  1. A of I Bracket

    Tony

In one of your earlier posts you mentioned that the re-engineered A of I bracket lowered the leading edge by some 38 mm out of a potential 56mm travel. Is there a Mk 2 bracket in process (or planned) which will go the full monty? If so, what projected availability? If not, how are you going on pricing /delivery of Mk 1?

  2. Dearth of amphib/float machines?

Perhaps another factor which may or may not have some effect on the lack of impetus with working off water is the requirement for a sea/floatplane driver to have a marine vessel operators licence?? I've been advised that, until the hull/floats actually depart the surface, the airplane is, in fact, a boat. And if you think Casa are sometimes confusing, try the Dept of Harbours & Marine.

A like-minded acquaintance and myself are mincing around the possibilities of a partnership/syndicating of his "almost-ready-to-fly", two place, Cat 19 kit build machine. Both of us are unschooled in (and slightly apprehensive about) what is involved in entering into such an agreement. Can any one advise if there is a standard format that is followed in such arrangements? If so, how can we access same? Failing that, would appreciate any and all advice/pointers on what we should address in our deliberations. At entry level there is absolutely no area of potential mistrust but we'd both like to have some preliminary idea of where the bends might be in the road. Standing by for some wise counselling.

  4. Hang in and it will eventuate.

I too had a span of 45 years between my last PPL lesson (1959) and my first AUF instruction flight (2004) and, like yourself' had many moments when it didn't look like it was ever going to happen. On reflection, I can now recall with amusement on a few occasions, the 21 year old instructor admonishing his 65 year old student with "I didn't teach you to do that!" He and I both persevered and ultimately I became legitimate. It was hard work but the resultant certificate was well worth busting my butt for. We look forward to seeing your name shortly in the 'Newbie PIC' announcement. Good luck.

  5. Greetings All

Just back from Browng's memorial service. As you may have expected, the aviation fraternity formed just a part of the chapel attendence as George was so very popular and well thought of in every other circle that he moved in. A family member asked that I pass on their appreciation to the Recreational Flying crowd for the floral tribute. So thanks to Ian for arranging same and thanks to all you folk who posted such sincere comment regarding George's larger-than-life participation in these forums. Our quiet little country flying club will be a lot quieter for a lot longer because of George & Jim's departure but they'll not be forgotten.

    Regards to all, Riley

    Greetings Tony

Great news and accolades to both yourself and Ian. I assume you have applied for patent rights to whatever methodology you've designed which permits you to add another 2 hours to your already 26-hour work day??

    Thanks old son

  7. Hey Bilby

In no way do I infer any shortcomings on your part but it's gotta be asked - you hold an L2 maint authority but you got 'charmed' into buying what you describe as being a death trap waiting to happen. I don't understand. How? Why? Again, no derision or disrespect is intended.

  8. Favourable Progress ??

Have been watching for a post on how the driver is faring. It's probably way too early to make any prognosis but hopefully no news is good news. While not given to religion, I'm sure we all pray for his recovery. Can anybody provide a factual update on his status?

  9. Posted this query on a different forum a few days back and got no response so figure maybe I was in the wrong space. Again, has anyone had any recent contact with or know if Conroy Aviation are still in business? Would like to talk with any owner/builder of a Sparrow XC regarding kit quality and factory response/backup. Perhaps their lack of response is the answer I don't want to hear? Any information would be appreciated.

  10. Hey Sabre.

You got your summer flying suit (or at least, the commitment) and now you're gonna pull on a 'bone dome' to keep you cooking?? Depending on how high your requirements are, I have a brand new hard hat (with intercom & radio capabilities) that accompanied my recent Hummelbird purchase. The kicker is, I'm about 40 mm longer in the butt than what the closed canopy will accept with the cranium protection on my skull, ergo: no use to me. I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it so if you don't come up with something reasonably priced from your post give me a holler in a month or so.

    Cheers

  11. Gentlemen

Can anyone specifically advise (or point me in the right direction towards getting definitive information) regarding painting a non-military aircraft in service colours? I have a cat 19 registered Hummelbird (tricyle gear) which is accidently an almostdirect 1/3 scale replica of thePilatus PC-9 trainer. I wish to present my "PC point 9" in RAAF "Roulettes" paint scheme complete with Air Force roundels however, many questions in many directions (starting off with the air force)as yet, haven't given me a clear answer. We see many VH rego'd ex-military machines(Tigers, Winjeel,Chippies, CT-4'setc) around the traps in full military colours but they are genuine, dues-paid, RSL members. Mine is a miniature military look-a-like only and as, such , maybe outside the permission zone.Anyone out there able to provide any enlightenment?

  12. Percy: Re the TST axle/carry thru bar parts etc

For your info, both 'Drano' (see his posts elsewhere on thiswebsite) and Randall of Crowley Aviation, Junee, NSW, ([email protected]) advised recently that they held stocks of both the 4130CrMo insert and 6061 T-6 alloy carry-thru rect tube material in correct lengths. But be warned..it ain't cheap!! Supply of new wire traces shouldn't cause you a problem but if so, get in touch as I havegood used ones surplus to my needs.

    Cheers Bob

  13. Can anyone of you learned and experienced chaps steer me in the right direction to sourcedetails/instructions on how to mount a set of floats to a tricycle-geared, single seat, hi-wing, tractor (Pioneer Flightstar)? I know it was done years ago with the Thruster T-85 by/via thefactory (now defunct)but I haven't been able to find anygood poopanywhere. Even Googling and the myriads of EAA internet info have been unsuccessful to date. Guidance gentlemen, I seek guidance.

  14. Gentlemen

I've heard/read snippets somewhere that the early Jab 1600 engines were fraught with problems (even had the unofficial word that Jabiru don't/won't rebuild them).Did the problems (crankshaft or whatever??) eventually get sorted by the factory or was it deemed more efficient toconcentrate onthe 2200? Basically what I'm asking is am I a dumb newby to be considering purchasing a mothballed zero-time-from-new, Jab 1600 and prop? Anyenlightenment and info would be greatly appreciated.
