  1. In a recent thread someone commented on the weird looking designs that had been created over the years. In a book I was given recently, I came across this photo, and what I guess is an unusual location for a canard. It makes you wonder how they thought it could possibly fly, and even more incredible if it did. The book is "Aircraft Museums and Collections of the World Vol 4" by Bob Ogden

  2. Hi All,

I have been given permission to upload Mirage3c's photo collection. This will take some time, but I have 50+ uploaded so far (more being added all the time). They are very good quality considering they are scanned from colour prints. You can see them at the following link. There are no photos in the primary folder, they are all filed under the country where they were taken.

  3. Unfortunately, another fatal aircraft accident - they are happening all too frequently:

    Sunday, about 11:00 am.

    ABC News report:

A pilot has died in an aircraft crash at Pallamana near Murray Bridge in South Australia. It is believed he was an experienced flyer, aged in his 30s, and crashed his single seater plane into a farm paddock about 11am (local time). The crash will be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and police are preparing a report for the coroner.

  4. The scene is set - a dark night, cold wind blowing, campfire flickering, stars twinkling in the dark sky.

Three hang-glider pilots are sitting by the campfire, One from Australia, one from Seth Efrika and one from New Zulland. Each embroiled in the bravado for which they are famous. The night of tales begins...

Kiven the Kiwi says, 'I must be the meanest, toughest, heng glider there es. Why, jist the other day I linded in a field and scared a crocodeale, who came out of the swamp and ate sux min who were standen close by. I grebbed the crocodeale and wristled him to du ground and killed em with my beer hends..!'

Hansie from Seth Efrika (who typically can't stand to be bettered) said, 'Well you guys, I lended orfter a 200 mile flight in my heng glider on a tiny trail, and a Namibian snike slid out from under a rock and made a move on me. I grebbed de borsted with me bare hinds and beet it's head off ind then sucked the poison from it's body down in one gulp. End I'm still here today..!'

Brendan, the Rough & Tough Australian, remained silent, slowly poking the fire with his p*nis.

  5. It's amazing how far journalists and sub-editors will strecth the facts to get a good story.

On the Yahoo home page there was a headline stating "Pilot dies of heart attack in mid-flight".

When you read the story, a pilot travelling as a passenger, as emergency backup crew, on a Russia-bound flight over China died of a heart attack. He was not in charge of the flight or even in the cockpit. The headline infers that the captain or F/O were the unfortunate victim. Sad though it may be, the flight was never endangered.

  6. And another incident:

    From au.news.yahoo.com:

    Light plane crashes in SA

    ABC Updated January 14, 2012, 6:57 pm

The pilot of a homemade light aircraft has walked away from a crash near Whyalla in South Australia's mid-north.

It is believed engine problems brought down the plane at 2:00pm today, near Iron Knob Road.

It caught fire on impact, causing a small grass fire.

Fire crews say the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane, was shaken but unhurt.

  7. Hi Metalman,

Unfortunately I haven't flown anything for 25 years. Doubt I'd pass the physical for a GA ticket again, and although I drive a car, I don't think there are many RA aircraft that could carry an instructor and my 145kg frame off the ground (unless it only had a cup of fuel in it). And the age pension kinda puts flying out of my range. I will just fly my camera - at least it's paid for. As for the Eurofox, right place right time, I guess.

  8. Saw a program a couple of weeks ago called Flying Heavy Metal, in which Boeing 757 pilot and lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson, flew the test Airbus A320 to it's limits (with a test pilot beside him). First, he rolled it to a 60 degree bank and released the side stick, and the plane brought itself back to wings level. He said normally he would not take an aircraft the size of the A320 beyond 20 to 25 degrees of bank. Then he reduced the throttles and pulled back on the side stick to induce a stall. The flight management system increased the thrust and climbed out at a very high nose attitude. This is obviously not new to you heavy metal guys, but may be of interest to the RA types.

PS. Did some Googling and found that Bruce will have to rely on his singing - his employer, Astraeus Airlines , was placed in administration and ceased operations while Bruce was flying 250 holidaymakers from Jeddah International Airport in Saudi Arabia, to Manchester

  9. This sort of thing happens all the time. There was a story on A Current Affair last night about a fixed speed camera booking people doing 67 at an intersection with 70 km speed signs. VicRoads claim they don't know who put up the speed signs, as it is a 60 km zone. The signs were changed yesterday. Now there's a test case by those booked to get their fines refunded.

  10. As indicated in my signature statement, I upload photos to a web database, particularly as the TAA gallery is temporarily unavailable, although I was uploading there before I came across TAA. Airliners.net is almost impossible to get photos accepted on, so I use airport-data.com, which has the same photo requirements as TAA, ie., the photographer screens his own photos, and they appear on the datatbase as soon as uploaded. However, the photos are linked to an aircraft profile as shown in the attached screen image. No personal detail is included.
