Yeh, you are right Ian, we had a night of rain on our outdoor Christmas party on the 21st of December and it did get a bit cool. How long were you in Beechworth? and where is Rodds Bay.
And yes Ben those were shots while bird dogging the fires for the bombers

These 2 were ones a mate took in Jan last year

Rain-No fires
Yep the rain sure was welcome. Here in Wang we got 69mm of gentle and steady rain.
Cannot remember the last time we had rain of this amount, the kids were crying as they didn't know what it was--nah not really, but it sounds good.
Was working on some fires near Corryong on Thursday-pics attached-reckon this rain would have put them out. There were grass trees rolling down the hill and causing fires to spring up below the ridges which were alight. these pics were on the other side where backburning was taking place.

Yep, Ben you are right about Dattuck, I think 2 farms and a railway line-was a great spot for motor bike riding and shooting.

Mark, Hi again. Airservices has a great link which is out of action at the moment but keep an eye on it. It's called flying around http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/pilotcentre/training/flyingaround/default.asp

Gidday Mark, I have some dope on the kilmore gap as follows off the melbourne -Adelaide VTC ( visual terminal chart ) Hills either side about 2600ft with the valley floor 1500ft. Kilmore is the VFR reporting for the recommended vfr route through to sugarloaf reservoir and then down to Moorabbin or Coldstream etc. Flown it many times but not in crappy weather.if the gap is at all dodgy you don't want to be flying anyway as the cloud usually banks up on the southern side, and can be usually clear on the good side (our side)
http://casa.gov.au/pilots/melb.htm Try this link for some info as well-I think the inland route gives you Kilmore

Well done JR, I have been keeping an eye on this problem and now feel happier about putting one in the Jab when it finally gets ordered

Thanks Pete, Went to a fly-in there years ago. It was a great night with Jock--I think- stoking the huge fire with a front end loader

Hi Quentas, You are making me jealous. What avionics are you running and is it your aircraft ?
-
Facthunter and Blueline, thanks heaps for your feedback. Great to get some actual costings and after talking to a few others these aircraft seem to beat hands down any of the standard GA aircraft (Cessna etc ).
And Blueline-why am I going down the VH road and not RAA--hmm-I am keen on the NVFR package for early starts and late arrivals in the J230D, but maybe I should seriously rethink my choices.

Hi All,
Getting closer to ordering a J230 and am trying to get all the costings in order for a syndicate. Was wondering what the average cost would be for 100 hrly for a VH registered 230 and who is a good Lame for Jabs in Vic or NSW.
We are also looking at some different scenarios for syndicate set ups--are there any links or sources for more info on setting them up etc.

Well done Wayne. Welcome to aviation- you have done it now and wont be able to get rid of the bug for the rest of your life-Enjoy it all and as Ian said the downs only last till it clicks again---does that all make sense or is it Friday arvo jibberish- it has been a big week

Milawa
THE spot has to be Milawa, 5 minutes from Wangaratta airfield. Get permission ( no probs ) then fly into Brown Brothers Winery. 200 mt walk from their strip to gourmet meals and great coffee and the pax can sample wine.

Wow Jan,
It has changed heaps. It looks great. Is the big tree still there on short final when landing on 28

Last time I flew over going to Bribie for a holiday with wife sister there seemed to be a few more hangars and a cross strip. Earlier the ultralight guys were great but they had a great laugh at me getting bogged. Brent, You are right, it is a quick trip to Cooly, but Hecks is certainly a nicer spot

Great , Thanks John. Been in there years ago in a C182 when it was only a single strip--and got bogged at the end of it turning around
Howzat!
