  1. There is a J230 with 70 odd hours in the latest aviation trader for $85k with big dash. Sounds pretty cheap.
  2. Are you looking to buy a J230 or hire one? If you want to hire one, dont be surprised if the owner/operator forbids you to operate into a `homemade` strip. Of course if you are buying one, you can do as you wish if your insurance company is ok with it. Please make sure you have plenty of room to move when things get `hot and high`. Jabs are superb point to point aircraft providing you use `airfields` at each end. Flying can be more stressfull than fun when things are `challenging`so make sure you have fun. cheers, Q.
  3. I`ve flown around 120hours in my J230D since December 07 and have found the J230 is not a short field aircraft even when flown at the min speeds. (two reasons would be brakes and the fact the aircraft is quite slippery) The 230 also gets trickey on rough fields because the throttle tends to advance whilst you are trying to hold the nose off and brake at the same time (three hands would be nice) If you want to land and take off out of strips shorter than 400m then an aircraft such as a foxbat etc is far more suitable. Try marking your new strip length on an existing long one and do 20 landings on it remembering it only takes 1 overun to `crash`. good luck.
  4. I reckon I could see some runway lights on the departure end getting run over. Shows just how important W&B can be at the heavier end.
  5. Hi, I have just had a 100 hourly completed by my LAME, he picked up a problem that could be related to uneven fuel feeding between tanks. When he removed the wing root covers, he found the right rear fuel feed line kinked so tightly, it wasnt feeding any fuel at all. The fuel only fed from the front pickup. This would explain why the fuel aways fed from the left instead of more even feeding. We managed to get it straightened to the correct radius for the fuel to flow. It pays to have a thorough check over the plane as even the factory can miss things. Cheers, Q.
  6. You could try aircraft electrical services ph. 0881823000 hangar 58 parafield If its a factory built 230 you may need to change the altimeter to a tso unit. Jabiru gave me a refund on the chinese unit. cheers
  7. The aircraft looks as though it could be up and flying again in no time for a few thou. Testament to the Jabs strong build and quick local turnaround of parts. Maybe we could `pass the hat around` for him to get it fixed. I have learned a lot from him over the years and have always enjoyed his writing ways, its the least I could do.

    J230 Brakes

The strip was 500m with a xwind and as i found out later, with a slight down slope. I may try taking the spats off if there is little difference in speeds. I like to see all of the wheel in preflight.

    J230 Brakes

Hi, how do you `J` drivers go landing short field brake wise? I had the experience of having to go around on a short strip recently due to the brakes completely fading to nothing. Are there any better pads available that will take more punishment on the odd occasion? Cheers
  10. yes it is. I got the small dash with d10 dynon. 1 microair radio and txp. basic but very functional. also added landing light (more for front on recognition than landing) and strobe.
  11. Hi, I have flown 29 hours in the last 2 weeks since delivery of a J230D and have found this aircraft is sensational in all areas and is more than comparable to a 172 (apart from only 2 seats). Only problem I have is noise from transponder leaking into other electronics. I have traced this to the close proximity of the BNC connector on the txp antenna and intercom/VHF cables. A bit of separation fixes it. Apart from that, I am highly impressed.
