  1. Ok, I have asked and been given AN explination, but in thinking about it: What was said doesn't quite work for me. No offence to the person who said it. Scenario: Jab' with radio. My head set. When in flight and I talk, it is distorted with a lot of background noise and "pulsing". It was said this is called "motor boating" and it is because the altermeter is not big/strong enogh to handle the load. Sounds plausible. But let's look at some things which I feel/think fail that idea: I am flying, not idling. The revs are at about 2700, the voltage is 14.4 and there is little else on. IE: No landing lights, no NAV lights, no beacon, no strobes. Just the radio, Xponder, EFIS and HSI. Oh, ok, and my GPS plugged in the AUX socket. Now, fair enough voltage and current are different things, but if the alternator wasn't cutting it, wouldn't the voltage also be fluctuating? And there is a battery in the equation to "fill in the gaps" if the alternator wasn't producing enough output. Of course throughout this the CHARGE light is NOT glowing. It does at idle. So who has any other ideas? Yes, I know that usually with that kind of problem the power supply is the first and major suspect. But given the voltage (inndicated) is 14.4 at the time, it sort of shoots that idea dead. At idle, the voltage goes down to 11.9/what ever. I can clearly see that with revs/power the voltage increases, which makes sense. Anyone?
  2. Glint, Possibily part of the reason the plane pulled left could be torque. However, others have explained what you need to do - and even you said you worked it out. There is no harm in what you did. We make mistakes. And the reason we do is to learn by them (Batman, Alfred to Bruce as a child.) One question for you though is: Why flaps up? From what I understand, you keep flaps down until you have established a positive rate of climb and are high enough to be safe. Lifting the flaps kills lift, and that close to the ground CAN be dangerous. So I was told to keep them down until things are sorted out. Am I wrong? Anyway, safe flying. Keep learning and keep enjoying yourself.
  3. Ok, over "bush" or ocean/water the lowest is 500 feet AGL (or AWL) - unless you are landing. But over towns...... 1,000 or 1,500? I remember 1,000 but someone said it is 1,500. Hey, don't shoot me. I want to be sure.
  4. Man who walks though airport with erection gonig to Bangkok
  5. OK, there were structural failures. But it still leaves the question open for me: Was there a compete/propper pre-flight done? Did they fail because of things that happened during the flight or is it they were "neglected"/not seen for a long time?
  6. Ok, my turn. (I can't keep up with all the posts. So forgive me if I re-state things.) The accident happened. There is nothing we can do about it now. The "factors" involved are: The PILOT - first and foremost. The weather. The plane. The airstrip. The wheel which was hit. I can't really think of more, though some will say things like "the concil", "the operator of the fair" and so on. But let's look at what happened: Another plane had already landed. This plane had already done a touch and go. The pilot had overflown the field. He didn't see the wheel. The other plane didn't bother to mention the wheel. If I am not mistaken from what I have read: This plane landed in the opposite direction to the other plane. The pilot's skills. Although it is nice to think that in a prefect world when something like this happens, the plane won't fall appart - and it didn't if I remember - the pilot's descisions prior to the event need to be looked at above all else. It is a bit silly saying the plane's construction can't withstand impact "X" so should be faulted. The pilot put the plane in that situation and so may have put the structure beyond it's design limit. Not only that, but the second plane's pilot not mentioning something along the lines of, "Hey silly, what are you doing landing WITH the wind. Use the other runway!" Would have gone a fair way to reducing the problem. P.S. The daily Tele. Pg 13 (Wendesday)
  7. Though I am trying on their forum, I am stuck with some things. Anyone?
  8. Folks, Need help. Ok, it may be WHERE I have the files, but I am stuck with a problem about listening to music. I have an 8 Gig card in the phone and a bit of music, sounds etc. Obviously some sounds are used for alerts, ring tones, etc. If/when I go walkies, I plug in the head phones and listen to music. It is annoying when the phone plays a ring tone or alert tone in the play list. I can't "remove" the sound from the play list without deleting it from the phone - or at least the way I have learnt to delete from the playlist. Can some one educate this little dog.
  9. A very similar story was circulated but it was supposedly from John Clease. (spelling?)
  10. Sorry, buy haven't read all the rest of the replies. Hang on..... When I was doing my BFR and was doing climbouts in a new plane I was shown the problem of taking the flaps up TOO SOON! So if he did take the flaps up they would have lost even more lift and so have climbed out even lower. Do you mean: I wonder if he took the flaps up too soon? Just asking.
  11. Q: Why does Tinkerbell fly around, around and around? . . . . . . . (yeah well keep reading below) . . . . . . . . . (I have to put some space here) A: She's from never never land.

  13. Ok dumb question: Where's the gallery? I'm still not both feet on the ground. And tomorrow I am off to Tumut for their fly in.
  14. OK, where do you want me to put my piccies?
  15. I'm just annoyed I can't join that gym called Fernwood.
  16. It is funny, but all the smilies throughout it make it difficult to read. And it is from America - obviously - could you change "mom" to mum?
  17. It was 06:00 and I just got in from LA. A bit of sleep but I wasn't paying too much attention. We landed on 07 at YSSY, so taxiing back to the international terminal we went past all the planes on the ground at the EAST end of the airport. I noticed a QANTAS plane - d'uh! - but noticed the rego: ZK - xxx Definitly NOT VH - xxx Ok, maybe it wasn't ZK, but it definitly wasn't VH. What gives? How? Why? Just asking.
  18. Ok, I've been on 4 weeks of "fun" and just got back. Did I send someone the picture or not? (I'm still jet lagged. Well, that's my excuse.)
  19. I like the shot of the back when the elevators are visible - while doing pre-flight checks - and the elveators are NOT sync'ed. One is horizontal and the other is dropped down. Hmmmm....
  20. I won't spoil it by saying what it is, but it really is good. http://www.youtube.com/embed/kPvciIdDZAE
  21. That's my bigger brother y'know. :)
  22. 7 Reasons Not To Mess With Children A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, 'When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah'. The teacher asked, 'What if Jonah went to hell?' The little girl replied, 'Then you ask him'.. A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work.. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, 'I'm drawing God.' The teacher paused and said, 'But no one knows what God looks like.' Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, 'They will in a minute.' A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to 'honor' thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, 'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?' Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, 'Thou shall not kill.' One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, 'Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?' Her mother replied, 'Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.' The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, 'Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?' The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. 'Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer, she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael, He's a doctor..' A small voice at the back of the room rang out, 'And there's the teacher, she's dead.' A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, 'Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.' 'Yes,' the class said. 'Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?' A little fellow shouted, 'Cause your feet ain't empty.' The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: 'Take only ONE .. God is watching.' Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, 'Take all you want. God is watching the apples.'
  23. Steve, Thanks for confirming that. Though that maybe isn't the best word in this case. I guess though it does show people how small the world is. I haven't seen Gordon or Richard in about 30 years. (Probably more.) Again: All my best to the family.
