct from the power bus, without a battery fitted? Any (long term) problems?

    TIA

    Bruce[/quote

My Icom A22 has no battery attached and is wired into the aircraft 12v. No problems after 18years and 800+ hrs.

  9. I have vague recollections of an Australian plane raffle, but not sure of the outcome.

There was an aircraft raffle in Australia 30+ years ago, a Cessna 310 I think, tickets , from memory $200.00.

I bought a ticket but the money was eventually refunded and the raffle cancelled, didn't sell enough tickets.

  10. My longest non stop flight was 5.9hrs. in my Wire Braced drifter. My longest trip was 2,010 nm. from "Lynden" to Longreach and return, via Ragland and Fraser island, also in the drifter and in company with Kiwi , another Drifter, a Savannah, lightwing and Jabiru.
