  1. Ive got several friends using oz runways and they love it so ive already subscribed. My son has flown with it and likes it a lot.

NAIPES i downloaded last night it seems useful in some aspects. Theres another one i think you must not be allowed to mention as my post asking about it was deleted on here, its a bit over a hundred bucks but im not prepared to be a dummy and buy that without hearing some people rave about it.

I can tell you this my mate who lost his gps was extremely happy with ozrunways as it turned a cancelled trip back into a fantastic holiday for he and the mrs. He runs the dual 150 or similar with its gps and said its deadly accurate.

I also downlaoded the awis one it was a few bucks and i has every awis phone number in it so i can quickly copy it into skype and call awis anywhere.

One that my son likes for practicing ATC radio listening is LiveATC , it has all the ATC radios in Aus and a lot of other countries. I was listening in on camden this morning. Its a bit of an eye opener as to the behaviour that goes on at other airports on the radios.... more fun and educational. of no use in the cockpit.

  2. I totally know its possible to look out the window im not that stupid. I asked what apps people are using that they like to do a certain job. Thats like telling someone who asks what bus to catch that they can actually walk to work. Of course they can, but thats not what they wanted to know.

    Thanks Garfly.

  3. Im looking for something that doesnt duplicate all my steam guages. Im going to run ozrunways anyhow but im also after a hud or efis type app that just has the artificial horizon (in case) and speed / heading / altitude. Primarily as a backup system for xcountry.

Having a friend jsut got back from a huge xcounrty and several of his avionics failed at once including gps, i would like to have a backup thats simply ipad driven.

If it has calculations on fuel flow etc thats a bonus. Cost if its under $120 or so is not an issue, i just want excellent functionality

    Thoughts and suggestions appreciated. Ta.

  4. Its such a good time to be buying, i feel sorry for the sellers. Most aircraft we have enquired about the sellers are literally desperate to get a buyer. I dont want to give specifics but one aircraft advertised for $180ish k we enquired about some details. We where then pursued with an offer of $120 k .....

Crazy times for annyone selling a non highly sort after model.

  5. One shouldn't feel afraid of putting a point of view up. It would be a shame if we were all of the same view. The more you find out , the more you find you have to find out. Nev

Absolutely, diversity of opinion is fantastic. Eventually the truth shines thru. My original post was simply a little frustration at some brilliant posts being shot down... Anyhow its an interesting topic for all by the seems of it.....

We just need to remember that - Nothing would be more boring and less informative then a bunch of people who agree and wont speak their mind..

For me accepting the value in others views even when you think they are wrong can be life changing...

  6. I did mine at first separated a bit, and when you do them closer together, for me its way easier to get the muscle memory happening. A few times i did two lessons in one day and it was awesome. Separated by a few hours to let the nerves and brain settle of course. My son who is going CPL does one a week and in school holidays he does more and finds it far easier to do them closer together.... My father is also learning and he finds it better to have a few days between, he is 67.

  7. Well what a difference 72 hours makes. Got back to Aus from NZ and spoke to some people in the know and also rang lots of people who have had experience with conversion or trying to convert. I cant say everything because it would be unfair to do so as some things we where told we where told in confidence.

But to cut a very long story short. We spoke with about 8 people who have done or tried to do conversions and the news is not as rosy as you might first think. Yes there are happy campers out there, but in short, they didnt get there quickly, cheaply or within the boundaries of what we are prepared to go thru.

So we have aborted the mission. Im shattered as a Jab powered by a 912is in my mind would be an amazing aircraft. But its in my opinion not achievable yet, within the time or money limits i can put into it. If i was rego 19 and doing it myself , i think i would still do it.

Anyhow live and learn, stumble or fall over get up and move on with a smile.

  8. Unless you cant get, or cant afford hanger space, or absolutely need to trailer it, think again. Think about trailer rash, trailer damage from road bumps, vibration etc , the pain in the but about setup and preflight checks and then x that by 2 to be real..... We looked into it and it seems perfect until you investigate it and find out the reality.

By all means if you need it then go for it, but please research it to death first.

Those tiny little bolts and those big wings are not really designed for Australian roads and they are more designed to fit more aircraft in sheds or hangers.

  9. In fact what questions should be asked of people in a poll

eg: What areas do you most need or want RRA to improve. Take into account its only 7 months since the meeting and it takes months for anyone to implement structural and policy change.

Poll Responses might include: (allow multiple selections)

    1. Two weeks for Processing Of Straight Forward Registrations

    2. Four weeks for Processing Of Straight Forward Registrations

    3. Two weeks is reasonable for processing of new licences and renewals

    4. Four weeks is reasonable for processing of new licences and renewals

    5. Four weeks is reasonable for processing of difficult registrations

    6. Six weeks is reasonable for processing of difficult registrations

    7. Eight weeks is reasonable for processing of difficult registrations

    8. One day is reasonable for responding to email enquiries

    9. Three days is reasonable for responding to email enquiries

    10. Five days is reasonable for responding to email enquiries

    etc etc

At least this way we give them targets and priorities to achieve.

whats your thoughts on this ??

What else would you include ??

  10. So a good idea might be to start a thread with a poll. The meeting took place 7 months ago. Virtually no organisation can make structural and policy change and have it implemented in less then 3- 6 months.

So ask people what is affecting them now that is done by RRA. Have a pole of the main services RRA is providing to members and then bring the pole and thread to the attention of the board...

At least this way people will be being proactive about taking a responsibility to help change happen, rather then just being critical.

  11. I fully appreciate forums are for people to express ALL opinions, and everyones opinion is valuable, but whats with all the continual RAA bashing. The poor people there are working thier buts off trying to fix ongoing problems that most of the current people inherited. And from what iv heard they are making good inroads.

Do you want to really be taken over by CASA. Because the best way to be taken over by CASA is to put continuous pressure and unfair critique on RAA. Appreciation and gratitude for effort go along way, and so to just keeep dumping on them will not in my opinion help the situation much. I have had reason to deal with RRA several times recently and have found them fantastic to deal with.

And i would bet you will find things a damn lot harder dealing with CASA

My point is, give them a break and see how they go after time to make some changes.

  12. The latest LSA study in the USA found most where runway accidents. Most of those where inappropriate speed. And most involved pilots who fly irregularly and who do not practice takeoffs and landings enough. Maint was not a significant factor, although im sure it would be if they went easy on it.
