  1. Hi, They were advertised for $2990.00 plus gst in the trader by a company called scooterqld. When I wanted to buy one, they advised of a `currency surcharge` of around $220.00 stating they like to be totally `transparent` with all costs? I decided not to buy one from there yet until the `currency surcharge` was removed. I have since had a reply that the `surcharge` is now $94.00.

  2. I`ve had the prop `bite` me with compression kickback when not paying enough attention to the `pull through`. hurts the fingers. My cessna is much more leisurely but could be unforgiving as it can start easily by hand (When set up to do so)

  3. I fly a J230, a 172 and a 210 and I find the J230 the most pleasant machine for long distances. It uses about the same amount of fuel as my Magna except I am going double the speeds. I agree there are tecnams and sportstars that have `better` control feel and better finish but for 100k, most people I talk to dream of owning a J230 let alone a sportstar or tecnam at a third more. Jabiru are 95% there..just 5% to go.

  4. I heard there is a new strip near Penneshaw, anybody know anything about that? Muston Heights is a good place to visit with accomodation and car (and fuel) just zoom in on `Muston`(on google maps) next to American River and you can see the strip clearly. Dean and Judy are your hosts. ph. 08 8553 7367

  5. I would like to know as well as I had `wisely` taped up the doors at Porepunkah before it rained to stop the water filling the cabin but when I removed the tape, it took some paint as well as it was quite cold and brittle. I think the aviation name is matterhorn white but surely someone has matched it with an auto equiv. I have seen paints matched on other aircraft and I`m not impressed with the quality of the matching when done by a paint shop.

  6. If you `feel` through the lining of the centre console where the txp connector would be, you will see a cut out underneath in the fibreglass (in the side of the console). You can then cut out the lining to access the BNC connector and nut for the antenna. It is tricky but doable.

  7. Have you done the cooling mod with the oil cooler shroud and removing the gull wing baffles? Its in Service letter JSL 004-1. I almost fixate on the oil temp guage when it gets to 100c. In cruise it stays around 90-95c on a normal day.

  8. I had a look at the J120 manual and it doenst mention any limitations on max ambient unlike all the other J`s which list max as 38 degree ambient. I also noticed the J120 at 2600 rpm using 11 litres ph does 100knots, at 2700rpm using 13.5 lph does 107knts and at 2800rpm using 15lph does 105knots! maybe a misprint of some kind. I expect Jabiru may make an amendment to the manuals for the J120. I would be interested to hear if it has `no` limitations considering all the other factory models are limited to 38.

  9. I recall one fibreglass training aircraft having a spar temp probe that gave a go/no go on hot days...may have been a Grob or something like that. Certainly not a Jab. I think the engine overheating would be the only thing holding back a Jab driver on a day over 40.
