  1. I must agree . I have only one request that hasn,t been answered promptly and professionaly by the RAA office ,and that was by the Tech Officer(still waiting). Apart from that the RAA office has been great to deal with.
  2. I have a 503 with single carb and points ignition. The log says 295 hrs . Can anyone advise me how to test condition of motor and what service should be done. The motor starts and runs faultlessly. JOHN
  3. The Gazelle flight manual also states a cross wind component of 20 knts. From personal experience x/wind gusts of 20 knts are handeled reasonable well in the Gazelle
  4. Thanks again Brentc I would love to see a copy of the Gazelle brochure. I am very found of my Gazelle and a copy would go well with my paperwork. If it is possible I would be happy to pay for photocopying etc. REagrds John
  5. Thanks Brentc do you know exactly where the extra strength was built into thr Gazelle ?
  6. got 1000 hours on my 912 oil change every 50 hrs with no top up needed
  7. On another forum it is stated that the Skyfox is 70 kgs lighter than the Gazelle . Does anyone know why ? the front wheel and assembly would be no where near 70 kgs. John
  8. Thanks Brentc On reflection the wood props were on the Gazelle when she was online and I like you am very carefull with my aeroplanes mybe I should get one of the old wood props refinished and give them another go. I would love to see that video if you ever find a copy please let me know John
  9. What surface was the airstrip you opperated from. From personal experience dirt/grass strips do horrible things to wood props and we were always repairing chipsand splits
  10. Hi I was under the impression that the RAA was turning a blind eye to private aircraft but all for hire aircraft had to have wood props. However does the RAA insurence become void if you use a comp prop for private use?
  11. Hi We have been running Shell SX4 since the engine was replaced 1000 hrs ago in our Gazelle and have not had any problems . The first 500 hrs was on Av Gas oil change every 50 hrs the last 500 hrs on Premuim Unleaded with 50 hr oil changes. Should we expect problems? John
  12. Ian You hear plenty of people knocking the Gazelle however there is not many other types in the RAA that do any where near the hrs the Gazelle does. Only time will tell if the more popular trainers can hack the treatment and deliver such SAFE enjoyable flying Kind Regards John
  13. Thanks Ian I will be interested to see what the perfomance is with full fuel and MTOW. It sounds like its performing as good as my Bolly Prop. How many Hrs does your Gazelle have on the airswitch? Regards John
  14. Ian How did the new prop go ? I have three wood props in various stages of repair how do you tell what pitch they are Regards John
  15. Chris The MapTrax VTC and WAC charts are identical to Air Services . The PDA using oziexplorer displays them as moving maps so they are a great nav backup John
  16. Chris My unit is a Hewlett-Packard IPAQ hw6515 I have owned two IPAQ's and both have performed faultlessly There are many other brands available but I have no personal experience with them. Regards John
  17. Hi Chris My IPAQ PDA hase a mobile phone inbuilt and runs basic computer programs. I also have a road navagation program inbuilt alowing me to transfer the unit from car to plane it smaller and more conveniant than most moving map GPS units. So the one small unit is a mobile phone, GPS,address book, small computer, calculator, voice note taker and more. Regards John
  18. Hi Guys I have been using an IPAQ PDA with flashcard GPS for some years now. I use Oziexplorer and VTC and WAC charts I purchace over the net. The IPAQ is good in direct sunlight and backlit when needed. The screen size is the only drawback (eyesight not as good as it used to be) But the system works great and fits easily in small planes like the Sapphire. Regards John
  19. Hi Ian The only experience I have had with woodern props on my Gazelle were all bad. Poor climb always getting chipped and splits. My Gazelle is not on line now and sports a two bladed Bolly prop which gives 600 fpm climb with two up and 70 knt at 4800 rpm and runs smoothly I am very happy with it Regards John
  20. Rick good points However the skyfox is no different to any other aeroplane on the RAA registor . If you fly outside the certified limits you are risking your neck. The skyfox is no more prone to failure than any other if you fly outside the design limits. Have a look at the number of hours that most Gazelles have safely flown and in general it will far more than most, a good sign I think. John
  21. Thanks Geoff I was thinking along the lines of self launcher I think it was Pic 20 E John
  22. Anyone got any thoughts what will happen to the RAA if and when bottom end GA aircraft are put on the registor as is being touted at the moment? Its hard to believe the grass root aircraft will get much attention if 150's and Pipers become available. John
  23. What about Pic 20's or simular ? John
  24. Does anyone know the current price of secondhand self launch gliders single or twoseaters Regards john
  25. Hi Guys Just came back from a week gliding at Lake Keepit. Got re-endorsed on winch/aerotow and single seaters. If you think the Gazelle is short on space try fitting 100 kgs into a LS7 single seater, even with a shoehorn I just fitted in. However I can highly recommend gliding to all RAA pilots the skill of balancing a glider in flight will surley make you a better power pilot and with every landingbeing a forced landing judging power out approaches will be much easier. Cheers John
