Thanks, EFACTO, other Emegencies and Precautions in the Circuit was going to be part of my Lesson Syllabus on Friday, but as I cocked up a few too many of my circuits due to being a bit rusty, I now will have to wait til my next lesson to find out, touch wood! That last landing was particularly sweet but tell me, where the hell do you go in a EFATO in either direction? Not a lot of options I think.:cheezy grin:Strangely though, now that I think about it, I have noticed a pair of Goggles and Snorkel behind the Instructors seat, but only a pair of gum boots behind my seat

Hi All,
Back at Redcliffe for a lesson last Friday with Peter. It has been 5 weeks since my last flight, so the goal was to complete a couple of circuits to get back up to speed and then I was to learn about handling Emergencies and Precautions in the Circuit. But my first couple of circuits were terrible to say the least; I was a bit rusty and my rudder work was really crappy at times
So after a few stern words and the proverbial clip around the ear from Pete, I managed to get my head back in the game and started to pump out some decent circuits, unfortunately because of the time it took to clear off all the cobwebs, we ran out of time, I did have a win, my last landing was the best I've done so far, Pete was most impressed, so I finished the lesson on a small high
Friday was a bit like "Grand Central" at Redcliffe, aerodrome was extremely busy, with departures, arrivals, circuit touch n go's etc, at one point there was 7-8 aircraft in the circuit, we had to extend our download leg a couple of times to accommodate the extra traffic, even a Eagle decided to say hi, flew right across our windscreen as we were climbing on the upwind leg
Well I guess third time is lucky, I did remember to turn the camera on this time, sorry I did not mount the camera quite right, the angle is a bit off, now Spielberg I am not, this was my first attempt, camera was a eBay bargain buy, video quality is ordinary, the only sound is from the built in mic, so crank up your volume if you want to hear anything, enjoy
Rather than bore you all with my entire flight, I have offered a snippet of a couple of my circuits
Brent:oh yeah:
Next Flight - Monday the 12th of September
PS:
Next Sunday the missus and I are going to our very first air show, the "Brisbane Valley Air Show" at Watts Bridge, cant wait!

Good Luck TonyYesterday I completed my 6th Nav YBCM - YTWB - YNAN - YBCM with a diversion to YKCY on the last leg. All came together beautifully. I can confidently say I have the hang of it now. I'm taking the exam this afternoon, and fly my solo nav next week.Brent

Hi Tony,Ouch Brent! That may seriously affect your progression to RPC. You will be playing serious catch up every lesson with a month in between them. Well, that's how it was with me.TonyYes you may be right, to date the most time so far between lessons is at 6 weeks, thankfully after a a quick jaunt to YCAB, then couple of circuits my head was back in the game, yes its not the ideal situation I would like to be in, but after talking to Peter at Fly Now, based on my progress and where I am at presently, in Circuits Training, I am hoping the temporary hiatus does not effect my progress too much,
I have no problem with doing a bit of flight repetition to get back into it, besides eventually I will get to complete more time in the air to and no one ever said any extra practice is a bad thing as a Pilot, I am a little bit lucky in that I do have a sim at home to practice on, sure, its not as the good as the real thing, but will give me a minor flying fix between lessons for the interim, plus change this allows me to hit the books and do some swotting and get a few more exams out of the way
In the long term my wife does support my dream to learn to fly and eventually gain my RPC, and also helps me to fund this journey, so if some small sacrifice's are required on my end to keep her happy, then I am happy, however she has stated that she has no desire to fly with me once I am qualified, "ouch", hopefully she will changer her mind, if not I guess I will certainly enjoy that "Missus Free Zone"
My Home Sim
I can configure it to utilize a Yoke or Stick Setup, So as I am learning in the Tecnam P92 Eaglet presently, my sim is currently set up for that with a stick, the sim is still a work in progress, I have few more tech items I would like to add / buy for it down the track

Hi All,
Back at YRED for more Circuits, today it was a bit of a overcast one, the odd light shower about, today take off was via RWY 25, some more circuit practice with Peter. Again it was all about honing my skills, performed 6 take offs and landings, last circuit was my best according to Pete, bit fast on final approach coming into land, wind had changed and was now behind us giving us extra boot up the bum
Again, Must remember to turn the camera on, no video again, so much for following my new pre-flight checklist, lol. I had a win today anyway, not only another great flight but that I also sat and passed the Flight Radio Endorsement Exam as well. My Flight Lessons time in the air are now due to go on the decline, Missus also the minister of finance and I heading to NZ in November for a holiday and a catch up with my family
Initially she wanted me to give up all lessons for a short time to help pay for the impending trip, but after some skill-fill negotiations (really a lot of ranting, raving and crying from me and some groveling, lol), I can now still flap my wings at least once a month, not what I really wanted, but a win is a win, for me at least once a month I get to take off and fly around the "Missus Free Zone"
Cheers, Brent

Hi Jfob,Hi, just signed up and saying greetings to all. I'm from Cambridge NZ and have recently bought a Micro Avation Bantam with a Jabiru J2200 power plant. Love flying it - I have a Honda Blackbird 1100xx and I liken the Bantam to a motor bike in the sky (but the Bantam would be like a Honda FA 50 - it doesn't have the Blackbird power, thats for sure - but still really enjoy putting around in it!!!).Cheers, jfob.Welcome to Recreational Flying, it would be great to see some pickies of your Bantam, I used to live in Mount Muanganui a few (actually more than a few) years ago, just a hop, skip and jump from your place
Cheers, Brent

Hi All,
After 6 weeks of no flying due to weather cancellations, some unexpected bills and the missus spending all my flying money, not quite true, she spent some of it, lol. Back at YRED for more Circuits, after a catch up with Peter, my instructor, he informs me its getting near time to start completing a couple of exams before my first solo, the Pre-Solo Air Legislation and the Flight Radio Endorsement Exams, I promptly informed Peter I had just done a quick review test for the pre-solo a couple of days ago, but have not studied for the radio exam as yet, so he said, right you can do the pre-solo exam now and sends me off with my exam paperwork up to the training room to complete, in hindsight I should have kept my trap shut, lol, after completing the exam, I was feeling a little green, thinking I am sure I had muffed it.
Now sitting with Peter, we are reviewing my exam answers, got a couple wrong but Peter informs me that I have passed the Pre-Solo Air Legislation Exam, "Woohooooo" so with some colour back in me, off I went to do the pre-flight aircraft inspection on the Tecnam, today I am flying in the newer Tecnam, 24-7440, my first time in this bird, a while ago I brought a eBay Bargain bulk buy Dash Cam Camera and was anxious to try it out today, after asking permission from Peter, I mounted it in the plane and got on with all the aircraft inspection, once all the checks were completed, Peter and I were on our way, taxiing for a RWY 07 departure. As I had not been flying a while Peter decided that we would head over to YCAB first and complete a touch & go there and than back to YRED for some more Circuit Practice
Another beautiful day for flying, heading out to Cabo0lture first was the best idea yet, managed to shake off some cobwebs and get my mindset back into being a pilot again, first time landing at YCAB, my first grass land / take off, we headed back to Redcliffe for some circuits, YRED was quite busy today with Heli Training and the Aero Club Pilots completing some training as well, I have still a bit more work to do on my circuits, overall my take offs, crosswind and downwind legs are coming along well, just more practice and some finessing on the final approaches, my foot / rudder work is getting a little better and even managed to land on the center line a couple of times, after being out of it for so long I was happy with my effort today and Peter was as well. Now back to that new eBay bargain brought, I now need to include one more step into my Aircraft Pre Start Procedures
Must Remember to turn the Camera "ON" bugger me, no video today, Now off to do some swotting for my Flight Radio Endorsement.
Cheers, Brent

currently in Circuits Training, 01st lot of circuits were touch & go's, 02nd lot of circuits were flyovers, however my first few flyovers were a little too much of the aircraft, actually me ending up with touch and go's rather than a fly over, that soon changed with a bit of practice, plus the proverbial clip around the ears from my instructor helped me focus, lol

Hi R.J.W,Hey guys, got my first taste of circuits and real landing practice today. I'm feeling a bit down after this lesson. After being bumped around all lesson due turbulence and three crap landings, I'm starting to question whether its worth spending $200 every lesson for the experience. I guess every pilot during his training has moments like this and questions his decision to become a pilot. Also a Student Pilot, currently at 8.4 hours, I have started Circuit Training, with 2 circuit lessons thus far, 01st lesson: 6 completed, 2 go around, scared the crap out of me, but listened to my instructor, on number 05 he said nothing, it was all up to me, was it textbook? No but a slap on the shoulder, said "Full Power" and around we went again, felt 10 feet high until I had to do it again, number 06, I muffed it and came into low, but did manage to recover and put all 3 wheels on the tarmac and vacate the rwy safely
But as Peter, my instructor had stated, so far I have spent 1 hour on Effect of Controls, 1 hour on Straight & Level, 1 hour on Climb & Descend, 1 hour on Turns and 1 Hour on Stalls, so on that day I had to take all that training totaling 5 hours and jam it into a 3 and 1/2 minute flight, second Circuit Lesson was just as worse, I had not flown for a month and on that day for what ever reason I had a very heavy left foot and so my take offs & landings were just crap, again after a good telling off from Peter on getting my head in the game I came right and started to use that right rudder and regained some confidence again
I also was questioning my flying future after those 2 circuit lessons, I pay an average of $ 265 to $310 for an hour or plus, so to date I have chipped in nearly $2400, thankfully with the support of my wife, Deb. When discussing my flying future with her, she promptly stated, this is your dream, I am happy to support and we will will always find the money to pay for it, its your choice to quit or not, so stop putting so much pressure on yourself, if you dont enjoy it, walk away, if you do, hang in there, it will get better, and of course she is right again.....
So I look at it all little differently now, with a more clearer focus, I have stopped putting so much pressure on myself and try to remember to enjoy it as well, after all, I must be doing something right to get to where I am now, for me its a massive achievement to have the skills learned thus far to actually complete takeoffs, complete circuits and albeit with an instructor beside me, but after all I am the one at the controls, he or she is there to guide and mentor me in the right and safe way to achieve my dream, so hang in there, I am going to and after all, if's its more practice, more time in the air required to achieve your dream, that's never a bad thing after all

Thanks Tony,I believe the broadcast you would do, Brent, would be something like: "Redcliffe traffic, Tecnam 7600 radio check, Redcliffe"Someone in the vicinity should reply, "7600, reading you 5 (or otherwise if less than clear), Jabiru 4567."You should then report their signal back to them, "Jabiru 4567, reading you 5 as well, 7600." (Now you are talking with an individual pilot , not the traffic area, so you can address the callsign without the "Redcliffe Traffic")
Tony
that helps me out heaps, Knowing what to say when another pilot responds to my radio request
Cheers, Brent

Hi All
Currently in Circuit Training at YRED, my question is when requesting a Radio Check, what is the normal / recommended Radio Call reply to the pilot / aircraft that has responded to my request?
My Instructor did tell me, but for the life of me I have forgotten
Thanks, Brent

Hi All,
Back at YRED this morning, after a month of no flying, We had a mains water pipe burst at home a couple of weeks ago, resulting in no water to the house til fixed, whilst I was happy to rough it, Debbie wasn't, so paying the plumber to get running water and flushing toilets to the house again took priority over my flying fix, never thought I would lose out on a flight for a toilet, bugger me!
My wife, Debbie came along to the airport today, brought a camp chair and set herself up by the hangers where she could watch our take offs & landings, Peter set her up with a radio so she could listen to my radio calls, and know where we were in the circuit, it was a hoot having her there watching me fly , taking pictures. It was a busy circuit today, a few other aircraft and helicopters flying about, so she had plenty to watch
Another beautiful day for flying, a small crosswind, about 3 - 5 knots. After a quick revision from Peter on completing a circuit again, away we went, having not flown for a month certainly showed, for what ever reason I had a very heavy left foot on the rudder today, I think my seat was not in the right spot, it took me a couple of circuits to get dialed in again, then I started enjoying the lesson
Today I learned about "Strip Runs" from Peter, I would complete my circuit as per normal but when I was on final and just about to land, he would get me to apply power and I had to keep the aircraft off the ground and fly along the runway keeping the aircraft centered and off the tarmac til it was time to apply full power and climb out for another circuit, happy to admit, not a easy feat for me, took a few goes
I have still a ton of work to do on my circuits, overall my take offs, crosswind and downwind legs are coming along well, just more practice and some finessing, the Base to Final turn is my Achilles Heel at the moment, a lot more practice needed there so that when I have completed the turn I am lined up on the runway, currently I have been turning to late or to early
Cheers, Brent
Next Flight - Friday the 03rd of June
PS:
While flying today, Debbie managed to film a couple of my flights,

While I was flying today, I got to try out a new app on my iPhone,
"MyFlightbook"
it allows me to track my flight from Engine Start to Engine Shutdown, so today you can see the circuits I flew at Redcliffe Airport

Welcome Scooter,
I am a low hours Student Pilot and Recreational Flying has also been a great resource of information for me, I also dream of acquiring my own aircraft too,
However Reality and My Wife will more n likely prevent this from happening
