  1. There's Stratus & Stratux. Stratux by cyoung (Stratux) = Raspberry Pi ADS-B IN. ADS-B In (Stratus) = Custom box ADS-B IN, GPS, AHRS and other things only available in USA such as inflight weather.
  2. On the laptop, you zoom with the scroll wheel, just like on Google Maps proper! :)
  3. Steve, 2% efficiency is all we need! We're not talking about browsing Facebook or making phone calls. We're talking about a 500 byte UDP packet every 5 seconds, not chatty bandwidth hungry TCP. Here's a good example: https://tx.ozrunways.com/tracks?flight=7229f85e-840c-4f56-a6c0-2c8b2ae974a0&type=kml (open in Google Earth) A flight from Home Valley Station in WA to Halls Creek by one of our staff. Not a highway in sight and no cell coverage on the ground, but a few packets as soon as we're airborne. Then a short gap, then almost continuous coverage all the way to Hall's Creek no higher than 5,000. He actively avoided another aircraft crossing his path within a mile or two and 500 feet. Then used it to coordinate with other scenic aircraft over the Bungle Bungles. Here's another good one: Bourke to Old Station at 9,000. A few minute long outages is all there is. https://tx.ozrunways.com/tracks?flight=787979c6-0a4a-4391-bdf6-fb7d7cee5d95&type=kml Near towns where aircraft actually converge, coverage is 100%. Telstra has no idea how good their network actually is from a few thousand feet up. Probably because they never actually tested it that way! :) The proof is in the data. We have that in 411,824 logged flights as of this moment. I suggest you go fly and try it our for yourself!
  4. Sorry I'm not quite following the OP here, but here's some facts: - Australia has more like 90% 3G/4G coverage in semi-rural and populated areas, especially over the J-curve up the east coast & inland VIC/NSW/QLD. - Stratux broadcasts as a WiFi hotspot. You connect your iPad to it in iPad Settings → Wifi, then in OzRunways put in 192.168.10.1 in the Settings → Traffic section. You will see ADS-B aircraft alongside OzRunways internal traffic. - OzRunways also uses its own traffic system over 3G/4G using tiny UDP packets optimised for transit over poor network conditions. See here for details: Creating OzRunways traffic - You can view all live flights running OzRunways here: Tracking | OzRunways Tx | RWY Tx - See & Avoid is still primary method of traffic avoidance for VFR aircraft. Use these features to assist safety, not as a replacement for a good lookout. We don't maintain a watch of these forums, so please contact us at help.ozrunways.com for any questions.
  5. Hey guys - Rowan from OzRunways here. I'll try to give some facts to help. Also see blog.ozrunways.com for a more detailed explanation of how the traffic works. - It doesn't log when you're driving or stationary. We have algorithms that determine when you are airborne and its in everybody's interest to *not* display people on the ground - Our privacy policy says we will not share your historical information with anybody except search & rescue agencies and accident investigators so we can all learn from accidents and help pinpoint missing persons. We will never give your information to anybody else without a valid court order, which we have never received. - You can hide your callsign with a setting in OzRunways → Settings → Traffic. You will appear as 'Unknown' to other users. - If you do choose to display your callsign, which I would recommend, it uses the one set in your aircraft profile (if you are in a plan). Otherwise it uses the one in Settings → Traffic. I don't actively monitor this forum so if you have any questions please hit us up at help.ozrunways.com Cheers, Rowan.
  6. Howdy -- sorry we don't browse these forums regularly by contact us at help.OzRunways.com for an instant response (we have phone support if required also - just ask and our support guy Dean will call you back). If you're having problems with the iPad, sometimes either killing the app from background helps (https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht5137) or press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. It's very rare, but for startup problems you can go into iPad Settings → OzRunways. Tick 'Clear user settings on next startup'. Also check you are running the latest version of OzRunways from the App Store (currently v5.0.4 at time of this post). Also check you are running the latest Apple iOS which improves compatibility (latest is iOS 8.4 in iPad Settings → General → Software Update). With the traffic, OzRunways displays ADSB traffic if you build your own ADS-B receiver based on the Raspberry Pi (we have instructions on how to build at adspi.OzRunways.com). The unique capability of OzRunways (not found in any other iPad EFB software) is any device with a 3G (internet) connection airborne with traffic enabled will broadcast its position and flight plan to surrounding aircraft. This is technically far superior than other EFB's as you will see other VFR traffic most of which don't have ADS-B out. OzRunways has over 12,000 pilots flying in Australia so you will see a majority of VFR *and* IFR aircraft through our traffic network. See tx.OzRunways.com for a live feed.
  7. Hi Russ -- once you have added a fuel source, you can add notes (see screenshot).
  8. Russ -- thanks, you can add multiple points (just add one for avgas, one for jet), then put in some comments for things like Visa / MasterCard support. Sorry I'm not sure which email we didn't answer, but we try to get over everything answered the same day and most straight away. Normally simple things we can answer immediately but more complex feature requests/specific problems are queued up until we have a block of time to answer & fix in detail. Skysurferau -- The algorithm for determining airborne is more complex than what I described but should pick up all flying (even very slow aircraft) and keep things on screen even during touch and go's, hover/ground effect and taxi off the runway, but turn it off after being on the ground too long so it doesn't activate on the drive home. peterg -- I don't think it's our site; we're just using the normal Google Maps view (and overlaying the traffic on top) so I would have thought it would be fine. I'm not having any issues here...
  9. Ah there's no edit/delete in-app yet, but email me the details and I'll remove/edit it from our server directly.
  10. Hey - Rowan from OzRunways, The live tracking won't send your position when below 200 ft and 50kts. This is a deliberate design feature as we don't want pilots seeing cars on their maps! Keenaviator: Once you've taken a look at restricted airspace, you can turn it off from the Small Cogs menu → Airspace. If anybody has any problems, hit us up at help.ozrunways.com
