It'a while ago since I stayed there, but Horsham Gliding Club used to rent a bed for a nominal sum and this included kitchen access. Worth a call.

No, $895 with free postage was what I paid, admittedly back in April not long after the rebate was announced. The application only allowed whole dollar amounts so I had to round the price down!
-
Just checked my bank account - $447 paid in today. Proof that the 2 months wait is well worth the effort of submitting an application. The Skyecho 2 must be about the best bang-for-buck safety investment available. It will be interesting to see if near misses in the circuit are reduced once more recreational and GA aircraft take advantage of this offer.

Altronics used to have them listed in their catalogue, but I don't know if this info is still current.

Your reference no: ADSBRP000067
Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) Rebate Program - Successful application
Your Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) Rebate Program application was successful.
If you have not already provided your bank account details in your application, you will need to do so before we can pay your grant. You can download an Accounts Payable – Supplier Details form from the business.gov.au portal, complete it and return to us at the program email address below.
We will notify you when your grant payment is approved.
If you have any questions, you can email us at [email protected] and a member of the team will be in contact with you.
Received the above today - Note that while the application is successful, it doesn't mean that it has been approved for payment! (even though bank account details are required in the application??)

Bennyboy, you did exactly what I did - pdfs saved on iPad. I suspect that the system was overloaded on day 1, giving the timing out that I experienced.
Out of interest, what is the reference number ending of your application? Mine is 000067 which I assume means 66 before mine.
-
Thanks Bennyboy. Today I too completed my application at a public library. I am travelling at the moment and had assumed that having all required documentation on my iPad would work. NO! After a phone call and last night a long chat session with Lorraine, the chat person, she suggested the library. Even then a very IT competent assistant spent about 30 minutes trying to get my files to transfer to the PC before uploading.
Message:- the government appears to only work on MS. The screens needed come up quite differently on iOS, and the “Please wait” message doesn’t go away.

It was very timely seeing this video today. This afternoon I was about to push the BushCaddy into the hangar when a friend phoned me for advice. While on the phone our state rescue chopper (Huey derivative) passed overhead and then looped back to land at the Jet A1 pump about 25 metres away. Didn't think about this until I saw the wing start to lift, but thought really quickly then! I ran to catch the wingtip just within reach overhead and my feet briefly left the ground until I arrested the lift. By then the chopper had touched down and had the rotors feathered. This occurred from the rotor downwash only, possibly concentrated by the hangar doors behind me. What could have happened if I wasn't close?

Thanks RFguy, I will have a play with relative locations when next flying

As stated, both the GPS antenna and SE2 are above the panel on top of the glare shield, and immediately behind the windscreen. I can easily relocate the GPS antenna, bur where to? I don't think it is suitable for external mounting (it was supplied with a suction cup mount for attaching to the screen and suggestions that the top of the glareshield is a good spot), and anywhere else indoors would be shielded by the metal airframe
-
Might just be coincidence, but since commissioning the SE2 my old faithful GPS has gone haywire. Today it warned me twice that I was entering Adelaide control airspace - this while circuit bashing at Pt. Pirie. It has also shur itself down on several occasions.
I have twice brought the GPS home for testing and it works perfectly, both on internal batteries and 12 volt power as it is in the aircraft. My only thought is that the GPS antenna could be too close to the SE2, both on top of the panel. Any thoughts please?

Gooday Kiwi,
For the SE2 (an EC device) you need proof of purchase after the commencement date, proof that you own a currently registered Australian aircraft (RaAus included), an invoice (no installation cost permitted for an EC device) for your claim amount, bank account details for payment, and a signature confirming that you aren't telling porkies.
In theory, simple! In practice, we'll wait and see.

Thanks Mark
No problem - I bought it weeks ago. Remember me asking you about possible shielding of the antenna with an adaptor on the suction cup mount? I made one out of acrylic and the SE2 does all it claims to do. Just have to wait longer for a possible rebate.

Today (the opening date) I sat down to lodge my rebate application, having amassed all the required info ready to upload. Computer (or govt. department) says,"NO, not yet" The opening date for applications has been moved back to 12th August as of 3 days ago.
So much for getting in early before travel plans in August!

Thanks, Mark
A great Australian Made success story. We can manufacture top-class stuff in Australia, as used to be the case. We just need some forward thinking leaders at the top of government. Oh dear, I think I've just found the problem holding us back.

Your comments are (as always) very interesting, Mark. May I ask what is the product you are producing?

No matter what procedures, airspaces or surveillance equipment on board, pilots make mistakes. Some years ago an A320 RPT flew underneath me on a straight-in arrival when I was in the circuit area and about to descend to circuit height. I estimated 400 ft. separation; they reported 300. To their credit, they admitted to ATSB that their inbound calls were on the PAL frequency - at 0930 hrs.

Another freight example -
I ordered a $23 parking brake cable from India for my old Suzuki Sierra ute (actually an Indian-made Maruti under the badge). Free postage included, expected delivery about 4 weeks. It arrived here in country SA 7 days later.
Go figure!

but then a diesel does not have a throttle.
Only old-style mechanical injection diesels, and even then not always. For example, I still drive an RA Rodeo (2004) with a mechanically injected 3 litre diesel. It has a throttle with a throttle position sensor and also an air mass sensor, just like petrol injection. The mechanical injection pump has the rack controlled by an ECU and servomotor. Shortly after Isuzu went to common rail electronic injection so a completely different setup.

If all else fails, I have an assortment of used EA81 valves and can help. Postage could be an issue as I am in South Australia. If needed, email me with the measured diameter of the valve head. Also be aware that the metallurgy changed in 1986 with the introduction of unleaded petrol in Australia. These later valves (EA81's were sold in Brumby utes in Oz up to about 1994) are better quality.

I wonder what Ayres Rock charges these days? No mention in Avdata, and no landing fees listed in ERSA.
When I landed there in June 2014 the airport LandCruiser wagon with the flashing lights pulled up before I had even put feet on the ground. Out came the clipboard and all personal details taken, including credit card details. My passenger and I went in to the terminal for a comfort stop and a coffee and on returning had to 'phone the wagon driver so that he could come back and unlock the gate to the parking area. No un-escorted pilot access allowed!
We then flew the prescribed scenic route and landed again, fuelled up and went back to the terminal for lunch. Same routine again.
About 3 weeks after returning home the 2 landing fees appeared on my credit card statement - $40.00 each landing, and this was 7 years ago.
I'm not complaining, as the experience was one of those once-in-a-lifetime events and was well worth the expense for the satisfaction of being able to DIY the flight.

I should have also mentioned- the council annually leases the sizable croppable area (ex WW2 airfield) to a local farmer and also leases hangar space in the one remaining Bellman hangar, thus providing off-setting income towards operating costs.

My home base airport, Port Pirie SA, is owned and operated by the Port Pirie Regional Council. Their policy is NOT to charge landing fees and to welcome visiting aviators who are most likely to stay overnight when on an East-West trip or return.
The Port Pirie Flying Group operates the card swipe fuel facility (Avgas and Avtur) with prices pegged to Adelaide and also stocks the pilot's lounge with snacks, drinks, etc. with the proceeds going to local charities. One motel in town provides a free courtesy pickup and delivery service in to town (5Km away and with meals to die for), or local flyers will willingly offer a ride if present. The ARO and caretaker lives on site. Everyone concerned is happy!!! Avdata doesn't get a look-in.
Is there a better model for airport operators to follow? Please share our happiness! Port Pirie - the friendly city.

Polycarbonate blemishes

Novus 3-stage kit works well on both acrylic (perspex) and polycarbonate screens and canopies. Also does wonders for aging car headlights. Just add elbowgrease.
