  1. Oops, it was a direct xwind from the right which makes it pretty much a southerly at the time. Being an unfamilier airport, It takes me a while to get my `bearings` sorted. 10 was the `active` runway at the time. Thanks for picking that up.

     

     

  2. When I picked up my 230 from Bundy just over a year ago, I went to Gladstone to visit relies before flying home to SA. There was a xwind of about 12 knots from the west on runway 10. Straight after touching down, the plane started to `slide` sideways on all 3 wheels with a shuddering throughout. I had the stick well to the right. I havnt had this happen since. My guess is it was an increase in the xwind at the time of touchdown. In a `GA` aircraft, you probably wouldnt be affected by changes in wind strength as much. My cessnas empty weight is over 600kg whereas my Jab is 360kg yet the Jab with four seats will carry more, faster and further than the 172. I guess my point would be an aircraft such as the Jabiru is a `high` performance aircraft even when compared to GA types, but the fact is they are much lighter and susceptible to variations in wind speeds compared to the heavier `tinnies`and have to be flown as such when near the ground. I would be interested to know how many other LSA type aircraft have departed the runway in similar conditions (mechanical faults excluded) cheers, Q.

     

     

  3. I replaced the txp lead with better quality coax and it made a slight difference. I noticed the noise changes depending on where I put my right foot in the cockpit. I suspect the txp is leaking RFI into the power wires for the radio and intercom and some physical separation helps. Adding some chokes may help reduce the noise along with good quality coax and trying to keep the wires apart. That has made it all heaps quieter. Now I can actually hear transmissions on the radio clearly.

     

     

  4. There are `nameless` people in my area that dont and probably never will have an ASIC.

     

    One guy walked past `officials` with a defence ID on his flight jacket, noone took any notice. When I looked at it later, its expiry date was in 1994!! There will be plenty of similar stories to tell over a beer in the future.

     

     

  5. It seems the ASIC requirement at small airports has given some sense of power and authority to the council worker charged with `securing` Australias airports. It makes some feel important being able `tell off` a pilot where a few years ago, we would have been left alone, or maybe a general friendly chat before flight.

     

     

  6. It came to light in the news recently you can actually check in to a major airline WITHOUT showing any form of ID (using self checkin kiosk). That makes the whole `aviation security` a huge joke. Now it just singles out us pilots who want to fly ourselves around. The only use an ASIC has to me is as a name tag to remember peoples names at flyins etc.. or as a scraper of some kind (a very expensive scraper)

     

     

  7. Maybe its time we looked at scrapping the ASIC card for recreational flyers minding their own business. I believe a current drivers licence with photo is all that should be required for ID. The USA and NZ looked at it and do not have a similar system due to the obvious flaws. As for me, I am sick of the thing trying to strangle me as I get on my knees to check undersides of planes etc, and the local council worker asks me why Im not wearing it (when I put it in my pocket through shear annoyance) even though he knows who I am. I tried to use the ASIC for ID purposes at the bank but they dont recognise it as a valid form of ID for the 100 points unlike a Drivers Licence. Maybe we can petition the Rudd government to have this Howard impost reversed.
