Thanks Peter ... our laptop is currently experiencing the digital equivalent of severe ateriosclerosis so I may be forced to bite the bullet & "up"grade to Windows 8 on a new PC.

The ultimate has to be an add-on which turns the Windows 8 screen into something that appears to look like Windows 7. Where does it stop, I wonder...?

At the time we purchased our current laptop it was loaded with Vista, which was so much "on the nose" that we actually paid extra to have it changed for XP.

And now the Microsoft gurus seem to have done it all over again with Windows 8.

All this, of course, is grist for the mill from the Apple die-hards' viewpoint.:p

Thanks Dennis - I'm hoping our "Ford T" system will hang on long enough for the post-Windows 8 OS to be available... it seems that W. 8 and Vista are up there together in the popularity stakes...:rolleyes:

Depends on which Windows Operating System you're using: I'm still on Windows XP, which has been described by a less-than-kind friend as "the Ford T of Operating Systems".

It doesn't have the snipping tool feature.

That said, he had the decency to tell me how to achieve the same result as the snipping tool described above... so he's still a friend;)

If you too are still on XP, you can do the same thing by the following, and yes, it is more complicated!

*Press Alt+Print Screen by holding down the Alt key and then pressing the Print Screen key.

*Click Start, click Accessories, and then click Paint

*In the Paint window, click Edit, and then click Paste

*When the image appears in the Paint window, click File, and then click Save As

*In the Save As dialog box in the File name box, type a name for the screen shot, and then click Save

*Open with a photo editing program (I use Photo Editor...) and crop to suit, then Save.

Looks like you had a flight in the "light aircraft" we've referred to elsewhere? ...;)

Just viewed it on ABC TV24 prior to logging on here: ugly, very ugly... somehow one (ie moi...) normally associates stalls such as that with smaller aircraft, but - as is obvious - it can occur with any aircrft of any size. A very subduing piece of footage indeed. :(

I'll post in this discussion line as it's not worth starting a new one. That said, it may be of pleasure/interest to you Jabiru-ites out there.

I'm a non-pilot "enthusiast" (I like to watch, as the voyeur put it...) but have been lucky enough to have had flights in such things as Tiger Moths (with a barrel roll on one occasion!), Austers, Stearman DH Beaver and Chipmunk. Lots and lots of fun, as you might well imagine - and I really count myself fortunate to have had such treats.

Now Jabirus I have hitherto regarded as a sort of plastic streamlined tadpole modern "thing" of no great virtue. Somewhere I had picked up the belief that their rate of climb depended, like the fully laden B-24, on the curvature of the Earth.

Well how bleeding wrong was I !

A couple of weeks ago I got to fly in a 6 cylinder Jab: and simply could not believe it! Takeoff - vroom! Climb - zoom! Chuckability - whee!

As well as all this, the damn thing was smooth, sophisticated and civilised. Fan-bleeding tastic.

Looking behind, I see a cavernous space for the other two passengers/baggage: what a useful unit!

In short, I've been converted: while I just love the nostalgic vintage aircraft experience, it's obvious, like the canine dangly bits, that there has been a very great deal gained in the last 50 years or so.

As a post script, in the interests of exhaust valve temps the owner/builder runs his engine a little richer than normal - at a small increase in fuel burn - and at (?)hour intervals he changes out the exhaust valves; their price isn't prohibitive so for him it's a case of safety at a reasonable price.

Enthralling: when we do get to Sydney one of the prime drawcards for me is the Powerhouse Museum where one is able to stand beneath one (1) of the nozzles of an F-1.

Good info: we got to "do" the HARS collection a couple of years ago: fantastic, and the guides are absolutely super ambassadors for the establishment.

Thanks for the welcome! - the idea of a site without the negative vibe sounds great!Amazingly the 1600 Jabiru I was flying did not stop running while I was flying it (I must be one of the few!).

 

For a trainer having very little power has some big advantages - you really need to nail that best rate of climb speed to get any climb. Climb with just the right amount of right rudder or dont climb at all!

 

For the last few years I was CFI at a school using new 180hp Cessna 172s. These had so much performance that they would climb at any speed between 100 knots and 45 knots. Rudder was just used to stop the instructor complaining! I did have moments considering reducing throttle to about 2100RPM and telling them to make it climb!
