Hey Danny I also fly out of Boonah and converted from GA to Ra-Aus with Dave so the following may sound familiar."I we have an engine failure PRIOR to the mid-field windsock I will close the throttle, lower the nose and land in the remaining runway"So I disappointed my instructor a little last flight by being totally unprepared for the lesson, which was learning the area for an area solo. One of the things I let us down with was the pre flight brief. I'd never really paid attention to him saying it, so eager was I to get in the air! So right now I'm having trouble thinking what I should be saying. I know the gist of it- if the engine fails after take off before the middle windsock then I will land straight ahead, but what else? below a certain height I will land in the fields and I will not attempt to turn around. I can't remember right now what that height would be! 1000ft agl?How do you guys articulate the brief?"If we have an engine failure AFTER the midfield windsock and are below 800ft AGL I will NOT attempt a turn back to the airfield and will lower the nose and land in a suitable paddock 30 degrees either side of the runway heading"
Run it passed Dave to confirm but its what i use and he didnt yell at me lol. cheers Marty

Wow you guys really amaze me, I thought most here were of above average intelligence but you have let me down here, Its quite obviously that the OP is marketing a PC keyboard for secret agents ie Invisible keystrokes, the comma only shows so the recipient knows to look for the message . Gee guys lift ya game LOL

You wont go wrong with Dave & Airsport Qld, Dave really knows his stuff, Just about to finish my GA to Ra-Aus conversion and cant recommend them enough.Well, I took a while to get myself sorted. We made our way to Boonah and got talking to some folk who pointed out that whatever I want to fly, I might as well do the RA-Aus conversion in one o them fancy ultralights. Did a flight with with Dave in his TECNAM P96. What a lovely plane, feels similar (what with my failing memory :D ) to the Piper Warrior. Will be doing another flight this weekend. You are right, Dave is a great instructor :)And yes, great place fly. Since I am mostly in it for fun, might as well have some nice scenery! And the guys there seemed friendly too.- 1

Welcome aboard John☺

Gets hot real quick in summer around Boonah. Always taxi with the canopy open in the Tecnam Golf, only closed as part of pre takeoff checks and very soon on rollout after landing, cant say I have noticed the heat in flight but it gets hot real quick on the ground.

Sure ia an awesome place to live if Aviation is your thing, Get regular sightings of F18s & C117s overflying Boonah/ Kalbar heading to Amberly, Not to mention the outstanding scenery to fly around. Cheersg'day Youse Mob,Just saw two B1-B bombers fly over our house on their way to Amberley - amazing sight !!!!!Apparently there will be a few F22s around as well as the Bones over the next couple of weeks.
Man I love where I live !!!!!

Damn, Broken wing no good for flying m8, hope it mends well and soon for youAnd I think 2 months is a "long hiatus". Bad weather rolled in after my last flight, then the sun came out about 3 weeks ago and I was planning to take to the air on my next day off... then I broke my arm at work! Grounded until further notice- 1

Well 3 circuits with a Instructor then for the first time since March 4th 1988 sent soaring into the skys around Boonah for 3 circuits all on my lonesome, Maybe not the same nervous excitement as the first solo back in Oct 1985 but it was awesome to be back in total control. Little bit more to do then the GA to Ra-Aus conversion will be complete. Cheers
