  1. Bob, howd you get a good look around lower bolts, especially the center bottom one?

    JJR ,

It's a bit crowded down there and best if you can lay on some sort of elevated platform to get a bit closer , which I didn't have , so a fair bit of squirming around . As indicated elsewhere on this thread , a good light source , magnifying glass etc. are needed .

  2. I have just finished an examination of my engine cylinder heads using magnifying glass , torch etc. The whole operation from start to finish took about 3 hours . Found nothing , as I expected , but certainly worth keeping a regular check on . The engine has done 350 hours ( trouble free ) but as indicated previously , runs very cool with CHT's around 210 F in cruise .

  3. I learned something important just before I got married. Begin as you intend to continue. Sounds simple enough but it takes some will power at times. So don't remember your anniversaries when you first get married, forget them right from the beginning, that way it comes as no surprise down the track, everyone knows what to expect.

Yeah that's right Steve .... Do it right from the start or you're rxxted . Other things include birthdays , forgetting to do the shopping is also a good one . I haven't been asked to shop for 49 years now . I've basically gotten away with murder, but as hard as it is , it's really for her benefit, sort of helps her self esteem . Mum always said " Bob sometimes you've gotta be cruel to be kind " . I've never forgotten that.

  4. Dare we ask what the second thing is? Hoping to shortcut my learning and maybe progress to three things before I reach 50 years of wedded bliss!

Who said anything about " wedded bliss " . Anyway, I'm not about to divulge something that took me 49 years to learn, so unless I have a change of heart you'll just have to do it cold turkey ...... unless of course you have something to trade !

  5. Even at 87Kg i can see merit in MTOW above 600Kg for a tourer, going to be interesting getting the co-pilot on the scales, she is a bit shy about things like that. It is just going to be in the rules, "no weigh, you stay!".

" My way or the Highway " doesn't work for me Steve . I just say " I think you have lost some weight lately dear " and that usually gets a fairly quick response to the bathroom scales ,quickly followed by me as the observer . By the way that's only one of two things I've learned during the past 50 years of married life !

  6. Bob, Bob, Bob........didn't your mother tell you to undo your shoe laces before you take them off 054_no_no_no.gif.950345b863e0f6a5a1b13784a465a8c4.gif

Having a quite day Bill ? Must admit it wasn't a really good look , but my wife does insist that I store them away neatly , which of course includes the laces being tied . Anyway , here's the other side showing a reasonable ground speed also, which I'm sure you will rightly agree is due to good flight planning . Bob

  7. Hi Bob, I know what your saying but I have this fear of missing the fuel **** on pre take off vitals! Just one less routine change and hole in the cheese.

Something like this will help to allay that fear . It reads ... " Fuel cxcks ( 3 off ) - OPEN "

  8. Had an issue last week with the mechanical fuel pump on my J230-D, had a fuel fume smell in the cockpit on the last flight, next morning I went to pull the cowls but as I approached the A/C I noticed the tarmac had been eaten away near the nose wheel. So I pulled the cowls and found the fuel pump was leaking between the diaphragms and that the retaining screws were loose.

Interestingly the screws have no form of locking! they have now ( LT 620) as I think an inflight fire would have been inevitable if I was on a longer flight the day before.

Engine and pump have done a total of 35.4 hours.

Anyway just sharing for info as its definitely something to check. (Defect report submitted)

Always pays to isolate the fuel to the engine when finished flying , although it did bring a serious defect to your attention .

  9. They (manufacturers & govt bodies) seem to be cracking down on modded 24 aircraft these days.Best bet I recon, would be to get a instument tech to do the job and get him to contact the manufacturer for prior approval.

Intended use as a private, owner maintained or school, hire and reward may affect the manufacturers decision.

Obviously they are worried about a bodgy job causing an incident/accident and damaging the "brand".

As a "24" owner myself, it's unfortunate readily available improvements and changes are difficult to implement by those people that DO know what they are doing..

    (edited before Dazza found out....)

    Instument ??

  10. Yup, I mean brand new engine from the factory. Not rebuilt/ zero timed. The 300 hours, is make sure she is reliable and running fine ( history). I wouldn't like a brand new engine with 5 hours on her. She needs to be ran in.

Why is everything " brand new " these days . When I was a lad everything was just "new" . Sorry dazz , it's just that things are a bit quite here at the moment .
