Agreed - without a drone you would need a million dollars worth of hardware and they give such a overview.
The is glamour camping in the hangar for any one it they ask in advance.

The flyin on the 14th of may was perfect for those on in the air and on the ground with most pilots reporting totally calm flying conditions in 8/8 of blue. On the ground the Kandos Search & Rescue team provided all the necessary barbecued primary food groups on Saturday and Sunday morning.
The dinner was at such a level that had some of us looking for the Sunday go to meeting gear. The catered meal and beverage were first class with Michael Smith providing a detailed presentation on his round the world odyssey with the word VFR redefined.
See you next year
For those who did not get there is a short vidieo.

Looking for one EFIS - Displays the primary flight instruments - Altimiter, Airspeed etc. Its for the rear coclpit of the Tucano.
This looks interesting
-
Dose any one use a EFIS application for their Ipad that they would recommend?
-
It may but I would not place a bet on that happening - current price for the sports Tucano replica is $48000 euro.
The Tucano LSA kit will be about 15 - 20% cheaper with a fixed gear.
The ready to fly Tucano LSA will be just sub $200K with freight and taxes readt to fly based on the US price of $US125000 - kit price to be detemined
-
Yes there is and it has achieved FAA approval.
Once a package of information is ready from the factory I will be seeking approval in Australia based on the FAA acceptance.
A weight increase would be nice to allow the full 650 kg for both versions/

Just read link quickly BUT
If you are selling kits then carrying brochures and advertising paraphernalia to a show - illegal?

Small Imports will not really slow - we make nothing and everything for an aircraft is imported from a washer upwards.
We run a distributorship ship and are highly competitive on price with our most popular item begin about 20% dearer than from a US discounter including GST and with the correct AU power supply - is amazing how many people want that saving and also seem to be able to find us when the hardware fails.
In a submission to the Productivity Comission we asked why the AU Banks current 3.0% transaction fee could not become 13% - No card - No transaction. In defense of the banks they have had to increase it to 3.5% to cover all their losses on the collection of their fee - very christian of them

This is the BEST 80% Spitfires ever designed. The Talley Ho Mk1 that make other's 80% just want-to-be's
The photo is a real spitfire overlay-ed onto the Talley-Ho - says it all
I personally consider this one of the best replica ever designed.

I saw a post for some looking for a GP4 project but cannot find the post - I may have a alternative at a good price and much safer.
No its not the Tucano.
You can contact me off line and I will provide a link

Why bother with a ELT that are not noted for reliability?
-
There a lot of excellent preforming planes in this class especially in Europe but a lot use exotic materials and process to get the weight down to a level where real people can use them for something else more that a local flyer. The change in category can be seen in cars, look at were the Toyota Corolla started from and look at it now but it has one item that did change - weight.
Replica's present a particular problem for designers - the external envelope is fixed and they are generally military so the original shape was determined by the need to survive while doing a nations dirty work. Aircraft like the Tucano are a lot stronger that they need to achieve a optimum weight.
This is a problem that I will deal with late next year - right now have bigger fish to fry.
-
Can come comment - Is there a serious attempt begin made to use 700 kg or is this just a thought bubble?
-
See the blog - I use kitlog as a time keeper only. Its a bit behind as I have had a pc issue
The Tucano will be 650 kg at 6g when registered - I would live in hope as this means two real people, luggage and fuel. All testing has been undertaken at the 650 kg weight
See: http://tucano-replica.blogspot.com.au/
the blog allows me to organize it in catagorys

"Anyone got any great solutions to the space/ hanger problems on strips"
The problem is existing airports around the major city's are flat and very valuable. Operation of a airport can never give the return on these assets realized value so that seals there fate as development sites.
Hangars are very expensive to build and has the gulf between what the perceived rent should be and what the spread sheet says it has to be and I for one would never put a $140K on rented land.

That what the specification for the Phantom was but the other guy did not play by the book - this time they mayl be right about the dogfight at least for our F35's sake.
-
For those of you would have not yet received the latest Sports Pilot please go straight to page 41 to read a informative article on the development history of the Tucano and Hurricane.
See you all at AUS Fly with the kit Tucano..!

Bore stroke / ratio about the same as a rotax 912 but is a UAV engine so I would guess that TBO might not be the issue and with dual superchargers a bit of over kill to operate at 10000 feet
-
Seeing we are all looking at engines this arrived in my email from Flygas - No prices / No other details but it will not be cheap - low run specialized engines are generally not
The weight looks good but its a UAV engine

That another advantage as they are regarded a explosion proof in a accident but in my opinion that they would be at worst a lot safer that a sealed wet wing that cracks open like a egg.
However the real intent is the speed of assembly, it should not take more that a weekend to fit the tanks completely
Fasteners - where to buy good quality these days?

One problem with Metric fasteners is they are all thread and this is a NO in airframe assembly, aircraft connections rely on shear not a tension connection as used in structural design and use of thread in a loaded connection is a BIG NO.
Unbrako bolts have a specification similar to AN hardware and do offer bolts with plain shang but limited and the excess thread and this has to be cut down. AN hardware is not that expensive and offers a large selection of bolts lengths offering a plain shank for the load bearing services.
