  1. yeah i have to admit I dont really like the word rogue. There there they have to be there instead of making excuses for unexperienced pilots or pilots that just plain stuff up. I think changing them by putting balls on them is not going to help becuase for a start they are not going to put balls on all of them there are far too many lines out there. I think this one should be left down to pilot error not "rogue power liines"
  2. this is why i wonder if the time should be put into shoewing pilots where the wires should be by identifying the poles. not so much marking the conductor itself.
  3. i will admit there is a few around qld ( the balls that is ) but i really dont think it is the answer myself. Plenty of spray plane pilots fly round em every day and they all admit they cant see em only thing they can do is look for the poles and estimate where they are. I wonder if more could be put into teaching pilots to identify where the wires would / should be not into putting balls up on millions of km or power lines. And so what would the plan be one ball per wire per span of power line or just one ball per span??? either way Thats a lot of balls just thinking of one power line near home there is 4 wires on each pole over a distance of 80km in rural area each pole is roughly 200m apart so who wants to do the math on how many balls are needed there. And if they put a ball on one span and not the next does that mean it is safe for pilots to fly there???
  4. got to say marking power lines will be a tough task there is an awfull lot of powerlines out there. And yes they are all very hard to see from aircraft. Even just to mark the ones near air fields will be a big task. I wonder if that really is the best option. Coming from a rural area where there are lot of power lines and aerial spray planes. ( And also working for a power company ) I know of 1 aircraft brought down by powerlines in last 10 years in my area that i can think of. I agree though any plane crash probably could have been avoided but i just wonder if casa is on the right track with this one.

  6. Hi guys, I'm a bit of a newb to ultralights. Only just started with em. I did a few hrs in a tomahawke when i was a kid but found out quickly that flying cost money and at the time i didnt have the money. But got a job that pays and found an instructor to teach me so i am back into it and loving it. Cheers Rage
