GA Maj... not kicked me out, just doing contract work around the place.

  2. Hey y'all! I'll be working north of Clermont for a month or so in the next couple weeks... and my BFR is due in a couple of weeks!! So I had this bright idea of doing my bfr from Townsville, or somewhere near there so as to do a familiariseational flight with an instructor of the area and airspace. Kill two birds with the one stone so to speak.

    Any recommended places?

    Thanks! 001_smile.gif.2cb759f06c4678ed4757932a99c02fa0.gif

  3. Could have been better, but I have to admit, he was honest, which I would rather than someone who sounded the part but didn't know.

If you're flying into a controlled aerodrome and unfamiliar with procedures, you state so to the tower and they will often help you out. I've landed at some strips, mostly private, and have just stated I'm landing to the southwest...etc, or whatever.

Not saying it should be the way it needs to be, just saying he was pretty helpful to others in the area to alert them of the fact he's there.

  4. Keep it simple...

And we pretty much all do this when we are learning to Navigate, we think we need everything including the kitchen with us. 025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif

I use the CASA A5 knee pad with my flight plan on that, or just a piece of paper you can write flight numbers on, aircraft call signs, radio frequencies etc... Fuel management, i.e. left/right tank times. It's where you scribble things down, and that's the beauty about the backing board of a knee pad. I sometimes have another A4 clip board with maps on it if I'm going on a long trip just to keep them from getting lost, but normally I just have the map to my side or on the floor (depends on the aircraft of course) and if I need to, or want to clip it under the clip on the knee board you can do so.

    Tell you a story...

I used to have the habit of map reading every 10 seconds or less, in other words I was constantly trying to make sure I was on track and effectively 'over' navigating. It was pointed out to me one day when I was flying with a very experienced pilot, and instructor. He said something to the effect; "when you're driving on a road with a road map on your lap, do you keep looking at the map even when you're on a straight road and you know you have to go 20klm along it to the next turn off?" My answer... "of course not!"

6 min markers, or 10 mile - whatever floats your boat are there to save you from over loading yourself for no reason. If you're on heading, and you just went over your last landmark and put the time down the map, put the map down and look outside, enjoy yourself! Watch that heading, keep and eye on the clock and look outside.

Have fun, don't get lost and leave the kitchen sink at home. 003_cheezy_grin.gif.c5a94fc2937f61b556d8146a1bc97ef8.gif

  5. I could have assisted last week with more test hours, I was looking for something to do on the weekend whilst working in Alburqueque, one can only unload so many rounds in an M4 on full auto, a few 9mm's and a 45 before boredom sets in and I was wanting to find an excuse for a drive in the 2013 Mustang 5.0.... (by the way, traction control is incredible, don't try to drive one without it turned on)

You have way to good a job Matt, but then again you're a walking brain with serious ability so It doesn't surprise me!

  6. G'day Anthony, could you post a photo of your rudder assembly? I've got a Solitaire which is like a Sapphire but I do believe it's mounted differently. I would check as I can't quite remember however the plane is not with me at the moment. Just curious.

    Thanks.

  7. I drove quite a lot, too, and had a fair few long trips but just couldn't realistically do 50 hours in the year.

Interesting you say that, most people I know in the country have their 100hrs up in less than half a year. I got my 100hrs in 5 months.

    In other news ~

Throw away the computer games and pull out more go-carts, let kids be kids! All starts at home I reckon, attitude, responsibility, respect, and honesty.

  8. what the hell "Roster" means ?? Sounds like it might be a masculine title,. . .

    Like this :

a list or plan showing turns of duty or leave for individuals or groups in an organization: next week's duty roster.• a list of members of a team or organization, in particular of sports players available for team selection.verb [ with obj. ] chiefly Brit.place on or assign according to a duty roster: the locomotive is rostered for service on Sunday.ORIGIN early 18th cent. (originally denoting a list of duties and leave for military personnel): from Dutch rooster ‘list’, earlier ‘gridiron’, fromroosten ‘to roast’, with reference to its parallel lines.
