  1. Yep, its great, I am thinking that anyone who doesn't throw sticks or abuse at me is in my veryown fan club.............Hey, this is my delusion, I can construct it however I want......roght Tonto?............Yes Keemo Sarbie. :grouphug: :crazy2: :crazy_pilot:
  2. Bugger I dont think I can get there. I am going to Vic to visit Dad (down from QLD) we might, might just get there. I met Paul at YLTV a couple of months ago when I was delivering an aircraft to a nearby property. We chatted for half an hour, he is a nice bloke, I'd like to see him in comps, I watched him do some practice.
  3. Gday AyeEss Good to see more participants, Do you have any residual interest in flying, have you considered a step UP to recreational aircraft?? I imagine it would be quite liberating to fly where and when you wanted after a career such as you describe.
  4. Hi Darren That was the first thing I checked. Mate pulled it down and reassembled it this morning. He didn't find anything and couldnt test fly/taxi because we have had 20 kn crosswinds all day. So........I went flying anyway. The guy that built the Plain English Weather Report web site from NZ turned up and wanted to go flying so we went up. YGTO-YMLT(into CTA and orbit the city)-Bridport(the Teapot cafe strip actually for lunch)-YGTO, 1.4 hrs in the mighty Jab. It was a good flight and I enjoyed his company. All landings excellent (I can use the a/c again). And its still blowing like an illegitimate child.
  5. Please explain!......I am actually not sure what play nice means, I guess I will barge on in and wait to be told. I am told that I have a Phd in sarcasm but I am afraid that I don't even know what sarcasm is other than saying something that is not true????:chairshot: Excellent, I could do with some loving............:fighting0055:
  6. I didn't know that this topic existed......Now I can really have some fun...anyone about that needs sorting out??????? :1poke:
  7. Chainy With all due respect, and to use YOUR words, shove it whereever you like! :pound::bolt: Qwerty
  8. On the head sets, Yes. Just get a good set. A god head set is a pleasure to use whereas if you go cheap, every single time you put them on you will have the thought that you "should have bought the good ones". I have DC 13.4s which are good, they will be getting an ANR upgrade sometime soon. I'd also recommend either of the top Lightspeeds, the Bose and I am like the specs for the Senheiser although I haven't tried a set yet. If you buy a set for $100 I'm betting you will upgrade within a year. Have fun with the 150. Cheers, Qwerty
  9. If I was a moderator, I would have issued you with three infringement fines and you would have a 6 week ban already, mostly for not finding a ride to Temora and partly for letting a silly thing like the monsoon from stopping you flying. :warning2:
  10. Hey Planey, Great to see you here. I spend most of my time laughing at myself. I have some way-out thoughts....I darent share them..I'd get locked up, I'm not very PC. That reminds me that I can prove conclusively that racism and predjudice in particular are a natural and normal part of the human condition and the EVERYONE is prejudiced whether they like it or not....AND that life would be impossible without being prejudiced. Its a great way to start a debate and find out who can think and who can't. Cheers, Qwerty
  11. Hey Retired, Nice to meet you, I could use your knowledge tomorrow. A mate has a small problem with his elevator, it seems to get stiff (stiff to pull) at more than about 40kn. He has had the elevator off to paint, so first step will be to recheck the installation but this is really strange. Any thoughts??
  12. Hey Windsor, I don't assume anything much. I am an engineer and scientist, I tend to rely on facts....so, no I made no assumptions about your air time, I did however guess that you would be interested in Temora....so get on an oil burner or find a lift. Someone from up there will be heading down and will be glad of the assistance with the fuel bill. You dad has got real class....6th and STILL gets laid, hats of to dad. Later, Qwerty PS start refering to them as plans not dreams.....the power of positive thinking!!
  13. If I can get there from Tas, You can make the effort from QLD. Its not that far. I once flew to Mackay from Tassie to get one of my mates to have a look at my radio that was playing up a bit. He was busy for a few days when I got there so I went to Port Douglas to kill time. Since I was at Port D, I took the opportunity to have a look at Cook Town. Temora, too easy, just get in and head south.
  14. Chainy, no worries about the Temora story. To start with my girlfriend has pulled the pin so it looks like I will be spending the weekend in a king sized spa room with one of my mates....I guess I should choose carefully hahaha. Windsor, Thanks for the support........Qwerty rides again. Reporting ops normal, Am I going to see you at Temora??
  15. Thanks fellas Trip report.....?? how about today I pulled out my Lightwing and took her for a spin. I love that aeroplane, it felt like an old pair of boots. there was a 15Kn crosswind gustig to 20 kn on the main strip so guess where I elected to land...you guessed it, on the main strip. I did three or four beautiful, smooth landings in the gusty crappy conditions, they should have been three pointers but it was canted over so far that the left main and the tail wheel touched down about 70-90 m before the main right. I just love doing that stuff. On the other hand I took the Jab out with a new guy that I just met today as Pax. Fortunately he was a pilot because my landing was hiddeous. At one point all I could see out the windscreen was blue and we were over at a silly angle. It all came together in the end but it was awfully messy there for a bit. I'll give it a go again tomorrow. A guy I met online is over from NZ, he called and asked for a fly so we are into it tomorrow. This guy built a weather forcast decoder, it turns the Met Buero gobbledygook into plain english, give it a go at http://ausmet.ibwrk.com/
  16. Hi guys, Here is the gist of a PM that I recieved on this site. I don't want to cause any strife here but I am concerned about my reputation preceeding me and I'd appreciate (please moderators) an oportunity to clear the air. "Hi Qwerty, I see you have been booted from the "other" site and thats creating a real stir... there are now 4 pages of people wanting Qwerty back.... "XXX" and "XXXX" have basically said your a bad apple.......... Anyway welcome to The Aussie Aviator !! Regards "MXXXXXX" Firstly, yes I'm the same Qwerty. I evidently earned a three day ban on another aviation web site without explanation. I have no idea why. I have no intention of offending anyone unless they really need to be offended. I am aware that my sense of humor is a bit off beat sometimes. I am aware that I am not the most socially aware individual on the planet but I think I am a decent bloke with a unique perspective to offer. If I screw up just tell me, I am virtually offend proof, I was once told that I have the hide of a rhinocerous over an ego that doesn't need it. I do have a major character flaw that I don't seem to be able to change. I am pretty intolerant of stupidity and don't confuse lack of knowledge for stupidity. Stupidity is saying things like speed kills when plainly it does not, eg. the astronaughts in the last space shuttle managed to travel at 17 km per second which is very fast and it didn't kill them. Does any of this make any sense to anyone? Cheers, Qwerty
  17. Of course, silly me. It shouldnt be too difficult to search court and tribunal proceedings and find it. Call to CASA? I suppose they wont want to add to the confusion either.
  18. I seem to recall it stated somewhere by RAAus officialdom that in order to fly an RAAus reg aircraft, you needed an RAAus cert. A call to RAAus will get a definative answer.
  19. I have not heard of this one but I am very interested in the answer. I'm betting its myth.
  20. Yep no worries, I have a three blade tractor prop....you just have to turn it around....
  21. Or having a tantrum when the forcast is for rain :character0029:
  22. It gets you in doesn't it? Here are a few things to lookout for. 1. looking up whenever you hear an engine running at constant revs. 2. Assessing paddocks for their potential as forced landing sites...WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR CAR 3. Yelling "clear prop" when you start you car 4. Noting rotation speed on the spedo in the car Anyone got any others???

    Jabiru engines

You are both entirely correct but the only real negative stated for the jab engine is increased wear, and this will only be a marginal increase. All the other comments while correct are not neccessarily bad for the engine. Higher stresses, so what. Higher temps and pressures, so what. The engine and its components are designed for this otherwise there would be a restriction on available power, smaller carby or what ever....or...there would (in the case of the Gypsy and the Rotax) a restriction on time at full power. It is my understanding the the restrictions on time at full power ar due to the cooling system. Rather than make the cooling system able to cope with continuous full power and therefore heavy, the designer opts for a lighter cooling system and uses the engine its self as a heat sink to allow for operation at full power for short durations. Having said all this I don't operate either of my engines (Jab and Rotax) at full power for extended periods but the point I am trying to make is that as long as there are no over heating problems there is no mechanical reason to "baby" the engine. Jabiru engines actually perform better under load with a few revs. It seems that the load and revs maintain a better operational environment for the rings. I am told that running your Jab at low power at low rpm (2400-2600) will result in the engine burning more oil.
  24. This one is a bit more so than most. It had limited control on all axeses to the point where even in mild turbulance or mild crosswing I was using full control deflections to try to maintain any sort of directional control. Once, I had a go round and what a surprise that was the torque roll require full forward and full right stick and full right rudder and it still peeled up and to the left. It does have a 6 cyl jab engine in it though. It gets off pretty smartly and now that I have doctored it it flies pretty smartly too. It is surprisingly agile. Having a tail wheel u/c on it keeps me awake too.
