  1. Something to note that wasn't really mentioned here. Radar coverage is pretty much irrelavent as it extends past the boundaries of most airspace. What you need to be able to do is interprate VTC/VNC as to where the airspace boundaries lie. And it also looks like a few people here are getting confused between Class C and Class D. Class C is an aerodrome or airspace capable of radar separation. Class D is an aerodrome or airspace not capable of radar separation. ie procedural. Tamworth and Alice springs are both Class D aerodromes but they do also have above the Class D air space. The Class C is radar controlled for separation. The class D is procedural for separation.
  2. Its easy to explain!!!! the number of medicals is due to the fact that CASA manages the medicals for flight engineers and ATC not just Class 3 and not just class 1 and 2 for pilots.
  3. Actually it is a reportable incident if you land with less than your fixed reserve
  4. I'm in process of organising a trip to vegas leg! Can't wait
  5. There has been rumours of the aircraft since the war apparantly. I first heard about them whilst I was in the Air Force cadets out of Oakey about 15 yrs ago. Whether true or not it's a compelling story.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. Great to see a bit of passion. I have always considered them a niche aircraft and yes something that is probably going to have draw backs. That is the main reason I started this thread was to get ideas on them. Everyone has there own opinion. The long take off and landing roll and ground handling on grass may role them out for me unfortunately because of some of the places i want to go. For the relatively simple build however is something I may still consider. Just means I have to have a bigger hanger and more money to have more toys to suit the down low and dirty flying that can be so much fun. To EZ pilot or docjell what are they like with cross winds one of my biggest concerns is the rudder authority mainly whilst flying relatively slow on approach. The whole only one rudder operating ie left rudder for left pedal input has me a bit concerned, I know there are heaps of mods that you can make like the baggage pods which look sweet and different canopy setups which I am already dreaming of ideas about if I do go ahead and have a crack at it.
  7. I think the drifter factory setups remove tail as well cant quite remember it as a few months ago i was out there with work.
  8. I have been doing a bit of research and plans are now distriubuted by Terf inc. in cd form allegedly the only person authorised distributer. Yeah the quirks i am concerned with are the rudder setup possibly an easy fix but only having the rudder deflecting that is toward direction of turn, ie left rudder only deflects left when depressing left pedal. Concerned about rudder authority and there was a few mentions of spins in odd cg configurations. A few other quirks were really hard to slow down and aircraft just wanting to keep flying, i guess thats why the later versions added the under belly speed brake. And i would probably find something other than John Denver music to listen to. Cheers for response Maj.
  9. Drifter factory at dalby has a few set up for trailering. They are not currently operating but im sure they will offer some advice.
  10. Just wondering if there is anyone on here that knows if there are many long ez's in Aus? Or if anyone on here has one??? Preferably in qld. I'm wanting to go for a spin in one if it's possible. Wouldn't mind trying to find one or getting plans. Been doing a bit of research and it appears as tho they have a few quirks I want to but out before I go any further with trying to find one or get plans,
  11. The factory is still there, I was there not long ago. Plenty of spares out there. I believe they are not operating at the moment but if you call them i'm sure they will be willing to help. They seem like pretty good people. I wouldn't mind taking their 912 drifter for a spin that they have been working on.
  12. I want to disagree slightly about this AoA discussion. I agree that the elevator changes the AoA but my question is on what?? My thoughts: Elevator changes the AoA on the tailplane directly the resultant change in lift on the tail surface then pitches the aircraft which results in the change of AoA of the wing. So if we are talking about the AoA of the aircraft ( wing ) I would say no on a technicality because moving the elevator does not directly cause a change in AoA it is the pitching moment of the aircraft caused by the change in AoA on the tailplane. So in a way the elevator effects the pitch of an aircraft which changes the AoA. Looking in to it too much??
  13. I fully understand that but that's not my point. Why should I have access to the register to find out if someone else's aircraft is registered. To me that's an invasion of privacy.
  14. I'm a big fan of this site and most ppl that post on here. Some ppl really need to pull there heads in and get em out of the clouds. Time and time again on this site ppl go running off on ideas that are just abslolute crap!!!! This particular topic started as a report of an aircraft down turned into a debate whether that aircraft was registered then went on to bag the pilot for flying out of registration then went on to bag the RAA for not keeping a register which none of us need is up to date. There is only one person that needs to know if an aircraft is registered and that is the pilot and he can find all the information he needs when doing his daily walk around. If the owner chooses not to register his aircraft that is his call. The pilot is the one that makes the call whether to fly. The only issue that has come out of this incident is 3POB. Basically I am saying ppl need to get shit straight before ranting. Bagging out the RAA is gonna get u know where especially when its about a database that has nothing to do with them. Well thats my thoughts. If someone can give me a valid reason why we need the register in the first place I will gladly retract. And appoligies for language some things i believe warrant the use. Cheers, out
  15. Just a thought. Everyone here is saying the RAAregister is out of date. I'm no expert surely the RAA would not be out of date it's not that hard to keep track of. Is it just that the register we see is out of date. Next question, isn't it technically a privacy issue to have a register available. Why do we the public need to know whether xx-xxxx aircraft is registered and the next is not. If ur hireing or flying the card should be in a prminant position I believe there is regs for that for all aircraft.
  16. Qld police have just advised via Facebook that chopper has come down between Ayr and Homehill. Sounds like 2 ppl transferred to hospital no info on injuries accept possility that one is critical.
  17. No one has mentioned the Toompine Pub. Its a great little pub between Quilpie and Thargominda. Not sure about fuel availablity but rooms and plenty of beer is available, and usually a good back packer to look at ;). No official landing strip but i have seen the odd plane drop in and say hi in fact my boss got a good photo of a lightwing ( i think ) and an R44 parked up at the pub. 00
  18. Got to love a good Shag Pile. Good to know. Yeah gonna call em as soon as I work out if I can do the trip.
  19. Just wondering if anyone has flown into or frequents the strip at Murwillumbah NSW. Been asked to go see a friend near there and just chasing a bit more information about the strip. Yes I know that the Murwillumbah Aeroclub would be a good start but thought I would try here first as It will be a few weeks away before I go. Cheers, Rob

    11900 ft

Just a thought, Are we not allowed up to 10000ft yes essentially VFR I guess thats 9500ft??? Was I missinformed about this change in the rules, If so I appoligise. The point I am making here is yes he still went above a legal limit but only by 1900ft or so. It does sound alot worse when someone is percieved to be nearly 6000ft above a legal limit. Other comments stand true tho. Cheers, Rob
  22. Just be carefull with the term premium fuel out west. The fuel quality usually isnt that good and premium is up to 95RON. Don't go expecting 98. Ill be honest I havent been to dirran but from what i found the further west u go the worse the fuel is. Cheers, Rob
  23. Yeah your right it was a pusher I'm pretty sure it was a either a VW or subaru engine. It was bolted up to a E type rotax gear box. Its a fully adjustable prop and is up for sale. Offers welcome.
  24. Hi guys, Just wondering how many aircraft types a 72 inch Warp Drive prop would bolt on too. A mate of mine has one he wants to get rid of but not sure what aircraft he can fit it onto. Its practically zero time great condition. Only done ground run ups. Gyro it was on crashed after take off, no damage to prop. It is however about 15 yr old. If anyone knows what it could go on apart from a 15 yr old gyro :P. That would be great. Better still if anyone wants it let me know what you think its worth and I'll as the owner and see if he will accept. Cheers, Rob
  25. I heard about an aircraft that has been built around the drifter boom and tail section. It is pretty much an enclosed drifter with a slightly smaller wingspan and a bit shorter nose to tail. I think it was called a Borabee not 100 percent sure. Was told it fly's very similar to the drifter but with an 75-80kt cruise.
