I may be wrong but I understand that if you have a 'glass cockpit' you must have ASI and ALT as steam gauges as well, or have a backup glass screen.

Mick visited Gawler on Saturday and was part way through an Australia wide trip speaking to pilots and answering questions. I had to leave early but he said:
230 and 430 will be factory manufactured at 760kg
170 will continue and 230 @ 600 as well
Gen 3 parts will be manufactured for all that have that engine can relax
working on a Gen 5 engine BUT it MAY be electric
will include analog instruments for those that want them to keep everything simple for people like me
he is a pilot and so is his daughter
all the staff are remaining
he is the MD at a major military supplier but can not divulge any more details about the products.
I Had to leave then but Jabiru 7252 then arrived so may be able to shed some light on any further detail.
Sounds all good to me
The question about getting parts like distributors, rotor buttons, ignition coils, spark plugs and leads etc. was raised. There was the mention by a club member that these parts may become hard to source as engines become more 'modern'. The very thing about Jabiru engines is their simplicity, when we start getting engines with electronic fuel injected whizz bang technology we start to lose the ability to service and repair. We have all seen it in the automotive industry, home appliance industry etc. God help us if AI ever becomes involved.

Consider this scenario…
You land at a Security Controlled Airport.
You shut down and are about to head into Town, when a person strolls over and demands to see your ASIC.
You say, Sir (or Madam) I demand to see the paperwork giving you the authority to see my ASIC!
After the stunned look disappears from the apparent Officials face you say….
SIR, you are upsetting and harrassing an Aircraft Captain, and I demand to exit the Airport without further interrogation.
Silly scenario I know, however we shouldnt have to go through this possibility when landing at an Airport and simply wanting to go into Town and support the local economy!
If you land and don't cross the fence, refuel, check the oil, clean the wind screen, you won't get challenged at all. If you cross the fence you won't get challenged. It's when you try to get back to the plane you might get challenged. That's how I understand it. Some folks think you cannot land without an ASIC, which is bollocks.

Yea, when I was flying I never had an ASIC and when challenged, stayed polite and asked for assistance. Tell them you're 'special' and they might understand...

As for the car (not mine) got no idea where it gets its (50kph) info from however there is no speed sign on our road, a dead end, off an 80kph main drag.
Maybe AI? One of the most over-rated, misunderstood and dangerous technologies emerging today. Like the robo-debt disaster, many people will be 'guilty' of speeding, using phones while driving, not wearing seat belts because some AI software says so. I spent 20 years writing software for Defence and have seen some pretty amazing stuff, but I reckon it's still years before we can truly trust AI. Hands up those who would fly in a pilotless plane today....

Folks who don't indicate when leaving a round-a-bout should have their faces set on fire, then put out with a shovel.

Morgan Sierra - is that the plane with the vastly under-rated nose gear that collapses far too easily?
-
As the population ages more cars run into shops fronts because the drivers are so old, maybe we can expect much the same with planes? Just a thought.

Back in August (I think) there was a plane doing those flight patterns over Adelaide but, nothing on flight radar, ATSB exchange or OzRunways. It was quite high and using binoculars didn't help identify it.

Yes, it IS too complicated. We have courses run at our club every now and then to make sure folks are up to date. Like a lot of things these days, new technology meets old age and gnashing of teeth and swearing results.

When I started flying the fun part was creating a plan and flying it. I thought the whizz-wheel was a cool piece of kit. And using it in front of your (non-pilot) passengers made you appear just that little bit smarter than the average bear.

I was under the impression that the Cirrus was difficult or impossible to recover once in a spin.

I think any interference to compass readings caused by flying near magnetite deposits would be small compared to the normal compass swing we experience from turbulence etc. Gee, trying to navigate using just the compass in a Jabiru on a hot day was a challenge. (I miss the directional gyro from my GA days).

I lost my copy of Windows 95 CD. It turned up 20 years later in an old calculus book that never gets read. I went grey and slightly mad as a result of that.

I remember a young lady learning to fly the Jabirus at the Gawler Flying Club and has been flying for the RAAF for quite a few years since (C17 I think).

They don't let you out of hospital until you can achieve that level of emptying. They measure residual urine using ultrasound scans.

When living in the UK back in 1980 I used to catch the express train from London to Maidstone. I was busting for a number two and being the only person in the carriage and knowing the train would be zooming through the stations without stopping I hung my bum out the window. Well, going through one station I heard over a PA system "Hey you with the fat cheeks and cigar, get your head back in the window". Not a plane story but, what the heck...

Most people these days are so stupid they probably thought it was normal. Check out info on millennials, it's scary what you read.
