  1. Hi Wags.

    Thanks for the info.

We got a new sender for under $200 and the oil pressure readings are now fine.

    Hi Rick.

Did you get my PM about the replacement sender?

And those lotto numbers were no good at all..!!!!

    Cheers.

    Sean.

Shaun,Like many others I also suffer from badly fluctuating oil pressure. However I believe it is most likely not the sender that is malfunctioning but the oil pressure regulator itself. The sender is approx $340 whereas the replacement part for the pressure regulator costs only a fraction of that. I have a new part "in the mail" and will post the result after I have fitted it.

Before you go off and order the new part however check all your ground wiring connections are nice and tight, especially the bus behind the pax side instrument panel.

ROTAX have come out with a replacement for the "ball" in the oil pressure regulator - the replacement part number is 857-230. This is a "conical" shaped replacement for the ball and I quote you two very recent comments direct from the ROTAX factory in respect of this new part...

"ROTAX is now switching from a ball valve PN-432-680 to a cone shaped valve PN-857-230. According to the charts sent over with this info, the new valve will result in a higher average oil pressure across the entire range of RPMs. This product has been under development for the past two years and IS NOT A MANDATORY RETROFIT nor is it covered under warranty."

"This valve: PN-857-230, really offers a solution for engines with deviating (fluctuating) oil pressure indication only– this part should improve the reading.

    Reason:

ROTAX has no influence over what reading devices the customers do mount, they can’t test all available Oil Pressure Gauges or EMS in the world.

Therefore they have come up with this update as a replacement for all installations not using the tested ROTAX Flydat."

Wal (at Bert Floods) happened to have one of the new parts with him after a visit to the Rotax factory and I have been lucky enough to have him send it to me. Hasn't arrived as yet however.

  2. The Caboolture Aero Club, in conjunction with the Queensland Vintage Aircraft Group has selected Sunday November 29th for the annual Antique Aircraft Association of Australia Toy Run, at Caboolture Airport

Last year we floated the idea of soliciting financial contributions, rather than toys, and for the raised funds to be devoted to Angel Flight. We saw this as being more achievable in terms of distribution and usefulness, and as being directly related to our activities.

Many of our flying colleagues provide their aircraft and their time to Angel flight, and are only reimbursed for their fuel: provided, of course, that the Angel Flight Coffers have the funds to pay for the fuel, and this is where we can all help

The Aero Club will have morning teas and lunch available at a reasonable cost, part of the cost of which will go to Angel Flight and you are asked to participate and to take the opportunity of giving back by making a financial contribution equivalent to the amount you would have spent on a toy.

So, aircraft and car owners, vintage and otherwise, Angel Flight owners/ pilots, please put Caboolture on your calendars for November 29th

The action starts any time after first light on the day

    Parking assistance will be available

In the event of inclement weather which could render the runways boggy a go/ no go decision will be made by noon of the day before, Sat 28th, and will be posted on the club’ website www.cabaeroclub.org.au

  3. Hi.

    Problem: fluctuating oil pressure readings.

The actual engine oil pressure is fine, used a another type of gauge to verify.

The wiring loom seems fine too.

So suspect oil pressure sender or Flydat panel.

Does anyone know of a better priced oil pressure sender to suit Flydat?

The best I have seen is $600 AUD.

Does anyone know of a used Flydat panel for sale?

    Cheers.

    Sean.

  4. Nice Cabooluture Trip:Flew in from Boonah with a mate (Ray) from Warwick in his CTSW. East Via Jacobs Well, then North over Stradbroke / Moreton Islands and then over the bay, was GREAT, spent a couple of hours at Caboolture. We then flew West and dropped into Kilcoy then flew south over the Dams and over Amberly and straight home to Boonah an overall distance of 200 Nautical Miles (THANKS RAY)

edit: I heard one of our flying tigers club members one the raffle.. 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

    Hi Ray.

Glad you had a great day.

    Sean.

  5. Hello.

Just thought I would let you know the product we use to know as PLEXUS is now called VUPLEX.

I recently purchased a can of it from Autobarn.

    Sean.

P.S. Hope to see you at the Bundy air show.......

I am very fortunate to have scored a seat in Des's DH86 Dragon Rapide out of Caboolture going to the show. Doing it in style, how good is that?!!!!!

  6. Fantastic

Sean. I bet it was nice and quiet at raglan. Did Leonie look after you well or was it Ronny and Helen.Don't know why it took me so long to see it was Rocky, I have flown there often enough.

    Hi Yenn.

Yes, we all had a fantastic time and we were all very well looked after by Ron, Helen, Lynne, Kiwi & Leonie.

But please don't ask me about the Karaoke.....!!!!!!!

I must be the only person in the world where someone has been singing Karaoke and was instructed to put down the mic and step away......!!!!!!

But the more Bundy & Cokes I drink the more I sound like Frank Sinatra, I did it my way...........Go figure......

I look forward to the next time we go to Raglan.

It is my longest XC to date, at over 500NM and some 8.7 hrs on the clock in total. And to fly in company with other aircraft & friends, it doesn't get much better than that, does it?

Until my next "Guess The Airstrip".

    Cheers.

    Sean.

  7. Lock it in Eddy, I mean Yenn

That has got to be runway 33 Rockhampton.

    Give that man a cigar......

Congratulations Yenn, it is indeed RWY33 YBRK

A number of us flew out of YCAB to spend a few days at Raglan and we also went to Rocky for a day trip to see the MIG and an RV in final stage of a build. The photo of RWY33 Approach was taken from a “Sud Horizon” Model # GY80.

Attached is a photo of our aircrafts parked at Raglan.
